Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMilo a gentle and loving soul. This sweet boy is around 2-3 years old and may have had a rough start in life. He's made tremendous strides in his foster homes and has learned to be a more confident dog. He was once fearful and nervous around new situations and people. Now, he welcomes guests, wagging his tail in excitement for some tasty treats. He's even conquered his fear of passing strangers on the leash! He still may have some stranger danger but it's getting better every day. Fosters have reported that Milo is a playful and healthy pup who loves nothing more than being outside, playing, and exploring with his furry foster doggie siblings. He's full of affection and adores being petted, and his favorite place to cuddle up is right next to his beloved humans. He is potty trained, knows basic commands, and is non-destructive when left home alone. Milo is a good sleeper too, sleeping soundly through the night! One thing is for sure: this dog is full of love and loyalty, waiting for the perfect family to give him the love and care he deserves. Milo will thrive in a calm and adult-only home, with routine and consistency so that he can continue to feel safe. With his good nature and willingness to learn, Milo is ready to be a faithful companion for life. Could you be the one to give him the loving home he's been waiting for? He adores people and forms deep bonds with his humans. And yes, he has mastered the art of "puppy eyes"! Max is incredibly soft and adores affection and belly rubs. Don't let his senior status fool you; full of life, this pup is far from retirement and maintains excellent mobility, hearing, and eyesight. He relishes going on walks, car rides, and is always eager for new adventures, such as exploring the coastal trail at Half Moon Bay or hiking on local nature trails. His current routine includes two daily walks around the neighborhood and mental exercises to keep him healthy and content. He reveals his playful side when pouncing on plush squeaking toys or zooming around the yard. Max has mastered many new skills, proving that older dogs are both capable and intelligent. He is crate trained, and understands numerous commands and associated hand signals. Max is highly food motivated and fearlessly attempts anything for treats, from navigating a long tunnel to jumping over small objects. His food motivation aids in his training and eagerness to learn new tricks. Max resides in a suburban foster home with a yard enclosed by a 6-foot fence, where he enjoys a balance of indoor and outdoor time. While Max prefers to be the sole focus of attention, he has enjoyed a few playdates with select tolerant dogs.  If you're searching for a truly remarkable companion with a sweet and affectionate demeanor, look no further than Max. I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereAmana is a sweet and loving soul who was found as a stray running through traffic. She now lives in a 1 bedroom apartment with her foster mom and dad and enjoys lounging at home or being out on an adventure. She is a medium energy GSD who is easily tired with some fetch or running with other dogs. She is house trained, is fine being left alone, rides calmly in cars, and walks nicely on leash. Amana is very smart and picks up new commands quickly. She has learned sit, down, stay, come, leave it, take it, paw, up, back up, and off. She has prey drive so should go to a cat-free household. She is good with older children and has ignored toddlers and small children. She could be a solo dog or go to a home with a well-matched dog. Check her out at @adopt_oas_amana on Instagram! Calm and Sweet Nature:  Exhibiting super calm and sweet behavior, Champagne remains composed and gentle, even during activities like bath time. She has been diagnosed with a skin condition called Pyoderma and receives frequent medicated baths. Leash Mastery:  Walking on an amazingly loose leash, Champagne proves to be an excellent walking companion, making strolls a pleasant experience. Though she will pull if she sees a squirrel run by!  Smart girl. According to her foster family, she is so smart and knows "sit," "lay down," and figured out how to open a door on her own.  Peanut Butter Connoisseur:  Champagne's love for peanut butter adds a delightful and endearing detail to her preferences, creating opportunities for enjoyable treats. We think Champagne would like to be the one and only dog in the home, but she may appreciate having some doggie friends! She is currently in foster with another dog and is doing well, after slow introductions.  If you're looking for a furry companion who brings happiness, calmness, and a touch of sweetness to your life, Champagne is the perfect match! Currently living in an apartment, Dimka is chill and enjoys spending time with her foster family. She loves going potty outside and will let you know when she needs to go. While she doesn’t love being left alone, she’s great in the car and can jump in and out of her foster’s SUV on her own! Dimka thrives on socialization and has enjoyed playdates with other dogs, getting along well with both pups and even cats. Super responsive to her person Food and praise motivated Calm and relaxed in car LOVES chin pets and back scratches, and rubbing through your legs Athletic and playful, but undemanding about it Curious, brave, and resilient, just needs a slow pace Just wants to be at your side, loving you From her foster family: Chapina is blossoming outside of the scary shelter, and wow, she is a GEM. She is sweetness itself, and the most responsive foster we’ve had yet! This gentle, intelligent girl wants to connect so badly—she is going to be the most devoted companion to her family. Chapina is affectionate with our resident dog, giving him little kisses and staying close. She would make the best friend to your best friend! Although she seems like she has zero experience with most things, by your side Chapina is intelligent, curious, and brave. We even took her on vacation, and she was very easy and a joy to travel with! Chapina is a sweet and sensitive soul who will likely need some time and space to decompress in a new home. Story
Chip has truly blossomed in his foster home and is becoming "one of the pack". His foster mom has nothing but high praises for this handsome guy "Gosh...he is so sweet", "A couple of times he has initiated play with our females [GSDs] and it's adorable", "He does love getting a ball outside and carrying it around. We gave in an inside ball to, to chew on, in the house, which he will do sometimes. Mostly, he loafs around with the rest of the pack. We are so enjoying this guy". Chip has had a couple of interactions with their cat and basically ignores him. He even walked right past him and since he didn't care, neither did the cat. Chip will make a wonderful companion for some lucky adopter. ---------------------------------------------------------- Chip is a sweet boy shamefully neglected and is believed to have been dumped at the Modesto reservoir! Golden State German Shepherd Rescue evaluated this gorgeous male and he passed our temp test with flying colors!! Chip, can be talkative in his kennel and is friendly. Chip is a curious boy, but he also likes to lay down and relax. He walks well on a leash and he know "sit". When he wants pets, he may nude you or put his head on your lap! In the Stanislaus shelter, he loved splashing in the pool and carrying toys and dipping them in the water. He throws toys for himself and then runs around and collects them all. He doesn’t seem to know to bring them back to a person but maybe he never was taught. In the kennel, he has been a perfect gentleman and is very respectful of everyone and everything...except his water bowl! Below are a few videos of Chip taken while he was in the shelter: Chip's Playlist https://youtu.be/j0jyMFl35UQ?si=IfJP-_0FbRZdjSdF FOSTERED IN ACAMPO Adoption Form here

