Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Erebos is an alumni of Safe Haven, but not currently up for adoption at our shelter - instead he is listed as a Courtesy Listing for his owners, and their contact info is down below for anyone potentially interested in him.Erebos was adopted in November of 2020 by his current owner Chris - but he has now found himself looking for a new home that hopefully fits him a bit better......Erebos is dearly loved in his current home, but he is struggling to settle into his new life - you see in March of 2024 Chris moved in with his partner Kiley, and she has 2 small dogs, Bernie and Luna. Erebos and the other 2 dogs have just not been able to become a cohesive unit living all together. Therefore after spending a lot of time, effort and money with training and medical intervention over the past year, they have decided with completely broken hearts that they need to look for a new home for Erebos. Chris adopted Erebos as a 'Lab mix', but did do a DNA test where they found out that he is 45% German Shepherd, 25% Golden Retriever, and then a mix of several other herding dogs. Over the past few years Erebos has completed a Board and Train program where he was found to be very trainable and had settled into his new home well .......until moving in with his two new canine siblings last year. Chris and Kiley want everyone to know that Erebos participates in 'pack walks,' doggy day care, and boarding with other dogs his size and does very well. He is mostly aloof around other dogs, and definitely prefers humans to any animals. While trying to integrate Erebos into his new pack, all three dogs had a difficult time learning not to resource guard, and to listen to Luna who apparently had established herself as the boss - and his family has come to a point where they have to admit it's not working........none of the dogs are happy and the humans are stressed. Erebos is approximately 6 years old, weighs 90lbs, and is devastatingly handsome! He has the bark and the prey drive of a Shepherd, but the goofiness and playfulness of a Golden. He LOVES to snuggle up next to humans on the couch or in bed. Erebos has had to go on medications (prozac and trazodone) to try and help him tolerate his new life, but hopefully in a different situation, he may not need those. Erebos' family thinks he needs a 'new Chris' - a single person or couple with older kids and may be happiest with no other animals. He needs someone young enough that they won't be accidentally hurt by his size, but old enough to know how to work with a big working dog. He is a wonderful companion for someone where he can be the only dog, or with other big dogs where he can fold into the pack. They feel he would do best in a home without any cats. He will come equipped with a large size Kong crate (which he loves), an orthopedic bed, lots of leashes, a bag of food, up to date on all vaccinations and a clean bill of health.
