Story
Hi, my name is Loxy.  I'm a female shepherd mix, about 5-7 years old and only about 50lbs.  My foster mom is working on getting some more weight on me though.  I'm great with dogs, kids, and cats.  With the proper intro and a little time, I will trust a patient and compassionate male.  My last owner, who was a male, wasn't very kind and was quite abusive. I'm crate trained, house trained, and haven't chewed or been destructive at all.  I love riding in the car and going on walks.  I also love to play and paw things around (because I have clearly been hanging out with a lot of cats).  Don't let my age fool you, I'm quite playful and energetic and really a good girl.  I'm fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400 To adopt Loxy, email us at kakf3133@gmail.comNovember 30, 2024, 10:32 pm

Story
Meet Pongo: A Sweet Tripod Looking for His Forever Home! Hi there! I’m Pongo, a 9-month-old German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as my floppy ears! Life threw me a curveball when I was hit by a car and had to lose one of my legs, but I didn’t let that stop me from being the happiest, most loving pup around. I’m now a proud tripod, and I’m learning how to get around just fine—though I’m still growing and building muscle, so sometimes I’m a little clumsy. That just makes me more charming, right? Here’s the lowdown on me: I’m potty trained and have perfect manners in the house. At night, I sleep quietly in my crate, though I’d be thrilled to snuggle up in a cozy bed with you! I know my basic commands like “sit” and “lay down,” and I walk beautifully on a leash. I’m great with other dogs, cats, and I do well around kids, though like many shepherds, I have a bit of a herding instinct. Don’t worry—I’m still learning and can be taught! I’m a playful, friendly pup who loves spending time with my people. I may have three legs, but I’ve got four times the love to give! My ideal family will be patient as I continue to grow and gain strength.  If you’re ready for an amazing companion who will brighten your days with my goofy antics and endless affection, I’d love to meet you! Let’s start our happily-ever-after together.  If you are interested in adopting/meeting Pongo , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet!  The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Adoption fees are the primary way that Starfish is able to continue to our mission to provide medical care, transport, and rescue to dogs in overcrowded shelters. Find out more about our mission here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 10, 2025, 11:16 am

Story
KiKi is a special girl. She was trapped running loose in Bloomington. She has been an angel to other dogs, big and small. She is not one to appreciate being on a leash yet and needs work on that. She will be required to have a 6 foot fence as of now. This is for her safety until she gets more acclimated. She gives her foster mom a kiss every morning and tail wags. She currently uses a doggy door at her foster home. All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile. After we review your completed survey we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. We're primarily a volunteer organization, so we appreciate your patience. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sundays and Mondays and will not be processing any applications on that day. Do get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). Counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and leash to pick up. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart: Park in the PetSmart Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day photo with your pet and family. PCH supports a 21-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we are not able to provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Thank you, Pet Central Helps!

Story
Zeina: Canine Princess! She's a staff favorite at the shelter, and it's easy to see why. Zeina is a gorgeous, 3 year old female German Shepherd mix who is known for being a sweet and playful girly girl who adores attention. She loves to play with toys, and can often be found either lounging or running around with her lucky ball in her mouth.  Zeina is friendly with people of all ages and is super gentle, but we do not have proof if she is good with other dogs or cat friends. We do find she is very calm for a Shepherd! She knows sit and shake, is good at puzzles, and is also quite food/treat motivated.  At only 40 pounds, this underweight girl would benefit from a pawrent who can give her the nourishment and care she needs day after day, year after year. If you can take Lady Zeina home in the chariot she deserves, please apply today! Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