Story
Pretty 10-month-old Luna was found as a stray in north Stockton. The kind family that found her, checked around their neighborhood, checked for a microchip, and even checked the Stockton shelter to no avail. They decided to contact GSGSR. Luna just completed her six-week obedience training class with K9 SOS https://www.facebook.com/K9sosdogtraining/ and NAILED the graduation obstacle course! Training has definitely improved Luna's all-around confidence. Luna is housebroken, rides well in a car, and although she lives with a Labrador brother named Cholo (who can get on her nerves), Luna is still learning doggie social skills and manners and can get excited when she sees new dogs. Luna would do best with an experienced and patient owner, one who can and will commit to continuing her training. FOSTERED IN STOCKTON Adoption Form here

Hit the trail with Claus! There's nothing like camping or hiking with a furry friend. They help you to be in the moment, to stop and smell the roses, and they're such great company. If you've been wanting a companion to enjoy the great outdoors with, Claus may be your guy! This stunning, curious, confident 2-year-old German shepherd loves to go out and about, and is super smart. He's a quick learner, attentive, and adores people. (Other dogs, not so much at this stage. He should be the only dog in your home.) We think he'd thrive with someone who would get him into parks and nature and expend some energy. * Alert, intelligent * Loves people * Best tongue-out faces * Quick learner * Might not be dog friendly * Adults-only forever home preferred * Dog-savvy kids 14 and older okay Did you know FAAS offers $200 of canine behavior training with every dog adoption? Come take Claus for a walk along our waterfront and get to know this bold, beautiful youngster. We're open noon to 4PM every day but Monday at 1590 Fortmann Way location in Alameda, California.

