We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
We rescued Fraggle from a local shelter after hearing he had been there over a month with a severely broken leg hoping to be rescued. Unfortunately, he was brought in by someone who had found him injured so we really don't know what happened but we had no choice but to amputate his right hind leg. He is now a happy, playful boy looking for LOVE! Fraggle is neutered, HW tested negative, UTD on all required vaccines and microchipped. Fraggle enjoys life and likes everyone! Two and Four legged! If you would like to bring this special guy into your family and give him the love and life he deserves, please email omlc7@hotmail.com or dogs4mylife@gmail.com and we will send our info and application. If you do not see a response, please check your spam folder. Video available

Story
Meet Choco: The Mighty Frenchie Dynamo! If you’re looking for a tiny but mighty bundle of joy, meet Choco—the French bulldog equivalent of a firecracker! This 30-pound, one-year -old powerhouse is packed with energy and charm, and he’s on a mission to dominate your heart (and possibly the local dog park).Choco is a high-energy adventurer who believes that every day is a new opportunity to play, run, and earn some serious belly rubs. Friendly with people (he’s practically a canine social butterfly), Choco does have a particular taste in friends. He’s dog-selective and prefers to be the king of his castle, but don’t worry; he plays well with submissive pals who recognize his royal demeanor!Though he sports a cleft palate, Choco’s eating skills are nothing short of impressive, and his condition doesn’t hold him back one bit. He’s neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all his vaccines—essentially, he’s ready to party!Choco’s motto is simple: “A tired Choco is a happy Choco!” So, prepare yourself for long walks, epic play sessions, and all the training fun you can handle. With a little guidance, he’s eager to become the best version of himself. Are you ready to embrace the chaos and cuteness that is Choco? Story
MEET CANDY CANE: Age: 4 years  Weight: 34 lbs  Breed: French Bulldog/American Bully Mix   Found as a stray and never reclaimed, Candy Cane is now ready to find her forever home where she can share her boundless love and energy! Candy Cane is an affectionate and spirited girl with a muscular low-rider build. She is full of life and ready to make every day an adventure! With her playful personality, Candy Cane is like a bull in a china shop! She thrives on activity and play, making her a perfect companion for someone who leads an active lifestyle.   She enjoys meeting other dogs and would love a playful companion. However, her playful energy is best suited for larger, tolerant canine friends that can match her energy; smaller dogs and cats are not recommended.   This sweet girl has a lot of love to give and thrives on human interaction, so she’s looking for a family that can return that affection!   A securely fenced yard is essential for her safety and well-being, as she loves to roam and play. Apartment or mobile home living would not be suitable for her energetic nature.   She is currently learning crate training and working on perfecting her house manners, so a patient family willing to guide her is key.   Candy Cane thrives on companionship and interaction, so she is not suited for a tether system. Candy Cane is best suited for an active person or family who can match her energy and provide the love and attention she deserves. She'd do well in a home without very young children, given her exuberant nature, and is not recommended for a home with felines. Are you ready to bring this energetic sweetheart into your life? Candy Cane is waiting for her perfect match!  Candy Cane is:Current on Rabies and DistemperDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedScheduled for spay surgery at our partner Veterinary office in Chesterfield.ADOPTION FEE: $300 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. Story
Champ A17087460 lb. neutered male, approx 3 years old -This handsome fella is amazing and sweet!-He’s very scared and timid here but finds comfort being near you for pets-He lifts up his paw and puts it near you a little when he wants more attention-He didn’t take any treats from me. He did lick them from my hand but that was about it.-He got a quick bath and did great! He was really tolerant and good for all of it.-Walks great on a leash-He just needs to build some confidence and learn how to be a dog-I think he’ll be an amazing boy in time!-He could really benefit from a patient adopter/foster to give him time and space to be the best he can be!-Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper introsUnknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids•Meet all of our adoptable pets on our website friendsofdacc.org/adopt •Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. •Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. •There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. •To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** •The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30 BUT our adoptions are done 7 days a week from 10:30am -3:00pm. •The last potential adopter must arrive before 3:00 pm so we have time to properly help you before closing. **1431 E Ferry St. Detroit
