Killara is available through our `Adopt From a Foster Home` program. Please email adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in scheduling a meeting. Please do not make an appointment through our online booking calendar, as Killara is not available to meet on site.Age: 2 years oldWeight: 30.4kg / 67lbA little bit about Killara:- Unknown history living with children. Reported to interact with children without noted concern. - Potential for home with cats. Reported to live previous with two cats.- Unknown history living with another dog. Reported to have played with other dogs however does struggle with reactivity while on leash which may make introductions to other dogs difficult. Potential for select dog in home pending successful D2D.Say hello to Killara, a clever German Shepherd mix who is as smart as she is sweet. This lovely girl already knows a long list of commands, including “sit,” “stay,” “lay down,” “shake a paw,” “go to your crate,” “no,” “off,” “leave it,” and even “where’s your toy?” She’s crate-trained and has lived with cats before, so she may do well with dog-savvy feline friends after careful introductions.Killara does struggle with leash reactivity, which means she gets overstimulated or frustrated when she sees other dogs while she is on a leash. This can cause barking or pulling, but with positive reinforcement and guidance from our staff, adopters can help her manage this behavior. Despite her leash reactivity, Killara may thrive with a compatible dog sibling. The shelter environment has been overwhelming for her, but her affectionate nature shines through. Killara is ready to find a loving home where she can relax, continue learning, and share her big heart. Could she be your next best friend?

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This independant boy will be best matched with an adult only home or a home with older teenage children (depending on the family). We would highly recommend him to be an acreage or farm dog but feel that he would also do well in the city. He will need daily leash walks until he learns a recall and is bonded to his new family in which then he could be a candidate for off-leash parks. We would highly recommend a basic manners class or private training depending on the experience of his adoption family. He is a sociable boy but doens`t like to be fussed over. Loves to hang out with his people and stay close to them for petting and companionship.
