Story
Nala is a 2-year-old female German Shepherd mix who has already been spayed.  She came to PAHS in early October as a stray found out in the county.  Three days later Nala had puppies.  She was a very devoted mother to her babies.  Three were adopted at Prattville PetSmart last week; and two are currently still available.  Nala has brown coat with black markings; and she weighs 47 pounds.  She is not as big as a typical German Shepherd.  This girl is such a sweet and loving girl.  Nala would be amazing in a home with other dogs and children.  Please come and meet Nala; you will fall in love with her sweet disposition.  We just can't say enough about what a nice dog she is.  Nala deserves a loving family and forever home where she will be treated like the queen that she is!Dog/puppy adoption fees are $100.  Cat/kitten adoption fees are $50.  December 20, 2024, 8:15 am

Story
Hidy do! I’m Dingo! I am a handsome boy that is looking for a new home! I had a home that I loved, but my owner just ran out of time for me. So I am on the search for a new home and family to love. I am a one-year-old shepherd mix. I have all of my vaccinations, I have a microchip, and I have been neutered. One little problem did show up on my health check up. It seems that I am heartworm positive. I am not worried! The shelter already has my treatment scheduled! Say maybe you could foster me through my treatment and then make me a “permanent” member of your family!

HI, I AM TRUDY.  I COULD BE THE BEST PRESENT YOU WILL EVER GET AND YOU COULD BE THE BEST PRESENT I WILL EVER GET BY GIVING ME A PERMANENT FOREVER HOME. I AM 1/2 TO 3/4 GERMAN SHEPHERD AND 8 MONTHS OLD. I HAVE HAD ALL MY SHOTS AND FIXED AND READY TO GO FOR YOU. MY FOSTER PARENTS LOVE ME AND I HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS. WHEN I WAS LITTLE SOMEONE WAS NOT GOOD TO ME AND I AM BLIND IN ONE EYE. SO I AM A SPECIAL NEEDS DOG, YOU HAVE TO BE PATIENT WITH ME. I NEED A WELL FENCED YARD AND LOTS OF LOVE AND ATTENTION. I LOVE EVERYONE AND EVERYBODY. GIVE ME A GOOD HOME AND I WILL BE YOUR BEST FRIEND. THANKS. TRUDY Trudy is a special pup.  She is very friendly and loving and she likes for you to sit down so she can crawl in your lap.  She wants to play with her foster siblings but they aren't really interested.   We don't know Trudy's background, but she has some slight physical limitations.  She can be walked on a harness but not with a collar.  She is sensitive to anesthesia and she is blind in one eye so may startle easy when approached from that side.  Other than that, Trudy is just a loving pup who needs a furever home.        October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm

Rubin is a young adult male. If you are a hermit who lives at the lake, Rubin might be the dog for you.  He loves to play in the water and he is very sweet but he is very anxious around new people and changes in his routine or environment.  He does not do well in a car.   He is very sweet and smart.  Rubin will need continued exposure to new things and socialization to keep him outgoing and not anxious or scared.  He does well with other dogs, he likes to play with them but sometimes he will test his canine friends.  He is probably not good with cats. Update 2/1/24.  Rubin is doing better around new people.  He has also been out in the yard with small dogs as well as the big dogs.  He gets excited with the little ones but they put him in his place and he leaves them alone.  He generally doesn't get into anything when loose in the house unless it's yummy left overs, then he might be tempted.  He is doing better about getting in the car.  Once he will get in the car, we will work on road trips.  It's a slow process but it is rewarding to see him work through some of his anxiety. He truly is a people dog.  He will also let you know if one of the other dogs needs to go out.  If they bark, he will bark louder to let you know.  Rubin is a comical dog, if you don't have a sense of humor and patience, he is not the dog for you.   Rubin is working hard to overcome his nerves.    October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm

I am ready to move on to contribute to a happy family. I am still pretty young. Because cause my before is a mystery, we don't know my real age but my foster mum believes I am under 2. My foster mum, I call her FM, says I act like a puppy because I probably didn't get to before. I am a very active guy, so would really like a companion I could run or bike or hike with. Hikes would be fun. I respect fences. FM says it is good i am not an escape artist because I love to be out in my yard. I watch everything but I only bark for important things. I get excited when the horses come into view. I would like to get to know them but FM will not let me. She says I need more training and emotional control before I am ready. I guess she is right. I do not seem to have learned a lot when I was younger so there is still a lot I have to work on. But the plusses are that I am smart and willing. I am motivated both by food and attention. I love my "work" time with FM. I am at a place where I want to form that strong GSD bond. I can do the beginning stages of a lot of things. I am working on all the basic beginner's obedience moves. I have decent house manners but FM says I still need some mindfulness. I sleep quietly in my crate but, of course, I would rather be outside anyway. I am not aggressive to anyone. Not other dogs, or that snotty cat, or my vet, or kids, or anyone. While I will let you know if I see a stranger, I know that's just a friend I haven't met yet. Will you be my new forever friend or happy family? October 27, 2024, 12:57 pm

Jimmy Buffet (aka Slim Jim) was turned out in a neighborhood after his owner got sick and had to move.  He has a longer road ahead of him to be ready for adoption because he has to regain weight and body condition before he can be treated for heartworms. Update 8/22/24  Jimmy has completed his HW treatment.  We are still getting to know him but he seems to be crate trained and doesn't bark a lot.   He is a friendly dog. One thing we do know is that he LOVES running water.  He will chase the spray from a hose or jump into any running water. Jimmy would love a home at the beach or at the lake so he could chase the waves.  December 16, 2024, 12:04 pm
