Story
Salma and Roberta are sisters, I took them in because they couldn’t go anywhere else. Now that I am moving I can no longer take care of them. They don’t need to go together although they do act like they can’t live without each other. They are both very energetic and love to play , they are both about 6 months old now. I would say they are friendly with other dogs as they really liked to play with a friends dog who was much bigger than them. I’ve been really busy with work and school so I didn’t get a chance to train them that well although they do great in walks and listen when they are called. They are really sweet which is why it sucks that I need to give them away but hopefully they find a nice home with nice people that can care for them. Please let me know if you have any questions , the sooner the better as I need to find them a home as soon as possible.

11/20/24 06:41Dog Day Out ReportToday I: went on another adventure with my good friend. I was soooo excited to see my friend again but as always, I was patient when getting my harness on (I know that the faster the harness goes on, the faster I get to go out!). Then we hopped in the car and went to the park. We went to a different park today and it was very exciting. I saw some horses and really wanted to check them out, but my friend said we should keep our distance. Then we saw a wild boar and I really REALLY wanted to investigate but my friend said we really REALLY had to stay away. Then as usual I got a pup cup to end our walk, yum.Three Words to Describe Me are: Motivated, Curious, Sweet Notes from My Walker: As usual, though very excited to go out, Bumblebee was very good for getting for getting her harness and collar on (she was literally shaking with excitement but still stood patiently for the harness). She was great in the car and excited to get walking. Also, as usual, she was a bit of a puller especially when she saw any small critters. We did have quite an exciting walk where we ran across some horses (and riders) and a wild boar, she was quite interested in both being the curious and adventurous lady she is. She is friendly and non-reactive to other dogs, she also ignores bikes, cars, and people when out walking. She is treat motivated and smart, she already knows sit and shake, and could easily learn more commands. Overall, she is a wonderful dog who would make a great adventure buddy.Dog Day Out Report from week of October 20th.Today I: went on a nice long walk at the park. I was super excited to go out but was still patient when getting my leash and harness on. I like sticking my head out the window in the car and biting the air. Once we got to the park, I couldn’t wait to stretch my legs and get walking! We walked for many miles, and it was so nice to get some good exercise. I had so much fun sniffing all the squirrel holes and trying to catch lizards! After our walk I got a pupcup, YUM!Three Words to Describe Me are: Sweet, Curious, Enthusiastic Notes from My Walker: busy little bumblebee is one of my favorite pups here at the shelter, I can’t believe she is one of the shelters most overlooked dogs. She is sweet, smart, motivated, and not to mention gorgeous and a great size. I love taking her out, while she is excited to go out, she is still patient while getting harnessed up. S

09/11/24 14:05Foster reports: During the weekend we took a trip to downtown Sunnyvale and practiced meeting new friends. On the way over, Chiquita was a great car passenger, content to just look outside the window or calmly lie down. In town she did wonderfully, walking well next to me on the sidewalk, investigating all the exciting new sights and smells, and waiting patiently at crosswalks. We met up with a couple new humans and a dog as practice. With a slow introduction, letting Chiquita approach as she felt comfortable and with lots of treats for encouragement, she quickly recognized both humans and dog as friends. Chiquita loves her treats, whether it’s a dog treat, fruit, or cheese - this sweet girl is not a picky eater. Bring her a treat, or a handful, and she’ll happily become your friend too!06/19/24 12:43Foster Reports: Chiquita has been enjoying the warm weather with visits to the park and long walks around the neighborhood. She walks well on a leash and is very good about checking in with me often. We have been working on her interest in other people and dogs on walks. She’s highly food motivated and has been doing well with redirection. She now walks easily past humans and is showing good progress with dogs. I am always impressed with how quickly she learns new things. Chiquita does have a prey drive with a high interest in squirrels and cats, so she would probably do best in a home without cats. She loves to chew on toys and is eager to play with her foster sibling. I believe she could do well as an only dog or with a dog sibling to run around with. Chiquita is such a sweet soul and the ultimate cuddle bug who loves lots of snuggles and belly rubs. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving companion who’s eager to learn, she’s your girl!Email us at SJFoster@SanJoseca.gov to arrange a meeting with her.

