Story
Sweet little Emma`s been a real trooper. Emma arrived with an injured eye that had to be removed but she`s made a quick recovery. We believe she lived a very confined life because she`s quite nervous in open spaces. Even with all that, Emma is affectionate, curious, and willing to explore her surroundings with some gentle guidance. It takes just a few minutes - and maybe a few treats - to befriend this beautiful girl. After making friends with staff, she enjoyed dog stroller trips around the shelter and spending quite morning hours with staff at the front desk. Emma has also spent time with some other small dog residents, though she didn`t feel up to playing at that time. We`d like for Emma to be adopted by someone who will take the time to introduce her to their home and the greater world at a pace that is comfortable for her.

Story
Introducing Stitch! This handsome boy came to AFRP after he was brought to a local animal hospital for help with a prolapsed rectum. Now, fully recovered he's seeking out his furever home! While he's a looker, Stitch is quite a special boy who requires very specific adopters! Stitch is quite a goofy pup, and with that comes a few quirks; he is dog reactive and although he is working through it with positive training he would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard at this time as well as with potential adopters who have experience with reactive pups. Stitch is also obsessed with being the center of attention and it shows! This means no other animals can be in the home, he wants to be the only pup in your heart! He's a bundle of fun and loves to play with his toys, especially any kind of ball. Stitch is looking for an adopter who has experience with brachycephalic breeds (flat-faced dogs) and understands their continued needs, and possible added medical care. These adorable pups can be a bit more costly! Stitch comes with pre-registration for one-on-one classes to help with his exposure to other dogs and general basic obedience. His adoption does come with 2 free training sessions with his current trainer. Due to these requirements, Stitch may only be adopted to applicants living in Monterey County or surrounding areas (Santa Cruz, etc.). He will also do best in an adult-only household. He is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be scheduled once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for an online application.

Story
Looks like: French Bulldog Male, 8 years old (estimated), 26 pounds There's a lot to love about George, but the best thing might just be how much he loves the world. May we all learn to see the world through George's eyes! This stout sweetheart just adores everyone he meets, whether they be adults, children, or other furry critters like him. George is looking for a companion who lets him explore the world, from car rides to walks to parks to caf's. Basically, if you're allowed to take a dog somewhere, he hopes you take him with you! While George is looking for a forever best friend who wants to take him out for adventures, he doesn't seem to be showing signs of separation anxiety, and he's totally cool staying home, too! He just doesn't like missing out on adventures, as he seems to have a classic case of FOMO! George currently has mid-to-low energy levels, and he has been having trouble eating and drinking, which we're working to address. He may require follow-up with our clinic. Hopefully, he'll soon have more of that classic Frenchie energy you just gotta love! This adorable little guy joined us from Hitchcock Road Animal Services after he was picked up as a stray.

If you don’t know what an Atari is, congratulations—you’re probably too young to have blown on a game cartridge to make it work. But don’t worry, because this Atari is here to bring some retro charm into your life, no gaming knowledge required! Atari is a 3 year old (Born 11/3/21), 22-pound French Bulldog with a heart as big as an arcade jackpot. She’s got the perfect balance of playful and chill—she’ll engage in a quick round of tug-of-war with her beloved fish toy but is happiest when she’s cozied up next to you, enjoying snuggles and (ideally) unlimited belly rubs. A true couch potato at heart, she’s more of a 'press start to continue napping' kind of gal than an athlete, but she’s always game for a leisurely walk. In fact, she’s fantastic on a leash, sticking right by your feet like she’s programmed to follow your every move. This little joystick of joy loves her people and wants to be someone’s “Pretty Pretty Princess” (yes, that’s an actual retro game). She's okay with passing other dogs but would prefer to be the only pup in the home. Cats? Unknown. Kids? She’s been totally fine with the neighborhood children who’ve stopped to say hello! Atari is crate-trained, mostly housetrained, and has a superpower rare among Frenchies—she’s a quiet girl! Instead of barking, she expresses herself through the classic Frenchie snorts, grunts, and wiggles. She also travels like a champ, hopping into the car and snoozing the whole ride. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, high-loyalty companion, Atari is ready to be your Player One. Just be warned: once you start this game, you’ll never want to press pause! March 14, 2025, 12:52 am
