We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 50-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Jasper is an amazing dog! We've had him for 3.5 years (since he was a puppy) and he's great with kids and other pets, including cats. He is house trained and also responds to basic commands like sit, down, stay. He loves to play and go on walks and is still fairly high energy. He recently made the journey from Texas to Michigan with us and a few things have led us to seeking a new home for him: 1) He has a lot of allergies in Michigan and needs a monthly Cytopoint injection and fairly frequent baths to keep them in check. Unfortunately our kids have developed allergies to his pet dander and can't play with him that much. 2) We've had some changes in our schedule with work and school that make it difficult to get him the play time he needs. Coupled with the kids and allergies he has to spend more time in his kennel and leaves him with a lot of pent up energy. It's a tough decision for us but we'd really like to find a new home that has the time needed to give Jasper his best life!

Story
My name is Passionfruit, but my foster family likes to call me Mango as a nickname (I think both are pretty sweet). I am pretty anxious at first, but I’ve been settling in and feeling more comfortable every day! I’ve been on restricted activity because of heartworm treatment, which has been tough since I love to play. But honestly, I’m a champion couch potato - I adore snoozing, snuggling, and being close to my people. I completed my last heartworm treatment and starting December 4th, I’ll finally be able to run and play to my heart’s content! I’m already dreaming of all the adventures we could have together. In the meantime, I enjoy sniffing sessions outside and do great on my leash. I’m super smart and very food motivated (beef liver is my favorite treat!), so I’d love for you to teach me fun tricks and new skills. I’m on the lookout for my forever family, and I promise to fill your home with love, cuddles, and lots of loyalty. I can`t wait to meet you! **Passion Fruit is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! Please email adoptions@hshv.org or call (734)662-5585 to arrange a meeting today!
