Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Loxy.  I'm a female shepherd mix, about 5-7 years old and only about 50lbs.  My foster mom is working on getting some more weight on me though.  I'm great with dogs, kids, and cats.  With the proper intro and a little time, I will trust a patient and compassionate male.  My last owner, who was a male, wasn't very kind and was quite abusive. I'm crate trained, house trained, and haven't chewed or been destructive at all.  I love riding in the car and going on walks.  I also love to play and paw things around (because I have clearly been hanging out with a lot of cats).  Don't let my age fool you, I'm quite playful and energetic and really a good girl.  I'm fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400 To adopt Loxy, email us at kakf3133@gmail.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 3, 2025, 1:09 pm

Caramel may be a bit shy when you first meet her, but don't let that fool you-she has a heart of gold. Once she warms up, she reveals her sweet and playful nature. Caramel loves to play tug of war, go for walks, and cuddle up for some quiet time. She would thrive in a patient and understanding home that can give her the time she needs to come out of her shell. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will shower you with love, Caramel is the perfect match for you!

Story
Meet Greta: Hello, I’m Greta! I am a playful and VERY inquisitive 8 year old German Shepherd . I am just over 64 pounds (for now) as my foster mom is taking good care of me to get me back on track. I am expected to be about a healthy 75lbs. I was on the euthanasia list in Texas, because I was there “too long” 45 days to be exact , but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family! When I arrived to my foster home, I first met my furry foster sister Maya! She’s the best and I am learning a lot from her. I still don’t know my name but I am getting better at it! I know basic commands such as sit and stay. I am working with my Hooman foster siblings on “shake”, “stay” “lay down”. The best part is all the treats I get I am still learning to go down the stairs but I am making progress every day! I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my furry foster sister on “my” designated couch space but.. I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there if needed. I love my foster family’s and get along and play respectfully with them. Fetch is my favorite! I also do great on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy snuggle time with my foster mom and love playing With my foster siblings. While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup! I have not met any young kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. However I met many of my foster siblings friends and do great!! If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Meet Pongo: A Sweet Tripod Looking for His Forever Home! Hi there! I’m Pongo, a 9-month-old German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as my floppy ears! Life threw me a curveball when I was hit by a car and had to lose one of my legs, but I didn’t let that stop me from being the happiest, most loving pup around. I’m now a proud tripod, and I’m learning how to get around just fine—though I’m still growing and building muscle, so sometimes I’m a little clumsy. That just makes me more charming, right? Here’s the lowdown on me: I’m potty trained and have perfect manners in the house. At night, I sleep quietly in my crate, though I’d be thrilled to snuggle up in a cozy bed with you! I know my basic commands like “sit” and “lay down,” and I walk beautifully on a leash. I’m great with other dogs, cats, and I do well around kids, though like many shepherds, I have a bit of a herding instinct. Don’t worry—I’m still learning and can be taught! I’m a playful, friendly pup who loves spending time with my people. I may have three legs, but I’ve got four times the love to give! My ideal family will be patient as I continue to grow and gain strength.  If you’re ready for an amazing companion who will brighten your days with my goofy antics and endless affection, I’d love to meet you! Let’s start our happily-ever-after together.  If you are interested in adopting/meeting Pongo , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet!  The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Adoption fees are the primary way that Starfish is able to continue to our mission to provide medical care, transport, and rescue to dogs in overcrowded shelters. Find out more about our mission here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 10, 2025, 11:16 am

Story
Sadie was born August 13, 2021. I got her from a breeder at 3 months old. Sadie is a great family dog that enjoys spending her time with the family. She loves kids and plays with other dogs. Very socially friendly. Supervision is needed with smaller dogs because of a German Shepherd’s natural prey drive. Sadie is very smart and exercise and plenty of training helps stimulate her mind. She loves treats, and is very trainable with food. I would lover her new home to be with someone that enjoys teaching/training, will maintain a rhythm for her, a loving family, fenced in backyard would be nice, kids of any age. Sadie is crate trained, knows basic commands including stay and going to bed. She loves and craves attention. Will follow you everywhere. She’s fine alone.
