Story
Hi my name is Serenity. I am looking for my happily furever after.  I was rescued and then abandoned at a boarding facility with 40 other dogs.  This rescue stepped in to help me and 12 of my friends and now we have a second chance. I have friends where I live and would love a home with a doggie friend. I am not fond of cats. I am eager to please and follow commands and love learning new tasks.   My caregivers take me on long walks as I am quite adventurous. The word "favorite" is used alot to describe me. It might be because I give the best kisses. I am very affectionate and love getting rubs and praise.  I am looking forward to meeting my furever people. ##2042780##

DESCRIPTION:  Apollo's owner loved him greatly but struggled to keep him safe and in the household. As a result, Apollo spent too much time wandering about the neighborhood and checking in with the neighbors.  Unfortunately, this resulted in too many trips to animal control. Due to his frequent visits, Animal Control decided that Apollo would be safer if he moved forward with a new family.  Apollo is a big, sweet guy. Although it is clear that he has not had a lot of structure prior to his arrival, he is a quick learner and seems to prefer a calm yet confident handler. Apollo has lived with a couple of cats and has done well with them. He seems unaffected by their presence and is calm with them around. Having met a variety of dogs in his travels, Apollo has made it clear that he can live peacefully with another dog. However, he is not a big fan of high-energy dogs who get in his face. We can't blame him for setting his boundaries. Apollo is looking for a forever home that will provide him with the guidance and routine that will help him thrive. He will benefit greatly from training with his new family. This will not only help him bond to his new family but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. If your household is looking for a big, laid back guy, ask to meet Apollo today! October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Beautiful Bailey was adored by her family. They knew she was a special girl and ensured that she had endless love, attention, and plenty of toys. However, when an unexpected event took place, they were unable to keep Bailey and provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that we would provide Bailey with everything she needed to meet with success, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to the MAGSR. Knowing this was a very difficult decision, we promised we would find Bailey the perfect forever family.  Bailey is an active, intelligent, and playful girl. She loves her people fiercely and gives them every ounce of affection she has. With some very strong GSD traits, Bailey is loyal, protective, and on point. She tends to notice everything around her and keeps an eye on her people at all times.  As a girl with a high prey drive, smaller creatures can be a little too enticing for Bailey. She finds joy in chasing small creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, and will need to be monitored closely if they are out and about with her. Fond of the outdoors, Bailey is always up for a long walk, hike, or adventure. She takes cues well from the handler and knows many commands. Lucky to have lived in a loving household for a few years, Bailey has developed a solid understanding of and appreciation for toys; she is hoping her forever family enjoys them too! She loves to play ball and can't help but enjoy a good squeaky toy. With a few years of experience living in a home, Bailey has also developed an affinity for a soft bed. She loves cuddling up on her dog bed and doesn't mind having a dog bed or two in the house just to change up viewpoints throughout the day. Although Bailey is crate trained and housebroken, once settled, she prefers to be out and about. This seems to keep her more settled throughout the day. As is true of all shepherds Bailey will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Providing clear boundaries and expectations will help Bailey meet with success. Bailey has already completed some basic training; however, she is always up for more! Continued training is essential to Bailey's success. Not only will it help her develop her canine citizenship skills, but it will also help her develop a strong and healthy bond with her forever family.  October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION: The Fall puppies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato (Tator) - were an accidental litter. Raised together with their parents, these dogs have had the chance to learn many doggy social skills. Although their human family enjoyed the puppies, it can be difficult to care for a large litter and challenging to find safe and loving homes. Recognizing that the Fall puppies would be most successful if placed within a breed specific rescue, their family contacted MAGSR. We promised that we would find each pup a safe and loving forever family that would cherish these babies for a lifetime.  The Fall puppies are very large babies for their age. They are clearly big fans of food. Having spent time outside, these babies love the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors. So, they are hoping their forever families love adventures. Although these babies have been socialized well with their doggy family, they have not been exposed to many new people or situations. Socialization is critical to their success. Recognizing that social skills are essential as the Fall puppies move forward, our amazing volunteers are already beginning this process. Learning the ins and outs of living in a household, these babies are learning the joys of endless toys, comfortable beds, and loads of love. As they continue to move forward, all six babies will strive in households that will provide the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds crave.  Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless antics. With time, training, and patience, all 6 babies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato - will develop into good canine citizens. If one of the Fall puppies sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet these fluffy bundles of joy today! October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION: Jovial Jason was picked up as a stray in the south. When he arrived at a shelter, it was discovered that he had a large, open wound on his back leg. As this shelter, like so many others, was sitting above capacity, once Jason's stray hold was completed, he was placed on the list to be euthanized. This handsome guy was incredibly lucky as he was pulled at the last minute by another rescue. Although they knew that Jason would need to be transferred to another rescue, this group knew that Jason deserved every opportunity to move forward safely.  Jason was fortunate to have been in a foster home for a few months before moving into the MAGSR family. During this time he was able to begin receiving the medical support needed to start the healing process. With debris cleaned out of his leg, medication provided, and six weeks of rehab in place, Jason's leg healed nicely allowing him to return to regular activities and playtime. Having endless opportunities to socialize with other large dogs, Jason greatly enjoys play time. He has an active and enthusiastic play style. However, we have learned that he gets a little too excited about cats and farm animals. He will not be placed in a home with these creatures. Having lived in a home, Jason has begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a household. He is housebroken and crate trained. As is true of all dogs, Jason will need time to adjust to the expectations, structure, and routines of his forever family. With time, patience, and leadership, we know he will succeed. As Jason moves forward, training will be key to his success. Training will not only help Jason create a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.  Unfortunately, we have learned that Jason is heartworm positive. This prognosis could have been prevented if Jason has been provided with monthly preventatives. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR knows that Jason is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Jason's treatment. Not only will your donation help Jason get the care he needs, but it will also help us welcome other dogs with medical needs. Jason's treatment has already begun and he is more than half-way finished! He will need to take it easy over the next month or so as he finishes up. Jason is an amazing guy that is hoping to find a family that will love him for a lifetime. Could that be with you? October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm

