Story
LARRY is a special dog to us! He is a 2 year old male, mixed breed dog. A relative's DNA came back with German Shepherd, Beagle, Basset and Chow as the predominant breeds. Go figure? To us, he looks just like an English Lab. LARRY grew up in less than desirable, outdoor conditions. He was one of a backyard pack and was completely raised by canines. To his credit, he retains many of the loving qualities we love in dogs. He bonds quickly to his owner and is very loyal. He is great with other dogs. He is respectful of everything and everyone around him. For us, Larry is the consummate rescue dog. He will take a little time. There is still so much for him to experience in his new world. We initially placed Larry in a great foster home. Here, he made great strides learning how to live indoors with a family. He discovered the comfort of napping on the couch. He took delight in getting his favorite snack - Italian bread. But they could only build on his social skills so far. His confidence level was built to the point we could enroll him in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. We are pleased to report he is handling this beautifully! It is a safe and nurturing environment, yet he has to get used to a lot more activities, noises and people. If something scares him, his inmate is right there to help. In the meantime, Larry is also receiving obedience training. He is going to make someone a very nice companion. His general demeanor is quiet and gentle anyway. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Larry's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Story
ORION is a 2 year old, male mixed breed dog that weighs 48 lbs. From his foster mom "He is 98% joyful pup, 2% brat and 100% worth it!" Adopt Me! takes pride in getting to know our dogs well so we can ensure a proper fit, forever home. This is extra important when we have a dog like Orion. We sent him out as a 14 week old puppy. At this young age, he had no issues. He was returned a year later with an ounce or two of attitude. Orion lives for car rides, a good brushing, snuggle sessions, a nap in a clean laundry pile and the chance to play to with other dogs. He is obedience trained (from a tour in our Paws Behind Bars Prison Dog Training Program). He is also leash, crate and house trained. He also knows the "place" and "touch" command. Orion is all about exercising his intelligence capabilities and is a very motivated learner. The brat factor? Trainers have shared that Orion probably grew up, during his formative time, without proper boundaries. When dogs grow up without boundaries, they create their own. Through their eyes, there is nothing wrong with this, they need order in their lives. On the other hand, the inability to "share", can cause issues. But not to fear! The scale is so heavily weighted in Orion's favor, for all the good qualities he has, that the "not sharing" can be easily managed. It will simply take the right person. He will need a kind, patient but disciplined home. He will benefit from continued obedience training. Another young dog in the house would be perfect! If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Orion's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!
