Story
Introducing Stitch! This handsome boy came to AFRP after he was brought to a local animal hospital for help with a prolapsed rectum. Now, fully recovered he's seeking out his furever home! While he's a looker, Stitch is quite a special boy who requires very specific adopters! Stitch is quite a goofy pup, and with that comes a few quirks; he is dog reactive and although he is working through it with positive training he would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard at this time as well as with potential adopters who have experience with reactive pups. Stitch is also obsessed with being the center of attention and it shows! This means no other animals can be in the home, he wants to be the only pup in your heart! He's a bundle of fun and loves to play with his toys, especially any kind of ball. Stitch is looking for an adopter who has experience with brachycephalic breeds (flat-faced dogs) and understands their continued needs, and possible added medical care. These adorable pups can be a bit more costly! Stitch comes with pre-registration for one-on-one classes to help with his exposure to other dogs and general basic obedience. He will also do best in an adult-only household. Due to these requirements, Stitch may only be adopted to applicants living in Monterey County or surrounding areas (Santa Cruz, etc.). He is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be scheduled once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for an online application.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $250 Jenga's adoption fee has been partially sponsored by a generous donor! Jenga is a 3 year old French Bulldog who we rescued from the local shelter. A cold kennel is no place for such a handsome guy like Jenga! This dude is all the best parts of the Frenchie breed. Those who know and love Frenchies should look no further than Jenga. We will be prioritizing homes who have experience with this type of breed and are aware of their health concerns. Jenga has seen an eye specialist and is blind in one eye and is missing partial vision in the other. He still sees enough not to bump into things. To be honest, he’s so confident that it took us a few months to notice he couldn’t see too well, which says a lot about him! He doesn’t let a little thing like vision stop him from living his best life. The eye issue is not congential but rather a lack of care. He has damage to the corneas from an injury. Poor dude never got the help he needed to protect his eyes. It does give him a bit of a funny look, but we think it's adorable! Below is a note from Jenga’s foster.  Jenga is a very sweet dog who would love nothing more than to curl up on your lap and snuggle the day away. He sometimes gets the absolute funniest zoomies when he needs to get bursts of energy out, but he is a total couch potato. Unlike any other dog I have ever fostered, Jenga seems to know when screens are in front of him and loves to show off for attention on Zoom calls, which is a truly amazing skill for a dog who can’t see very well. When the camera calls, it calls!  He is just such a character.  Jenga wakes up around 8 AM and goes for a morning walk about half an hour later. He gets breakfast at 9 AM. When I work from home. he loves to cuddle next to me on the couch or take naps on the floor nearby. He gets another walk at around 6:30 PM and then gets his dinner. He goes to bed with me around 11:30 PM.  Jenga walks very well on the leash. He loves to sniff all the good smells out there and show off his amazing looks to his adoring public. Due to his vision issues, Jenga would do best as a solo dog in his forever home, as he startles easily when he is surprised. This distinguished gentleman is looking for his throne and we promised we’d deliver him one! Jenga is only an option for those who have prior dog experience, with priority given to those who understand the Frenchie breed. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7. November 2, 2024, 6:03 pm

We truly appreciate folks who are helping us try to get some of our Sticky Dogs into new homes! Are you considering Gidget, but just not sure if she's the right match? How about a Foster to Adopt for a few days to see how she fits in? We would love to see her find a new home and if it takes a few days to fall in love, we are open. Gidget is a 9 year old French Bulldog who is ready to live her golden years in style! Gidget was surrendered to the shelter when her former home decided she was too old for them and they wanted a new puppy instead. Well, we think that Gidget is absolutely fabulous the way she is and we told her that when we scooped her out of her kennel. Gidget is 17.8 pounds of love, snores, and Frenchie goodness. Even though she’s older, you wouldn’t know it by the way she lives her life to the fullest every day! We will be seeking a home who has experience with the Frenchie, or similar flat faced breeds, to ensure Gidget lives the rest of her life like the Queen she is!    Gidget is a sweet and loving gal who is looking for her new best friend! She doesn’t let a little thing like a few gray hairs stop her from romping around the neighborhood for walks and the house for playtime. Gidget loves being part of the action and wants to be in on all the inside jokes between her people. While she is independent when she needs to be, she also loves cuddles and kisses. If you love being drooled on by a Frenchie as a sign of love, sign Gidget up for the job! Gidget loves belly rubs and treats more than life itself and she will be your loyal companion if you promise her unlimited access. Gidget has a sense of adventure and loves sniffing around the world as she explores. Gidget is a total sweetheart and will make a great new addition to her lucky forever family. Gidget is a perfect mix of energetic and ready for a nap. She has bursts where she wants to zoom around, followed by a long nap full of snores. Gidget is Miss Personality and she can’t wait to win you over from minute one!  Gidget starts her day at 8 AM (but would happily sleep in as late as you let her) with a quick morning walk after some cuddles. Once she comes home, she gets breakfast at 9 AM, which she grazes at throughout the morning and early afternoon. Gidget spends her morning napping in the sun or keeping herself occupied with her favorite toys, which are currently anything chewy or squeaky. Gidget is very independent and can keep herself occupied when she needs to. She’s a fabulous work from home companion. In the afternoon, Gidget gets another walk where she goes potty and then spends some more time napping. After dinner at 6 PM, Gidget gets a longer walk before she settles in for some TV and cuddle time. After one last potty trip, Gidget heads to bed in her crate at 10:30 PM.  Gidget is a one dog only kind of gal. She gets along with other dogs after a good introduction, but she would prefer to be your one and only. She knows she’s a star! Gidget walks fabulously on a leash as long as you let her get her sniffing on! Gidget is mostly house trained and is good at spending time in her crate. She would be a fit for almost any size house as long as there is space for her toys! Don’t let this amazing pup pass you by, adopt Gidget!  Gidget is an option for any home and if there are children that are over the age of 5.November 2, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
Linus is part of Charlie Brown Litter. Holly mom is French Bull Dog /Boston Terrier mix. 2/16/24 DNA test results: Dad was a Cattle Dog 40% and 9% Border Collie. They should be medium size adults and smart. Holly was abandoned at a distant shelter and was very pregnant. Linus' DOB: 12/1/23. Once we rescued Holly and she arrived at her foster home within 2 hours she went into labor and gave birth to 5 puppies. 2 girls and 3 boys. Whew! Just in time. All the pups and mom did great at their foster home. Home raised healthy lovable and social. The 5 pups are now learning at their next foster home for puppy training. All are playful snuggly and lovable. We do not know what they are mixed with. They seem larger than Frenchie pups and have tails. We will start to review applications Jan 20th. Puppies will be 8 weeks old on Jan. 27th and will get their first vaccinations and deworm. Need home with attached backyard. More info. to come on each puppy's personality. 1/24/24 Update: The 3 boys are fairly similar all playful and slower than the girls. Linus and Snoopy are a little more timid but get more playful when riled up by Brody. All love attention and to be held. They all did very well getting their first shots and these puppies are extremely smart and well behaved for such young puppies. They are learning sit and not to bite and are all doing very very well. They will make wonderful family pets for someone. Their temperament is fantastic gentle playful and sweet. 2/9/24 Update 10 weeks old: Patty is definitely the smallest with smallest paws. Snoopy and Linus are about the same size 12 pounds and Patty is 10 lbs.. I think they will be medium sized dogs. Snoopy and Linus are slower and calmer. Patty is spunky and more independent and curious and a little more Frenchie personality . All learning crate training. Few accidents on pee pads now. They will hold to go out to backyard for potty biz. 3/15/24 Need foster home for one on one puppy training and socials.November 2, 2024, 12:54 pm
