Story
Skippy - as I call her Skippers - is the sweetest german shepherd. So precious, so misunderstood. She has a anxious tick of chomping the air, and has thus been misunderstood. She was abandoned and in my foster care for the past 6 months. She's a sweetheart who is a "backend dog" - a dog that alerts the rest of the pack of any cues or danger. She is by nature more anxious, but she is gentle, loving and enjoys being on her own as well as with other dogs and people. Skippy would thrive in a home without other high energy dogs or young pups, and with people able to love her for who she is and her anxiousness, including her anxious tick. Skippy is connected to a certified trainer that I work with who is committed to working with Skippy's adopter on any training to help Skippy calm down her anxiety. In the right environment, with a forever family committed to her no matter what, Skippy will be a calm, thriving happy dog. She's ready to meet her parents!

Meet Axel, a spirited 5-year-old Lab/Shepherd/Aussie mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love. Axel is an active and playful dog who thrives on companionship with other dogs, so having a furry friend around would be perfect for him. While Axel is dog-friendly, he can be a bit nervous around new people and prefers not to make direct eye contact. To ensure everyone's safety, he should wear a muzzle when meeting new folks. With the right approach and time, Axel reveals his affectionate and playful side, becoming a loyal and protective companion. Axel needs a dedicated and experienced dog owner who can provide firm training and a bit of extra care. He was rescued just an hour before his scheduled euthanasia and is eager to find a loving, active home where he can truly shine.

Story
Sarah just loves WATER! She jumps into the large 40 gallon water buckets we have and just lays in them lol She does not like being left outside during the day but enjoys playing with Bear when the temperatures cool down. She loves other dogs and it would be nice for her to have playmates. She learns quickly and kennels herself when it's time for the small dogs to come outside and play. She has not clue how big she is so we can't let her play with small dogs as she tackles even dogs her size. Sarah is an owner surrender :( She is young energetic and shy. She's had a hard week having to leave the only family she's known. She's already been to the vet and is currently recovering from being spayed. I'm sure we will see more of her personality as she starts to decompress. To apply go to rocknpawzrescue.com and Download the application and return it to rocknpawzrescue@gmail.com

Dodger is being cared for an older woman who rescued him from going into the shelter, but she cannot keep him. He is way too big for her, sometimes pulls on her leash. She does not have a yard for him. He loves everyone but he will lunge at some dogs while walking. His pet sitter takes him to her house where he can run and play with her dogs. He loves cats. He would be good with older kids because of his size. Apx 70 lbs. He is a beauty. Would you love Dodger and give him the home he deserves? Please leave your phone number so Dianna, his rescuer can call you.

Story
Meet Milo! A spirited nine-year-old German Shepherd mix from Oakland, CA, whose zest for life and love for people is as vibrant as his handsome black-and-tan coat. Despite his senior status, Milo is a healthy, energetic soul often mistaken for a much younger dog, thanks to his good health and love for hiking, walking, and showing off his impressive training skills. This big-hearted guy is a wonderful training buddy, highly food-motivated, and already a pro at cues like “sit,” “down,” “spin,” “wait,” “leave it,” and even the nifty “fix your paw!” If you’re someone who loves bonding through training, Milo will be right by your side, eager to learn and thrilled to show you just how clever he can be! Day-to-day, Milo is a mellow companion who spends much of his time snoozing but is always ready to hit the trails or take a stroll around the neighborhood. He’s polite on the leash and a calm friend to strangers and other dogs he meets while out and about. At home, Milo’s love for people is equally big, though he can get a little overexcited with new visitors, welcoming them with an enthusiastic greeting that sometimes involves a lot of face-licking! After an hour or so, he settles down and becomes a cozy, loyal cuddle buddy, happy to be a constant companion who sticks by your side. Milo’s protective instincts make him a fantastic guard dog, though he’s not overly reactive like some canines in this role. If there’s an unusual noise in the middle of the night, like a door handle rattling, Milo will bolt up and let out a series of big, confident barks to let you know something’s up. On one memorable occasion, his growls and alarm barks turned out to be aimed at a curious raccoon peeking through the window! Despite his alertness, Milo has a great sense of judgment and doesn’t bark unnecessarily. Plus, he’s unbothered by fireworks or other loud noises, staying calm when many dogs might lose their cool. Milo does get anxious around young children and would feel most comfortable in a home without babies or toddlers. However, he’s quite content and relaxed around older kids and adults, especially those who understand his need for calm introductions and consistent routines. He’s fine with short or long absences and is an easygoing fellow who’s housetrained, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Milo isn’t a fan of cats and can be selective with dogs, so he’d be happiest as your one-and-only four-legged friend, or possibly with a compatible dog friend. If you’re searching for a loving, trainable, loyal companion with a playful side and a protective streak, Milo might just be your perfect match! Are you ready to invite this affectionate, well-mannered adventurer into your life? Contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Milo, your future best buddy!

Story
Meet Danny! A lively four-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd from Peoria, AZ, who is equal parts charm and energy wrapped in a striking black-and-tan coat. With her impressive 70-pound frame and soulful eyes, Danny is the quintessential loyal companion, ready to fill her new family’s life with laughter, play, and love! Danny is a true athlete at heart—fetch is her ultimate joy, and she’ll play tirelessly until your arm needs a break. Her Bark Box toys are her prized treasures, and after a busy day of play, she’s happiest curling up at your feet, her loyal presence warming your heart. While she hasn’t had formal training, she’s already a pro at commands like “sit,” “outside,” and “mimi’s” (her cue for kennel time). She’s a quick learner and thrives with positive reinforcement, so a little time invested in training will go a long way. This playful girl is friendly with strangers and adores young children, making her a wonderful addition to an active family. She’s selective about her canine companions, so a home without large dogs (or with a well-matched smaller dog) would suit her best. While she hasn’t had much interaction with cats, her adaptable nature leaves the door open for careful introductions. Danny’s routine is straightforward: she eats once a day, enjoys regular exercise, and rests comfortably in her crate when left alone. A home with a fenced yard is essential for her to safely channel her high energy, and a pet parent who enjoys runs or long walks will find a perfect partner in Danny. Though her stomach is a bit sensitive, her current diet keeps her happy and healthy. Vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and house-trained, Danny is ready to transition seamlessly into a new loving home. She needs a family willing to embrace her zest for life and keep her active and engaged. Are you ready to make Danny part of your family and embark on endless games of fetch and heartwarming companionship? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet this remarkable girl who’s waiting to be your next best friend!