10/09/24 22:59Dog Day Out Report:Today I: went to Almaden Lake Park with my friend, and we had such a great time! We took a long walk around the lake. I saw beautiful flowers, watched birds, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere with so many people walking, jogging, and biking. Plus, I met tons of doggie friends along the way! I sniffed a ton of amazing scents, and to top it all off, I got a pup cup at the end and went to a dog and cat store. It was such a fun and relaxing day!Three Words to Describe Me are: Chill, Polite, GentleNotes from My Walker: Wanda is a beautiful German Shepherd Dog who has been at the shelter for quite a while. I was thrilled to take her out and spend some time together last Saturday. We had a fantastic time! Before our outing, I’ve walked her during my volunteer shifts for several times and I understood that she was a little bit shy and might feel a little uncomfortable when people touching her (she was super calm and sweet and would not do anything, I just observed from her body language). So I leashed and harnessed her in a side yard at the end of my volunteer shift to make her feel relaxed and comfortable. I distracted her with some tasty treats, and she let me put the collar and harness on without any fuss! She was a little unsure about my car at the beginning. But after I climbed into the back seat, she jumped in without any hesitation! Then she rode beautifully the whole way, sometimes looking out of the window curiously, sometimes lay down to have some rest.We walked along the lake in the park and she happily sniffed everything. Along the trail, we ran into walkers, joggers, cyclists, and other dog walkers, and Wanda was so polite with everyone! She was not reactive to anything and really calm when we passed by other dogs. She was not interested in the geese and ducks. When a squirrel ran in front of her within a short distance, she was alert for a short moment and did not react or tried to follow the squirrel at all. Most of the time, she just strolled around on a loose leash and enjoyed her time super chill. Wanda was super treat motivated and would take treats nicely with a soft mouth! Before we headed back, we sat together in the back seat and Wanda took a bunch of treat. After that, I pet her gently and she seemed really enjoyed it. Wanda is a wonderful girl. She deserves a loving family! Come and meet Wanda and she’ll definitely melt your heart!

08/14/24 04:02DOG DAY OUT REPORT Today I: went to Almaden Lake Park with my friend. I saw a lot of people, other doggy friends in the park! I sniffed a loooooooot of scents! After a long walk, I got a pupcup and went shopping in a dog and cat store! And I picked some of my favorite snacks! It was so much fun!Three Words to Describe Me are: Sweet, Playful, SmartNotes from My Walker: Kwami is one handsome and sweet pup! I took him out for a SVPP Shelter Dog Day Out this Saturday and we had a blast!I didn`t get to spend much time with him when I volunteered at the shelter before. But he was incredibly sweet! He came over to give me kisses as soon as we met, let me leash and harness him without any problems, went potty before we got in the car, and hopped right in as soon as I opened the door for him! He was so much fun that no matter which door I opened, he would jump in without hesitation! In the car, he was so relaxed. He settled down and started playing with the toys right away. He was a bit wiggly during the ride, so I decided to give him some extra security by attaching his leash to the back seat. But at one point, he must have thought the floor was more comfortable, so he sneakily managed to free himself from the Kurgo seatbelt tether and his leash, and then he cozily laid down on the floor under the hammock for the rest of the journey. lol. While we were at the park, we saw many people walking, jogging, and riding bikes, and he was incredibly friendly with everyone we encountered! He remained calm even when other dogs barked at him, just wagging his tail and being friendly to all. It seemed like he wanted to make friends with everyone. Although he pulled a bit during our walk, he frequently stopped to sniff around and generally walked well on the leash. He was very eager for treats and knew commands like `sit,` `down,` and ‘paw’.Towards the end, we got him a pupcup and took him to PetSmart. He was so relaxed in the store, carefully selecting his favorite snacks! It was soooo much fun to watch him shopping!Kwami is an incredibly sweet and handsome boy with a multitude of wonderful qualities: friendly, intelligent, affectionate, playful, loving, happy, and loyal. Just thinking about him makes me smile. He truly deserves a loving family, and I have no doubt that he will give back with the very best of himself! (Just a friendly reminder: make sure to double-check that his leash is intact before letting him out

Story
Lorelie T is a beautifully proportioned, classic looking female "pocket" German Shepherd.  Lorelie is gentle and affectionate, and loves going on walks.  Her mobility is typical for a senior dog, having no problems with short walks and easily navigating 3-4 steps.  Lorelie is good with some dogs, but she can be selective about who she opens up to and plays with.  She would do best as an only dog in a home without young kids. Lorelie T Summary:- Female, 13 yrs old, 53 pounds- Good with adults, older kids, some dogs- TBD - cats What's Next:  Lorelie is ready for adoption!  Thulani does not charge an adoption fee and provides medical coverage for life.  All Thulani dogs go to their forever homes with a supply of food, a cushy bed, and toys if wanted.  All dogs pass a set of evaluation tests before being accepted into TSGSR.  The tests are not intended to assess how smart the dog is but are important for TSGSR to determine if the dog is expected to be safe in a family home.  The tested behaviors check to see if the dog will guard or protect food or toys from people, will tolerate handling all over its body (including ears, nose, lips to check teeth, lifting paws, belly, back, and gently pulling the tail).  This dog remained calm during all of these tests and showed no aggressive tendencies. ##1715732##