Story
Demi is a handsome four year old Red Sable male GSD who was found as a stray in the Stockton shelter. He was picked up by Animal Control in June and was placed on the euthanasia list by August. The Stockton shelter contacted Golden State and thankfully Cynthia was available and she eagerly offered to foster this handsome guy. Demi is brand new to Golden State so we don't know much about him. However, he does appear to be extremely smart (Cynthia calls him the "K9 Einstein") and enjoys the company of dogs, both large and small. He also enjoys the company of people, especially women. Demi will require an owner who is committed and active, one who enjoys hiking, jogging, or even high level obedience training. Demi might even enjoy doing some Rally-O. "Rally Obedience (sometimes called "Rally-O") is a new take on traditional obedience competitions. Rally-O encourages human/canine verbal communication, eye contact, and moving in harmony. Teamwork is the goal. In both Rally-O and traditional Obedience, dogs perform heeling, sit, stay, and recall." https://positively.com/.../dogs-sports-activities-rally... He is currently learning housemanners and crate training. More information, pictures, and videos will be made available as soon as get to know him better. FOSTERED IN MODESTO

Story
Cute, adorable, and ever so loving and happy, Solo is a six month old GSD mix that was dumped in Linden. He was found and saved by a kind Samaritan who took him home. She initially thought she had found a possible home with one of her co-workers but could not keep him until the family returned from vacation. Another co-worker named Rasheeda offered to temporarily foster Solo until the family could take him. Unfortunately, when the family returned, they had changed their mind and decided not to adopt him so Rasheeda ended up with Solo. She didn't have many other options so she called Golden State. Solo has a couple of large breed four-legged siblings and can "keep up with the big dogs". He is also very comfortable with people of all ages and is good with kitties. He is housebroken, crate trained, and loves to play fetch. Rasheeda has a basket filled with toys and Solo loves to take out a bunch at a time. Solo walks well on a leash but would benefit from more training because, since he is still a puppy, he can get exctied and has a tendency to jump on people. However, Rasheeda is diligently teaching him to keep "four on the floor". Solo would do best with someone who has experience and the resources (time, energy, and commitment) raising a puppy but would absolutely love another dog in the home to keep him company. Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog I:3Meet Crouton! This sweet 6-month-old, 45-pound Malinois mix is a bundle of joy with a heart full of love and energy! Crouton was found as a stray, but he’s quickly warming up to the good life—and we think you’ll fall for him just as much as we have. Crouton is still a puppy at heart, so he’s got plenty of energy to burn. He LOVES chase games with other dogs, and though he’s high-energy, he’s also incredibly well-behaved on walks. He walks like a champ on leash—no pulling, just easy-going, happy steps. He’s a people-pleaser, too, getting along with everyone he meets, from kids to seniors, and gently accepting treats from little hands. He’s a curious and intelligent guy—already knows "sit," "down," and "paw," and he’s eager to learn more. A family that enjoys staying active, or even a solo home with some canine pals, would be ideal for this happy, loving guy. Crouton will thrive in a home where he has both a job to do and someone to share the joy of his wagging tail. While he may be a little nervous in the car (we’re still working on those "sea legs"), once he’s settled, Crouton is the perfect companion. He stays calm on leash when he sees other dogs and small animals, so if you love jogging, he’s the running buddy you’ve been looking for! Could Crouton be your match? Come meet this sweet, goofy guy and let him show you what a wonderful companion he’ll be! December 20, 2024, 6:36 pm

Story
Lucille is a 4-year female Dutch Shepherd mix, about 70 pounds, and might just be the softest dog in the world! She loves to cuddle with her humans, shred cardboard boxes, and play with hoses. She's sweet, loyal, and affectionate, though can be shy at first with new people. Once she warms up to you, she is so loving and appreciates spending quality time together. Lucille thrives in a household with structure and routine and is used to being left at home while her humans are at work, etc. She is smart, learns quickly, is housebroken, leash-trained, has some crate training, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, down, touch, leave it, paw, come, place). Lucille likes long walks but is not high-energy. She has anxiety that is well-managed with a daily established medication regimen. She will do best being the single pet in a household, which is the only reason why she needs a new home that is a better fit for her. We will discuss subsidizing some meds and potential training with applicants.
