Story
Leslie is a gorgeous two-year-old German Shepherd mix who has been awaiting her forever home for far too long! Leslie got to attend a yoga class and was a star `yoga assistant`: Leslie can be a little shy while meeting new people and encountering new things. Unfortunately, her trepidation sometimes means she will bark at people she doesn’t know, which in turn makes people shy away from her. Thankfully, the trainers at Pasadena Humane have been working with her to build her confidence, and they’ve seen her start to show off her true personality much more clearly. Leslie is a VERY smart and easy-to-train dog. She knows quite a few training cues like “sit”, “down” and “shake”. She will even “play dead” and pretty much anything else you try to teach her. With a smart dog like Edman the sky is the limit! Leslie also bonds very quickly with everyone who can see through the gruff exterior that she puts up. Once you’re in her inner circle, all she wants is to be attached to you at the hip. She will constantly check in on you as you take her out for a walk or work on training with her. As her confidence grows, her inquisitive and fun nature comes out. She will find a plush toy to relax with, or she’ll sniff out the treat you thought she missed. When she relaxes on her dog bed, she is as happy as can be. With the right family, this shy girl will surely blossom into the amazing dog we all know she can be! Come spend some time with Leslie and see this diamond in the rough! I`m available for a 10 day adoption trial!Learn more about our adoption process.

Story
Mookie is a 4-year-old Shepherd with a gentle heart and a strong desire for affection. He’s a sweet, lovable boy who thrives on human interaction and enjoys being the center of attention, leaning in for pets and scritches at every opportunity. Mookie’s interactions with volunteers showcase his affectionate nature, often nudging for more pets and even resting his head on laps to soak up all the love he can get.Mookie walks well on a leash and has shown great improvement over time. He’s quite treat-motivated, making training and engagement activities a rewarding experience for him. Mookie doesn’t know many commands yet, but he is eager to learn and responds well to food-based rewards. He continues to enjoy exploring yards and going on walks, with a particular fondness for sniffing and investigating his surroundings. He’s happiest when he’s getting plenty of attention and love, often rolling on his back in delight or nudging for more scritches.Despite his generally calm and affectionate demeanor, Mookie is still learning to navigate the world confidently. He can be a bit cautious in new environments, especially busy streets or when encountering unfamiliar noises like loud buses or flags flapping. However, he’s curious and brave, taking his time to evaluate what’s ahead and often proceeding with encouragement. Mookie’s gentle, loving personality shines through even when he’s feeling uncertain, and he seeks reassurance through close contact and affection.Overall, Mookie would be a fantastic companion for someone looking for a loyal and affectionate dog who enjoys quiet moments of affection as much as he does exploring the world around him. He’d thrive in a home where he can receive plenty of love, patient guidance, and a calm environment to help him build his confidence. If you’re looking for a sweet, loving Shepherd to complete your family, Mookie is ready to fill that role with all the affection and loyalty he has to offer! Story
Abalone is a spirited 2-year-old shepherd mix with a heart full of energy and a nose for adventure! This charming pup is always eager to get going and can’t wait to be outside exploring. When it’s time to leash up, Abalone is raring to go and may need a bit of patience to get him ready due to his excitement, but he quickly settles into a steady pace once out and about.Abalone’s walk style is a mix of enthusiasm and curiosity. He loves to zigzag as he investigates every scent and keeps an eye out for squirrels and birds, showing his high prey drive. In fact, he may pull a bit on the leash to get a closer look at anything interesting! Although he sometimes finds crossing streets a bit intimidating, he’ll pause and lean into you for reassurance, showing just how much he trusts and bonds with his humans.During playtime in the yard, Abalone’s playful side shines. He’ll run around and even engage in a bit of leash nibbling—he’s still learning what playtime looks like and might need some help in redirecting this energy. Once he’s had his fill of excitement, Abalone enjoys a calm, affectionate break. He loves to lean into your legs for pets and will even try to climb into your lap for a few face licks.Ideal Home: Abalone would thrive in an active home with a patient owner who can provide him with consistent training, plenty of outdoor adventures, and positive guidance to help him polish his leash manners. If you’re ready for a lovable, energetic companion with a curious mind and a big heart, Abalone is eager to meet you!I`m available for a 10 day adoption trial!Learn more about our adoption process.

