Story
Rocky is a 2 year old altered male black flat coat retriever. He has a working dog vibe. He needs a secure fence, preferred chain link or something similar. He is good with my older female pit who is pretty chill. He was good with my kitten but he does not seem to do well with male dogs and definitely not chickens. He is very smart and I think he would do well with a family who could spend more time interacting with him. He is good with children about 7 and up. Any younger and I could not say. He was neutered January 2025.

Story
Tonka is a handsome hunk of love who is bound to win your heart! Tonka is estimated to be just over a year old and is a gentle soul eager for love. He is pretty much a living teddy bear who loves to cuddle and will curl up in your lap if you let him. He can be a little shy in new places, but he is quick to warm up and will then be your best friend for life. Tonka appears to be mostly fully grown. He currently weighs around 60 lbs. Tonka came to us from an overcrowded shelter in Central California. He came into the shelter after being found as a stray with his brother. His brother was adopted from the shelter, but Tonka was overlooked and found himself on the euthanasia list due to length of stay. We knew we couldn't let such an amazing boy not get a second chance, so we were so grateful when his foster parents stepped up to help save him. He has been blossoming in his foster home and is oh-so-ready for his fur-ever home! Tonka is the epitome of a black lab. His favorite things include food, cuddles, and playtime. He is very much food-motivated and would be a great student for someone who loves to train. He has aced some of his basic manners, but his new family should expect to continue his training to help him be the best boy her can be. He loves his walks and would be a wonderful hiking buddy for someone looking for a moderate-energy companion. Tonka doesn't believe in personal space and loves to get up close and personal when nap time rolls around.  Tonka loves other dogs and quickly became BFFs with the other large dog in his foster home. He seems to follow a lot of what the other dog does to know what to do, so he would thrive with another confident dog in his life to help him gain confidence. He would love a live-in-play buddy but also could do well as an only dog with lots of opportunities to play with other dogs. We haven't seen him at a dog park, but he seems like he would be a good candidate to go. We haven't seen Tonka around cats, but we think with a slow introduction and proper supervision he could do well living with dog-savvy cats. Tonka has done great with respectful kids and could make a wonderful addition to a family with kids 7 years or older. Tonka has been doing great with his house and crate training in his foster home. However, his new family should be patient while he transitions to a new environment and routine and expect a few accidents. Tonka does best being crated when his foster parents aren't home as he will get into things when not supervised. He has also done well sleeping in his crate overnight. Tonka is such a big love and he can't wait to meet his new family! If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application on our website, yolospca.org/adopt!   Tonka's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. Story
One look into Birdie's eyes and you will fall in love! Birdie is estimated to be just over a year old and is a dainty lady ready for her fur-ever home. She is a gentle girl who has the sweetest little face and big brown eyes. She can be shy when meeting new people, but once she knows she's safe, she never wants to leave your side. Birdie is fully grown and weighs about 44lbs. Birdie came to us from a local shelter after she was found as a stray. She was never claimed by a family and due to her sensitive nature, she was overwhelmed at the shelter and passed up for adoption. She was able to open up to the staff there and they new she had such great potential outside of the stressful environment. Unfortunately, due to overcrowding at the shelter, Birdie was placed on the euthanasia list. We knew we couldn't let such a sweet girl not have a chance at a happy-ever-after and were able to find a foster home to take her in. Birdie has been slowing coming out of her shell in foster care and showing us the loving girl she is. Birdie is delicate girl who will happily surprise you with glimpses of goofy fun. She has learned that she loves toys and it's pretty adorable to watch her throw her toys around for herself. She loves to sunbathe and go on walks around the neighborhood and is the perfect moderate-energy companion to remind you to get out and be active at least once a day. Birdie also enjoys cuddling on the couch with her foster parents and will gently paw at you when she wants some pets. She is a very polite girl who is eager to please, despite seeming to not know any commands. She would benefit from some basic manners training to help her be the best girl she can be. Birdie has done well meeting other dogs and seems interested in having another dog to play with. She also wouldn't mind being your spoiled only pup. Birdie seems like she could do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Due to her shy nature, Birdie would do best with a family with teenagers or an adult-only home. Birdie has been doing great with her house training and loves spending time in her crate. Her crate is her safe space and she is happy to hang out in there when home alone and overnight. Birdie is such a special girl who deserves a family who will love her as much as we do. If she sounds like the sweet companion for you, submit an adoption application today!   Birdie's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application.
