Story
Meet Ava, one of the sweetest family pets you will ever meet. She is almost 6, her birthday is January 8th, 2019. We bought her from a breeder in Roanoke, Va. Her Mom was a black and tan German Shepherd rescue, and her dad was a purebred red and silver. Our family is going through a lot right now and we have not had the time for Ava that she needs. We are moving into a rental and cannot take her with us. Life does not always work the way we want it to. Ava is very sweet natured and calm, she likes to go outside and chase squirrels out of the yard and roam. She definitely could use more space then we have currently. She is used to an invisible fence but currently we do not use it and she stays close to our house. She is very protective of her people, I have young children and she treats them like her own. She is not professionally trained but is very quick to learn, she is incredibly smart. We are looking for a new family for her to love and protect and be loved by.

Story
Wren is just a fun loving girl. She’s estimated to be 1 year old and weighs 69 pounds. Wren came in as a stray when a caller called in and reported that a dog was staying on their porch for two days and would not leave the residence. Wren loves to play with other dogs and is the first to do the cutest play bows. She has been a good solid dog and used as a dog tester here. She met Lobster the office cat, and acted like she has never seen a cat before and later went on do attempt to play with him as well. Her favorite toys are tennis balls. She has a medium energy level, and is doing well with potty training. Wren acts like she is very much puppy still, and we are amazed that no one came in to reclaim her. Wren loves milk bones and nyla bones. She is a big fan of giving face kisses and nudging you for attention.

Story
Hi! I’m Duke! I’m a 1 year old 7 month old boy and 73 pounds. My owner opened his fence and just let me go. They said they didn’t have any where to take me. The shelter said their surrender fees here are only $20, and they much rather waive a fee than find us as strays, and have to learn everything about us! The only reason the shelter found out so much about me is because I was microchipped. I was scared to be out there on my own but thankfully a kind lady found me and brought me in to the shelter. I came in with my sister Bella but she was already adopted! I would love to go to a home with children and someone with shepherd experience. I’m a very loving boy. You do need to feed me separately from other animals. I care a lot about my kibble. I prefer to eat in my crate where I can be alone. I am crate trained and potty trained in a home environment. I cannot be placed with cats because I do have a prey drive towards them and I was never raised with a cat. I would love to find a home soon, because I’m such a sweet and loving boy! We get a lot of shepherd lovers adopt from the shelter, is there one more for me?

Story
This is Chester, 3-year old purebred German Shepherd male. He is neutered and up to date with all shots. Highly trainable with zero health related issues; his hips were x-rayed at a very young age and showed no sign of dysplasia. Chester is quirky and weird. He is often sensitive and shy but has no problems being out in public/social settings with a handler that he trusts and respects. He does not like everyone and he often feels triggered around new people and new settings. On the other side of his introvert character is an intelligent, athletic, and resolutely persistent dog. He enjoys just about everything from playing fetch to exploring hiking trails with the people he loves. Chester needs an experienced handler and/or handlers who can provide upward of 3 hours everyday to care for him and stimulate him mentally/physically. This is a dog for someone who is capable of providing and enforcing rules, routines, and structure consistently on a daily basis.

Story
Zuri - 1 Years old. 75Lbs. German Shepherd  Zuri came to me on October 21st from Knox Indiana. I was able to live trap her after she had been hanging out at a homeowners house since around July.   The homeowner was able to shut her into an outdoor run but eventually let her go after she couldn't find a shelter or rescue to take her. Everyone was full.  While in the outdoor dog run, Zuri became extremely depressed and shut down and so she was given her freedom back until we came along.    While in my care Zuri took about 2 weeks to warm up to me and then another 1,5 weeks after that to warm up to the dogs. She is meeting other dogs and people at a much faster pace now. Still shy, I hope to see her confidently meet new friends in the months coming as she becomes more comfortable with her surrounding environment and builds trust with people.   Now fully integrated with two dogs in her foster home she is a playful and loving dog.  Zuri has lots to learn and I am in no hurry to place her but wanted to share her story with everyone in case there is a special adopter just waiting to take her home.   I am looking for someone who is committed to her needs and continuing classes to help build her confidence.  Zuri is still learning to live inside a home.  At first she was very anxious and paced and whined a lot. Nowadays, she enjoys snuggling on the couch, chewing on a bone and playing with her toys. Zuri is fully housebroken here but we go out often so I have not given her the opportunity to have an accident here. Zuri does not like to be crated and is currently working through separation anxiety. She will need a strong crate to keep her contained and safe while her owners are away from the home.  Zuri is enrolled in classes and is seeing a trainer for help and tips to work through separation anxiety and hopefully help her overcome it soon. She is loyal and loving, sweet and silly.  Zuri will need a secure fenced yard.  Preferably 6ft.   Although she has never tried to jump the 4ft side of my fence I totally think she can and will if given the opportunity or left alone.  Medical: Zuri has been fully vetted including spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and has her bordatella. She was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and we are almost finished with her 30 days of antibitoics. While Lyme disease is not curable, she will need to be on prevention monthly to keep her safe and help her lyme exposure numbers to go down.  Her adoption fee is $200 and you can find an application on our website. www.trackingintheshadows.com ##2213085##