BONDED MOTHER AND DAUGHTER PAIR: MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.Say hello to mother/daughter duo Sasha (brunette, younger) and Mila (blonde, older). These gorgeous Shepherds are a bonded pair and ton of fun. Two volunteers took them out for a day hike in Griffith Park and everyone had a fantastic time!!! Mila likes to lead the pack when do our Happy Tails group hikes, so when other dogs came near, she wanted to follow them so she could take the lead. (Nothing aggressive, she just wants to be in front.) We distracted her with some treats and she quickly became more interested in snacking than leading. Sasha was a true mama`s girl. She stayed close by Mila and was very good with other dogs. Mila and Sasha *loved* relaxing on the grass, and the crows in the trees were especially fascinating to Mila. They were both very alert to people and other dogs walking around, but were very well behaved. They also went to Starbucks for their first puppuccino and boy did they love it!Mila and Sasha are very smart and food motivated so training will be easy. Their adoption comes with a free month of training from GoodPup.com to ease them into her new home and help them bond with their new family.Their Shepard nature means they want to be where you are and make your life fun and interesting. Yes- 2 big dogs is a lot of dog, but this bonded pair is so in sync that its not overwhelming. They are a source of laughter and playfulness and activity- all they want from you is a safe space, consistency, love and regular long walks/hikes/play sessions. If you can offer that and are ready to vacuum a lot (it’s a lot of fur- we won’t lie) then this dynamic duo is ready for you.

Story
Say hello to Captain, a 2 year old male German Shepherd. When we take him out to the play yard, the boy likes to show off his talents. Toss a ball and he will retrieve it and drop it at your feet. He can catch the ball midair too. He knows several common obedience commands like, sit and stay.Captain is very playful, and being only 2 yrs old, he has plenty of puppy-like enthusiasm to share. His coat is rich and thick so be prepared to thoroughly brush him a few times a week. He likes it, and it`s a great bonding time too! Captain would love to be your new best pal. Come meet him and make him your new fur baby.?? **Adopt Captain!** ??From Captain`s Hiking Volunteer:Meet **Captain**, a 2.5-year-old German Shepherd looking for his forever home at the Burbank Animal Shelter! ?? This handsome boy is as sweet as they come—he loves people, is friendly to everyone he meets, and is a fantastic companion for car rides. ?? Whether you`re headed to the park or just cruising around town, Captain will be right by your side, happy and calm.Captain is also a leash-walking pro! ?? He enjoys his walks and would love an active owner who can give him plenty of exercise and adventure. However, Captain prefers to be the only dog in the household and is best suited for a home where he can be the center of attention and showered with love!If you’re looking for a loyal, loving dog to make your days brighter, Captain is your guy! ???? **Location**: Burbank Animal Shelter ?? **Breed**: German Shepherd ??? **Age**: 2.5 years ?? **Ideal Home**: One-pet household ?? **Great With People**: Yes! The day hike with Captain was great. He hopped in the car easy and was a great passenger. We walked to get coffee and then hung out in the backyard. He loves getting sprayed with water, being brushed, and chasing the ball. He was great with my two kids. We then ran some errands and went on another walk before heading back to the shelter. He is strong and pulls on the leash, but he seems very eager to please so I bet just a little bit of training would help him alot.

Story
Say hello to this beautiful bonded duo! A volunteer spent time with them and had this to say: `They don’t currently have names, so as always, I started calling them names I made up. The smoother coated mixed breed was “Boots” and the husky was “Sneaker”. Not intentionally shoe themed, but there it is. These 2 stunners are super sweet, in need of a spa day to get those winter sheds handled, and pretty chill when we hung out. Boots is the braver of the 2- coming up to me immediately and bring super curious and trying to hog all the pets being offered. Sneaker is way more shy, slower to warm up and content to hang back a little and just get her measure of me. Once we were hanging out for a bit they both determined I was pretty nice and knew all the good places to scritch and even had a pocket full of treats. We were limited in space, so I didn’t get to see them play or cut loose, how they behave on leash or around other dogs- maybe next time we will. I can say they were very gentle with me, even when pushing each other around. Not particularly reactive to the noise and movement going on around us. I was expecting to get pummeled by young playful dogs but they were very kind and polite. I was honored when Sneaker decided I could give pets and even a kiss on the head- since she’s so shy. We went slow and I had her smiling by the end. They’re really a lovely fluffy duo of ladies that would make for a great family completing pair.` Come to the Burbank Animal Shelter to foster or adopt Boots (A127648) and Sneaker (A127649)
