We recently got Marley from a friend who was about to take her to the shelter. I believe we are her second home. She is very sweet with an amazing personality, but we live in an apartment and it is not the ideal space for her. She’s a medium sized dog, but acts as a small lap dog and will lay around most of the day. She understands commands such as sit, lay, and shake.

When we fostered Teddy (Ted Mosby), we didn't go through a rescue. Instead, we told a friend that we would foster him, get him neutered and chipped, and find him a home. Unfortunately, we have some upcoming medical procedures that won't allow us to keep a large, teenage dog, and they're coming up quickly. Teddy is a 74lb 11-12 month old mix of German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, pit, and another 9 breeds. He's a gorgeous beast and we've started him with training. He's come a long way since June after being left on the street in 102 deg. Teddy is wicked smart. He's a super confident dog, medium drive, non aggressive (but protective) and trains easily. He's a rambunctious, fun dog that will need time and space to adjust and a firm leader to lead him. Ideally, he will be looking for a home without children or other pets, for now- and a home with a fenced in yard. He needs to live with someone who can take the time to work with him on stranger and other dog skills.

Looking for an excellent dog and companion, but also a great potential protection dog or competition dog? Look no further than Mia, our 2-year-old German Shepherd/Malanois mix. This breed makes a loyal and devoted companion. They tend to be a little more level headed like the German Shepherd and are not as overly active as the Malinois and they are easier to live with as a house pet. Mia came to us when her owner decided he was too busy to devote to her the time she deserved. She has completed her basic command and manner training in Camp K-9 at the Kentucky State Reformatory. Her inmate handler describes her as having medium energy. She enjoys walks, playtime with dogs and humans, and playing with her own toys. She is house trained and crate trained. She does alert at strangers sometimes. Mia has a clean bill of health and is up to date on vaccines and is on flea/tick and heart worm prevention. She is microchipped. LuLu -Paws Behind Bars Trained Lulu is German Shepherd mix, and as such, she is a smart, athletic, bundle of energy. Although she is a puppy, our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program is the perfect place to let her grow up. She quickly mastered her obedience training and is able to work on her social skills in all different kinds of situations. LuLu will do best in a home with an owner who has good dog experience, preferably with working breeds. We already see that If LuLu isn't "working, she is looking for puppy mischief. She will need plenty of physical AND mental exercise. At her age, she can be successfully introduced to other dog(s) in the home but we are recommending young male dogs. We do not think she's a good fit for small children or cats. Her home will need a fenced in yard. Most importantly, she needs an owner who will maintain her training and understand her high drive to please and "work". IMPORTANT: Please Keep in mind LuLu is under an year old with a life expectancy of 12 + years. NICO is a 7 year old male, Malinois mix. He is impeccably obedience trained by the inmates of our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. He adopted out by us when he was one and through no fault of his own, he came back last year. He has a nice moderate energy level and he's very loyal to "his person". He requires an owner with dog experience and someone willing to build that mutual respect. Due to his breed, Nico appreciates a task that's his. In the prison, he helps his inmate raise puppies. He looks like a tough guy, but he's got a big, soft spot for the littles. Nico will do best in an adult home with a fenced yard. HIs ADOPTION FEES ARE WAIVED! MISTY is a 3 year old, female german shepherd that weighs 65 lbs. She is smart, affectionate, active and very ready for her forever home. This beautiful girl has been with us for a long time, but just as diamonds do, over time, Misty has formed herself into a lovely young lady. When she was one, she was in big trouble. She was wild, she was anxious, she was lacking in social skills and she was a day away from euthanasia. The urgency to help was evident. We saw a diamond in the rough and we were right! The nurturing pressure we applied along the way allowed her to develop into an awesome dog! Over the last year and a half, we helped her grow up through her "terrible teens". She is, after all, a german shepherd (plus a pinch of yellow lab because we have the DNA to prove it). Adopt Me! always desires a loving, forever home as quickly as possible, but maybe, just maybe, in this case it was all for the good. Misty's all grown up and amazes us every day with what a smart and engaging dog she is. She is a graduate of our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program where she mastered obedience training. Post prison, our dedicated volunteers have worked hard re-introducing her to "life" on the outside. Her social skills are now quite refined. She has her favorite canine trail buddies for walks, and pick up a ball to throw? and it's game on! Her time has come! She's as brilliant as they come! Her perfect "fit" with be with an active, adult family (she'd be fine with older children). She must have a fenced yard. She is fine with other dogs as long as it's a younger, easy going male. Most of all, and in order to thrive, she needs an owner who understand the breed. They are incredibly loyal and smart.
