AKYLI ! This beauty is 10 months old (Sept) and 45 pounds. She is sister to Opie James (boy), also up for adoption! They are both sweet and pretty chill for puppies but a bit shy with humans they do not know. Akyli would do best in a home with another dog or her brother Opie James !! ***Special needs. She was hit by a car and had several hip surgeries. She needs joint supplements and may eventually need some support for her back and in the form of a wheelchair support vehicle!*** Meet Jenny! Jenny is a 2-3-year-old foxhound, whippet, pointer and jack Russell terrier mix!! She was hit with a hit by a car within the first year of her life. She was turned over to a shelter in South Carolina who contacted us because we are well-known to help with special mobility needs dogs. Of course, we said yes. Jenny has endured two hip surgeries, on the same side of her hip for both of them. The first surgery was a female femoral head osteotomy commonly known as an FHO. The surgeon removed the head of her femur and made a pocket in the hit muscle as a replacement. She also removed many bone fragments as well. It took Jenny nearly a year to recover from the first surgery and then it was determined she needed another! The second surgery seem to do the trick and removed a lot of scar tissue and extra bone growth that had become painful for her. Jenny is a happy-go-lucky girl. She’s always on the lookout for bunnies and squirrels, that’s the hound in her! She loves to play with other dogs, but big dogs that are rough can be a little much for her although she can hold her own! She does well playing on grass but a lot of walking on concrete will need some special care to make sure that her back legs don’t drag. She uses both our back legs very well, but will always have some mobility issues. She often tends to walk sideways when she gets tired! Jenny has gotten along well with all her other foster dog siblings. Jenny hasn’t met a stranger and also has been great with the children she’s met. As well as the cat in her foster home. Jenny is very well crate trained and housetrained although her accident has left her with urgency when she needs to go outside to potty. And Jenny walks well on a leash and loves to walk the neighbourhood looking for anything that moves! We feel that Jenny is ready for her forever home after over a year in her rescue foster homes. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. This beautiful guy is COLBY and he's a social butterfly! He's a 2-3 year old very sweet American Foxhound (we think pure-breed) and he's fully grown at 46 pounds. He has great social skills and loves every single person and dog he meets. He's super smart, sweet, energetic and a happy guy. He'd be a great addition to a family who wants a fun dog to be part of their family. He could live as a solo pup but he'd love a doggie sibling too. Watson is all personality! He is such a sweet guy and a little bit goofy but doesn't have a mean bone is his body. He's approximately 3 years old and weighs 67 pounds although he could stand to use a few more pounds. He's dog friendly and kid friendly too although we'd recommend that he'd be best with children who are 7+ years because he's a bigger guy and doesn't always realize it. He's living with a great foster family with children and they share that "he's a really good boy. He loves getting attention and love and getting all the pets he can. He's a silly guy - he likes a good bone and to hide it on himself and then go find it.:). He's learning his sit, stay and down commands too!" These babies were picked up following a post person because she fed them. Very sweet, friendly and happy, these are the typical hound personalities!! These will be wonderful companions for any family and kids are okay also. They do jump a bit so will need to learn some manners along with all of the puppy training. They are the best bunch of pups who are always happy to see people. Cats will need to be learned about along with leashes. Just wonderful dogs to have around, they will bring plenty of happiness!!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Shortcake (GA) is a female Basset/Hound mix estimated to be 6 years old at the time of intake in July 2024. Shortcake is up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. She will be spayed prior to joining her forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Shortcake is good with people, other dogs and even cats. We don't know what Shortcake's life was like that landed her in a shelter suffering with some untreated medical issues. Fortunately, Shortcake was pulled out of the shelter so she could receive the medical care she required and when we received a request to provide that medical care to Shortcake, of course we said YES! Shortcake's medical issues have been treated and this adorable girl is ready to start her life over with her forever family. Shortcake is sweet (of course!). She is quite a chunky girl and is on a weight loss regimen. Her joints are a bit squeaky, but she's on an arthritis supplement as well. Shortcake is literally one of the easiest going dogs ever and even a little person could walk her easily! Shortcake is on a special food as she cannot have chicken. This 5-year old, 68-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound mix may not have an actual MD degree, but he sure loves to make everyone around him feel better! Sweet and affectionate, Doc likes being pet and having his big beautiful ears scratched. He gets along great with humans and other respectful dogs. His activity level is moderate, in that he enjoys a good romp, a playtime session, or a long walk, followed by a nice nap, a good massage, or some chill time on his dog bed. Doc walks well on a leash, but can sometimes pull if his hound nose smells something interesting. He responds to the commands come, go, and get down, and he’s smart enough to learn a lot more. Hard at work on his housebreaking skills, Doc has been making significant progress and is well on his way to achieving success. Wanna run an errand and have him hop into an Uber with you? Doc is down for that! A big goofball, Doc has some funny habits, such as checking himself out in the mirror and marveling at his good looks! This dapper dude is still learning basic commands and proper canine behavior…and given the opportunity, he will surely get there.