Story
Clarissa T is the pawsfect dog!  She came to Thulani from the Long Beach Shelter in December and is currently being fostered in Southern California. She is an eight year old, spayed female, weighs about 85 pounds and is all that an adopter could ask for. Her energy level is moderate, she is house-trained, very affectionate, has a calm manner about her, friendly with people, OK with dogs, and great with kids. She will accept and give hugs anytime of the day, tail wagging. She also loves her walks, (on occasion will pull on the leash) loves car rides and is crate-trained. She would also do well in learning basic commands. All in all, the pawsfect dog who will make a wonderful companion. Story
Hi, I am Meeko, and I just might be the perfect match for you.  I am a loyal, 8 year old, 62 pound pup looking for my forever home.  Here is what my foster says about me!  Meeko bonds easily to one person and craves closeness to that person.  She loves attention and affection, but when it comes to food, look out, given a choice between food and her person, food comes first so be mindful of food left out!  Her activities include at least two easy daily walks, car rides where she can put her nose out the window to do sniffing, settling in with family, napping, watching TV and just relaxing.  While outside, she will chase small animals, and other dogs, if given the opportunity.  Lastly she so wants to be with her person that she has a hard time being left alone and likes it best when her family is settled and she can relax.   Meeko would benefit from having an experienced adopter who is able to spend time with her and provide her with the leadership she sometimes needs.  In summation, Meeko is looking for a moderate to active home, and is a precious dog who is sure to bring her new family lots of warmth and love.  ##1915683##

Story
Kaia is a sweet, nine-year-old German Shepherd with a mellow, easy-going temperament and a heart full of love. She’s the ideal companion for a quiet home where she can relax and enjoy her peaceful surroundings. Though she loves having her people around, she’s comfortable napping alone when left at home. When she catches the scent of treats, though, she’s happy to get up and join the fun! Kaia does well in the car and enjoys peeking out the window, especially when there are new sights and smells to explore.Kaia is incredibly gentle and friendly, winning over hearts with her calm, affectionate nature. Kaia walks well on a leash and doesn’t pull, especially when it’s just her and her handler. While she may get excited and pull toward other dogs to say hello, she responds well to redirection and is learning commands like "look at me" to stay focused. When meeting other dogs, Kaia may get a bit excited, but with a calm and structured introduction, she’s comfortable around them after a day or two. She’d likely do best with a dog sibling who’s polite and has good manners, as Kaia mostly enjoys napping when other dogs are around and appreciates a calm, respectful companion. She thrives with gentle activities like sniffing, exploring, and using her favorite snuffle mat to forage for treats, which is her favorite way to “play.” Kaia is crate-trained and well-behaved at home, and she doesn’t mind a good bath or grooming session. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle soul to welcome into your life, Kaia could be the perfect fit. ##2137810##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Gentle-hearted ShepherdCoco is a 2.5 year-old Malinois / German Shepherd mix who weighs approximately 78lbs.  Coco is just a sweet, gentle-hearted boy. Curious, goofy, loving, and energetic - he loves everyone, and sees the best in them. Coco currently lives with two older 4-legged brothers and, while he would love to live with a fur-sibling, he is not part of a bonded pair. As long as he has fur friends to play with, Coco will be a happy boy! When playing with his human pals, Coco is very verbally responsive and wants to please. He knows several commands and loves to play complex games with his toys. When he gets a bit over-stimulated, he puts himself into a timeout under his foster family's kitchen table to rest and reset! Sweet Coco has been perfectly house trained since day one, loves car rides, loves to go for walks and is learning not to pull in excitement when he meets new friends - that is Everyone! Despite his size and youth, Coco does not need long hikes to manage his energy. 15-20 minutes a couple times a day and play sessions with his fur siblings are great exercise for Coco. Coco knows the benefit of "Sit", "Down" and "Touch" to get his favorite treats, and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training. Check out Coco's profile on Rocky Kanaka! https://rockykanaka.com/one-leg-short-but-full-of-heart-a-german-shepherds-inspiring-escape-from-adversity/ Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 7:25 pm

She would thrive with a family that understands her breed genetics and is not a first-time pet owner. An active household that is confident in working with energetic dogs will be the perfect fit for Sidney, ensuring she receives the exercise and mental stimulation she needs to flourish.08/25/24 23:17DOG DAY OUT REPORT Today: my friend took me on a 6.5 mile jog around Shady Oaks Park, along Coyote Creek Trail and through Hellyer Industrial Park. I was so excited to go out that I was hopping around like Tigger as we got ready to go on our adventure. I was a bit nervous getting into the car, but my friend showed me what to do and after that, I was confident doing it on my own. On the trail, there were so many things to smell, I didn’t know what to do with myself - I was bouncing all over. There were lots of foxtails though, so we decided to jog for a while but once it was safe, my friend let me get in all the sniffs. There were a lot of distractions on our walk, and some I was nervous about, so my friend helped me through those moments. I also really enjoyed chasing all the squirrels. After our long jog, we cooled down in the shade, where I got treats and pets.Three Words to Describe Me are: Athletic, Sweet-natured, Vigilant
