Story
Serena, a gorgeous, loyal, and affectionate 4 ½-year-old German Shepherd, is ready to find her forever home. Serena came to us with a wagging tail and a heart full of love and we have so enjoyed getting to know her. She delights in stuffed toys, alligator chews, and stimulating games of fetch.Serena has a solid play-until-you-drop relationship with her foster brother and is also working on other doggie friendships. While she is unaffected by the HSAR resident cat Annie (her stuffed toys are much more important), she happily shares her space. After an unnecessary surgery (she was already spayed), Serena started to react to unfamiliar people and animals with her magnificent GSD bark, but she always remained comfortable with our staff. We`ve been exposing her to new things, people, and animals to help her become less afraid of making new friends. Bribing her with treats also helps! Her comfort levels continue to grow and expand daily, thanks to her desensitization training program.Serena is currently being fostered with our volunteer trainer, who has made great strides in discovering her true personality. She is incredibly smart, obedient, and observant. Serena knows `sit,` `down,` `paw,` `catch,` `stay,` and is learning `drop,` `wait,` `look,` `back,` and `break` (stop playing and return to the person). Her GSD-bred protect and alert ability is polished. She stays quietly in her room or crate and waits for your return. We believe continuing her desensitization training will help Serena reach her full potential. Could you be the one to help her get there?Age: 4 1/2 yearsOther dogs: Serena is a powerful and energized player who would require a friend (s) similar in size and play style.Cats: YesKids: 15+Weight: 62 poundsLeash Behavior: Walks fairly well on leash.
