Please contact Lowell Nelson (lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Looking for Love SWEETHEART NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Sweetheart     Best Guess for Breed:      Flat-Coated Retriever/Shepherd Mix Best Guess for Age:   8 yrs old        Gender:    Male Approximate Weight:    35 lbs Gets Along With: Sweetheart does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a friendly resident dog. We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested if you have them. We would be cautious placing Sweetheart in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At:  Will be at Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus for heartworm treatment before heading to the DC area.   Special Adoption Considerations: Sweetheart is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Additionally, Sweetheart was rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico and hasn't seen enough of the world yet. He is shy and needs go to a home with a friendly, welcoming dog. Sweetheart  is Looking For: A family to give me the love I've been missing.  I've had a rough go of it.... I've been staying alive on the streets of Puerto Rico for a long time, and I got a broken leg in my past.  I look forward to a place where I can feel safe and secure, with humans I can give my love to!  Will you give me chance?  What My Foster Says About Me: Will update once he has a foster!  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
