Story
This is Indy a German Shepherd Mix female about 3 years. Our rescue is trying to find a home for her because she is currently outside in a kennel all day because the owners don't have time and are not home most of the day. She needs a home where she will be cared for and exercised. She is very loving and energetic. Her sister was recently adopted and she's very sad she lost her companion and is eagerly waiting to find a home. Indy has been assessed by our trainer and she is extremely smart, learns so fast. Our trainer said Indy can become a service or emotional support dog. She is intuitive and her level of intelligence is amazing.November 4, 2024, 4:09 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Tia!! Meet Tia, a mix of sweetness, curiosity, and a bit of sass. Out and about, Tia is as calm as they come. She’s a pro at restaurants, Home Depot, breweries—you name it. Just don’t expect her to love chaotic environments; she can get overwhelmed if things get too crazy. At home, though, Tia transforms into a bit of a diva. She’s territorial and protective, so it’s best she’s the only dog in your castle. Tia has a strong prey drive—squirrels, rabbits, you name it, she’s on it. She’ll dart onto the patio if she hears ducks or critters. Walks with Tia are an olfactory adventure; she’ll stop on a dime or zigzag to catch a whiff of something interesting. She's house-trained and has never had an accident inside. She’s a toy enthusiast—squeaky balls and ropes are her jam. Tennis balls don’t stand a chance. Thankfully, she doesn’t destroy shoes or remotes, and we're working on her fetching skills. Tia is good on the leash, a champ in the car, and full of zest for life. Tia’s previous family surrendered her when they realized they couldn’t keep up with her energy. She needs daily exercise and structure to thrive. She’s looking for a loving home that can provide the time, activity, and structure she needs. If you’re ready for a loyal, playful, and occasionally sassy companion, Tia’s your girl. She’s got a lot of love to give to the right person—could it be you? Email labradorsandfriends@yahoo.com or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Tia is located in Southern California.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 7:50 pm

Story
Meet Daunte, a German Shepherd mix. Daunte was taken into Leonberger Rescue Pals because an initial assessment thought he may be a Leo mix. However, once we took him in we realized this was not likely the case, and subsequent DNA testing showed he is about ½ German Shepherd, with the rest a mix of other breeds. He is healthy, and the DNA test screened for some possible genetic problems and all were clear. He is currently around 130# and could stand to lose a bit of that. He initially had a family that was going to adopt him, but there ended up being a long period while they were moving into a new home while we kept Daunte in foster. Unfortunately, after they had a home one of the family. Members was involved in an accident and that made it impossible for them to handle a larger dog safely. Therefore, he remained in foster and is looking for a new home. He is extremely friendly with people. Originally at the shelter he was nervous of people, although did not react badly—no aggression, just a bit fearful. We found that he loves being groomed, and with that he quickly warmed up and gained trust and now he is outgoing and friendly meeting new people. I have not tested him with children, although I expect he would be fine. Of course he is large and fairly active, so it is always a good idea to be cautious when with children until you are sure how they are together. When he first came into foster he was introduced to several other dogs and did fine. However, after a few days he started to pick fights with the other dogs, even though the other dogs were acting properly. I believe he did not have experience living with other dogs, and did not know how to handle being with other dogs. So, after some time he had to be separated from the other dogs. We have done further testing and training and he is much less reactive now. Although we still keep him separated from other dogs, it is possible that he would be OK with some dogs--but that is not certain. He would thrive as an only dog as long as he has human company.
