Story
Meet Channing! This gorgeous girl is Channing. We are still getting to know her & she is still getting settled in. We think she is probably under a year old and is currently a little underweight at 42 lbs. Her markings are even more dramatic in person. She is always on the hunt for rabbits on our walking trails so has a pretty strong prey drive and probably needs a home with no cats. Channing has done well running alongside other dogs in our dog runs. Her DNA test revealed she is German Shepherd, Siberian Husky, Swiss Shepherd, Chow, and Malamute! Come check out Channing and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment. An adoption application will be required from those interested in providing a fab furever home to Channing. Please call us at (707) 464-7235 for additional information. Story
Meet Catari! This little lady is under a year old and weighs 47 lbs. She is starting to get over some of her initial shyness, and as you can see, she is gorgeous. She enjoys her time snuggling with humans…big humans…little humans. She passed her cat test and is dog friendly. She liked spending girl time with another young female dog and will be introduced into a play yard soon. Catari is still full of puppy shenanigans, and has a puppy-like play style, so her family needs to be prepared to do some training. She is eager-to-please and ready to train into the dog of your dreams! Come check out Catari our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Story
Meet Othos! He's a big, goofy guy that likes to have fun. Othos has liked all the people & dogs that he has met here. He also likes to play fetch and go for long walks. Othos weighs about 86 lbs, and is approximately 2 years old. He knows a few basic commands and passed his cat test, but proved to be a little too cat curious in a home environment. Othos also loved meeting kids, but will need to be supervised around smaller children because he IS big and likes to be as close as possible! Update on Othos! He was able to go into a home for several days so we could find out more about him. He is housebroken and enjoys riding in a vehicle. He can be protective of the car if someone gets too close. He is very strong and will also need a secure yard with nothing near the fence to be able to jump and get over to play with the neighbors dog uninvited. Othos is very strong and needs some additional work on leash manners. He loves to be loved and to chill with his people. He has been DNA tested, his results are on our Dogs of Del Norte County FB page. Othos also got a field trip to the beach. This was the report back…”he can easily load into the bed of a truck and travels well, was extremely happy to have the wind in his face. He enjoys human attention and allows you to pet and rub him throughout his body. Othos has zero problem with walking into the water and actually looked like he wanted to play in the surf. He likes to mark territory and wants to travel with his nose to the ground, control of the head will be key to good walks. Othos is strong and took quite a bit of redirecting to get him to walk along my side and after a while he started to settle in on his walk. He is laser focused on other dogs in public and will need a capable handler to redirect his attention to the task at hand. Only praise and petting were used for training purposes.” Come check out Othos and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment. An adoption application will be required from those interested in providing a fab furever home to Othos. Story
Meet Ryder! He's a handsome 3 year old shepherd mix, weighing in at 72 lbs. Don't judge him by his kennel presentation, he transforms into a different dog once he's out of his kennel. Ryder does well on a leash and tries to keep his kennel clean! He also knows "sit" & "down!" Ryder can be dog reactive, so would likely do best as your one and only. He enjoys pets and really "leans" into it! One of our handlers took him away from the Pound for a field trip. This is what she had to say. “This guy is able to load into the bed of a truck and rides well. He was very happy to have the wind in his face. He showed high energy at first, but after just a few minutes of redirection walked calmly by my side. Ryder looks to have had some basic obedience training, picked up on hand signals very quickly, listened to the leash when redirecting and sitting. When jogging, his pace is perfectly in step with the runner, running partner extraordinaire! He’s excited to meet new people, but calms quickly (even allowed a perfect stranger to give him the biggest bear hug around the neck) and will sit or lay by your side when chatting with others. Pretty excited about other dogs, but sat quietly with new dog about 6’ away while socializing with people. Very interested in the birds and probably would have chased if not on lead. Ryder also likes to mark territory, males, go figure. ? Ryder has energy, but it is very controllable. He’s very intelligent, could see agility course in his future.” Ryder also got to go to a training hour with James Worley of Milspeck9. See pics & video on the Dogs of Del Norte County FB page! Come check out Ryder and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment. Story
Meet Wyatt! He's an adult German Shepherd type of guy. Wyatt is a little shy, at first, but can be quite talkative! He's treat-motivated, and pretty good on a leash. Wyatt weighs in just over 85lbs. He also enjoys a nice game of fetch, when he's feeling playful! His former owner raised him since he was a puppy, he was five years old when he came to the Pound under unfortunate circumstances. Wyatt was heartbroken his owner didn't come to get him, and cried for several months. Wyatt didn't want to make friends even though the volunteers and staff tried very hard to comfort him. After awhile, he seemed to realize his owner wasn't coming for him and started making friends with people and dogs. His favorite things are running alongside other dogs in the ball run, and can probably outrun all of them. Wyatt also has a lot of fun playing keep away with a ball when he's in the big corral! Come check out Wyatt and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment.