DESCRIPTION: Incredible Izzy was picked up as a stray in the south. Although she was lucky to be picked up and brought to a shelter, unfortunately, with overwhelming numbers of homeless animals everywhere, her life remained in danger. Although shelter staff did everything they could to find her family, when no one stepped forward after her stray hold, Izzy found herself in a scary situation. Recognizing that Izzy, like so many others, deserved a chance to move forward safely, a plea for rescue placement was sent out to the GSD community. When asked if we could welcome Izzy to the MAGSR family, our team knew we were the right people to move this lovely girl forward.  Incredible Izzy is a bright, friendly, and energetic girl. She is looking for a family that will include her on their adventures keeping her body and her mind well exercised. Clearly well socialized prior to her arrival, Izzy loves her people and has done well with large furry friends. Although Izzy has begun developing a solid foundation, it is critical that her forever family continues to socialize her with new people, other animals, and in new environments. This will help Izzy continue to develop into a stable and confident adult. We do not know much about Izzy's past, but we do know that she has a bright future. As Izzy may not have much experience in a loving household, she will benefit from time and patience in her new home. With structure, routine, and leadership, Izzy will thrive. An intelligent girl, Izzy will be the star pupil at training. Not only will training help Izzy create a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.  Unfortunately, we have learned that Izzy is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have easily been avoided had she been provided a monthly preventative. Heartworm treatment is expensive; however, Izzy is clearly more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Izzy's care. Your donation will not only help Izzy continue to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support dogs with medical needs. Izzy will need to take it easy over the next few months as she undergoes heartworm treatment. She is hoping to take it easy while settling in with her forever family. If Izzy sounds like the right match for your family, ask to meet this incredible girl today! October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm

DESCRIPTION: Mable was picked up as a stray in the south. When she arrived at the shelter, it was highly evident that this girl needed help. Extremely emaciated, still lactating from a recent litter, heartworm positive, and suffering from dislocated hip and a fractured pelvis, shelter staff knew this girl was in rough shape. Although she was unable to walk, Mabel was still all tail wags and love as she attempted to interact with shelter staff, particularly when they brought high-value treats to say hi. Recognizing that they did not have the resources to help Mabel, the shelter added her to their list to be euthanized as a way to end her suffering rather than leave her in pain and without proper care. Fortunately, a foster for another rescue in the area stepped up for Mabel at the last second and she was pulled just in time.  Living in the safety of a loving and experienced foster home, Mabel started the long path toward recovery. Strengthening her system for the road ahead, Mabel began gaining some much needed weight. With good nutrition and the chance to begin healing, Mabel made the progress needed to start addressing her health concerns. A few weeks ago, Mabel underwent surgery for her hip and pelvis. She was a champ throughout the entire process and is recovering nicely. As the healing process is moving along as expected and Mabel is feeling much more like a healthy dog again, her foster mom knew it was time to find a breed specific rescue for Mabel so that she could move forward with . Knowing we could help Mabel complete the rest of her medical journey as well as find her an amazing forever home. Mabel is still healing from a FHO but is mobile and doing well. She needs restricted walks and should not be bouncing around for a few more weeks. As Mabel is heartworm positive, she will be on restricted exercise moving forward. Due to the condition in which she arrived in foster care, Mabel needed to gain strength and weight before heartworm treatment could begin. As these milestones have been met, Mabel can begin this next process. Mabel is good with other dogs and people. She is unknown for kids and cats.  October 28, 2024, 7:35 pm
