Story
This is Sergio! He's got a story to tell... He was found on the side of the road-just about to give up when a caring passerby stopped to help him. After a trip to the vet with his 'finder', it was determined that his femur was out of the socket. After arriving at the shelter and having a more thorough vet examination, it was determined that he also had 'pellets' several places in his body. Fast forward 6 weeks-He's had his surgery and is doing great. In fact, he is quite spunky and is regaining the use of his leg more each day. Since he's been in 'rehab quarantine', he needs a little catching up with his social skills, but no doubt he'll get there. Please contact the shelter if you'd like more information on adopting. --See more on all the ODCHS pets on our Facebook page: Ozark-Dale County Humane Society

Story
Franklin is a 4-5 year old German Shepherd mix weighing in at 83 lbs. This boy may be big but he is sensitive and emotional. Franklin is very in tune with human emotions, he will do everything he can to cheer you up when sad, comfort you when stressed and give you company when you are lonely. Franklin loves to play and would enjoy playing with a furry friend. His wonky ear is most likely due to a past injury but it does not bother him one bit. Franklin is just the sweetest goodest boy who loves everybody. Franklin has perfected his doggy manners, he is crate, leash, potty and dog door trained. Good with dogs and kids and loves belly rubs. Very food driven so who knows maybe this older dog can learn new tricks. Franklin wants to be with his people all the time, he does have a little bit of separation anxiety (whines) so someone home majority of the time is ideal. A securely fenced in yard is preferred in Franklin's new home. A beautiful soft coat and a wonky ear, this one of a kind guy is ready to find his person. Will you be Franklin's emotional support human? All of our animals are fully vetted which includes spay/neuter, up to date on vaccines, wormed, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention and microchipped) prior to adoption. HI, I AM TRUDY.  I COULD BE THE BEST PRESENT YOU WILL EVER GET AND YOU COULD BE THE BEST PRESENT I WILL EVER GET BY GIVING ME A PERMANENT FOREVER HOME. I AM 1/2 TO 3/4 GERMAN SHEPHERD AND 8 MONTHS OLD. I HAVE HAD ALL MY SHOTS AND FIXED AND READY TO GO FOR YOU. MY FOSTER PARENTS LOVE ME AND I HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS. WHEN I WAS LITTLE SOMEONE WAS NOT GOOD TO ME AND I AM BLIND IN ONE EYE. SO I AM A SPECIAL NEEDS DOG, YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT WITH ME. I NEED A WELL FENCED YARD AND LOTS OF LOVE AND ATTENTION. I LOVE EVERYONE AND EVERYBODY. GIVE ME A GOOD HOME AND I WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND. THANKS. TRUDY Trudy is a special pup.  She is very friendly and loving and she likes for you to sit down so she can crawl in your lap.  She wants to play with her foster siblings but they aren't really interested.   We don't know Trudy's background, but she has some slight physical limitations.  She can be walked on a harness but not with a collar.  She is sensitive to anesthesia and she is blind in one eye so may startle easy when approached from that side.  Other than that, Trudy is just a loving pup who needs a furever home.        October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm

Rubin is a young adult male. If you are a hermit who lives at the lake, Rubin might be the dog for you.  He loves to play in the water and he is very sweet but he is very anxious around new people and changes in his routine or environment.  He does not do well in a car.   He is very sweet and smart.  Rubin will need continued exposure to new things and socialization to keep him outgoing and not anxious or scared.  He does well with other dogs, he likes to play with them but sometimes he will test his canine friends.  He is probably not good with cats. Update 2/1/24.  Rubin is doing better around new people.  He has also been out in the yard with small dogs as well as the big dogs.  He gets excited with the little ones but they put him in his place and he leaves them alone.  He generally doesn't get into anything when loose in the house unless it's yummy left overs, then he might be tempted.  He is doing better about getting in the car.  Once he will get in the car, we will work on road trips.  It's a slow process but it is rewarding to see him work through some of his anxiety. He truly is a people dog.  He will also let you know if one of the other dogs needs to go out.  If they bark, he will bark louder to let you know.  Rubin is a comical dog, if you don't have a sense of humor and patience, he is not the dog for you.   Rubin is working hard to overcome his nerves.    October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm

I am ready to move on to contribute to a happy family. I am still pretty young. Because cause my before is a mystery, we don't know my real age but my foster mum believes I am under 2. My foster mum, I call her FM, says I act like a puppy because I probably didn't get to before. I am a very active guy, so would really like a companion I could run or bike or hike with. Hikes would be fun. I respect fences. FM says it is good i am not an escape artist because I love to be out in my yard. I watch everything but I only bark for important things. I get excited when the horses come into view. I would like to get to know them but FM will not let me. She says I need more training and emotional control before I am ready. I guess she is right. I do not seem to have learned a lot when I was younger so there is still a lot I have to work on. But the plusses are that I am smart and willing. I am motivated both by food and attention. I love my "work" time with FM. I am at a place where I want to form that strong GSD bond. I can do the beginning stages of a lot of things. I am working on all the basic beginner's obedience moves. I have decent house manners but FM says I still need some mindfulness. I sleep quietly in my crate but, of course, I would rather be outside anyway. I am not aggressive to anyone. Not other dogs, or that snotty cat, or my vet, or kids, or anyone. While I will let you know if I see a stranger, I know that's just a friend I haven't met yet. Will you be my new forever friend or happy family? October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm
