Story
It`s a-me, Mario! Mario is a quirky 9 year old goofball that is sure to steal your heart (instead of coins). This sweet boy sadly came to our shelter as a stray in March 2019. At his intake exam, we discovered that he was heartworm positive and would require treatment. Mario has been undergoing the `slow kill` method of treatment while learning a lot in our FIDO prison program. He hopes to be heartworm free very soon. Mario is a sweet boy who can be a little shy when meeting new people. He would prefer a calm, quiet home without small children. He gets along well with cats and can be picky about his canine friends (will require a meet and greet). Mario loves to run and play, so a fenced yard is required in order to adopt him.Mario is a member of our FIDO prison program. FIDO dogs are obedience trained and socialized by the prison inmates. The $250 adoption fee covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, de-worming, microchip, and heart worm test (and current with monthly preventative). They are house trained, crate trained, and know their 5 basic commands. If interested in meeting a FIDO dog, please fill out an application online at: inapl.org/adoption-application. Once it`s processed, a member of our team will be contact with you.MarioShepherd mixMaleDOB: 3/29/2014Weight: 45 lbs.Heartworm Positive

* High energy boy that likes to talk about his day* Would love to find an active owner that keeps him busy* Toys are his favorite, will chase and then bring back for another toss* Already knows a couple commands- sit and shake* Smart cookie that is eager to learn more if you`ll teach him* Friendly and social meeting new people- does jump up when excited* Seems to be a bit unsocialized meeting other dogs* Pulls toward them, is very vocal, and unsure about what to do* Greeted some dogs appropriately and wanted to play- but then changed his mind and was defensive at second meeting with the same dog* Would likely prefer to be the only dog in the home* If he were to have siblings, it would take an experienced owner with a very slow introduction* Curious of cats and tolerated swats from them* Does have separation anxiety and will require a heavy duty `jail cell` type crate in his new home* Would prefer a home with older childrenPhoenixShepherd mixMaleDOB: 12/19/2022Weight: 65 lbs.Heartworm NegativePhoenix`s adoption fee is $150 and includes his neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and a free wellness exam.
