This sweet girl lost her family when they moved and were not able to bring her. She stayed with her owner's friends until they found a safe place for her with GPMR. She was born in December 2022.Sushi is a sweetie! She was so excited to meet her fosters Bully mix, that she was a bit much at first. After some decompression time, they’re now best buds and play all the time! Sushi also does well at reading and responding to cues when playing, or gently correcting if it’s too rough. Sushi is a bit unsure around new people, but has not shown aggression, She retreats to her kennel or to her fosters upon meeting someone new. This hopefully will get better in time but in case, she would do best in a home that doesn't constantly have visitors coming and going. She is crate trained and sleeps in her kennel at night with no issue, and is trusted inside with free roam. Sushi has a high prey drive and goes after rabbits outside and tries to chase cars when they pass (she is behind the chainlink fence so she can't get to them but can see them), so she definitely needs supervision outside. A securely fenced yard is a must for her. She likely would not do well with cats or tiny/small breed dogs given her prey drive. She is a heavy chewer but has not been destructive, she just needs age and size appropriate toys. Sushi is good with her fosters 2 kids, ages 5 years and 7 months. She is big and goofy but understands being gentle around them. She is food motivated and that has helped in crate training her. Sushi can shake and sit and is very smart. She is housebroken and has had no accidents. They are working on some manners related to counter-surfing - but again, she's food motivated so that's to be expected. Sushi loves to snuggle! She does need play/exercise time but she usually plays for about 20-30 minutes then rests for a couple of hours, so even being young and energetic, she's pretty chill for a puppy. True to the breed, she can be stubborn. They’re working on recall with her and she's consistently responsive to the foster Dad, but a bit more stubborn with her foster Mom, though she is improving. With a little patience and recognition of her age and traits that are typical for the breed, she'll be a wonderful companion to the family who adopts her. Overall, she really is a sweetheart and a great dog! Sushi is being fostered in Conway, AR. She is a 4 year old girl who was surrendered by her owners because she would bark and wake the young children up during their naptime. Mia was also very bossy with the other dogs.Mia is a 'Fluffy' meaning she carries a recessive gene that causes this longer haircoat. They are not very common to see and she has a beautiful color and coat! Mia has what we call 'stranger danger'. It appears she was not socialized outside of the people in her home, so when when she sees people or dogs out the window or when new people come over she barks at them. It will continue until she can no longer see them or she is redirected. She warms up to women faster than men. We are doing some training session to help her build up her confidence so she can learn she doesn't need to be barking at people. She does not bark when outside the home while on walks, just when people are coming into 'her' house. Other than barking, Mia is well behaved inside the home. She is trusted to roam freely in the house and will only chew on toys. She loves all of her toys and wants to have several to choose from. She likes to always to have a chew toy and loves to play with plush toys as well. Mia is housebroken and has had no accidents. She is learning to walk politely on a leash and requires a harness and lead.  Mia loves to run, chase, and fetch, so she would do well in a home with a large yard. She prefers supervision outside and wants to see that her people are around before she plays or does her business. She is very friendly and affectionate but can also be territorial and protective of her toys with other dogs. It took her a couple of weeks to warm up to her foster brother, but now they get along just fine, without issue. She does want to be the alpha, but that's fine with the passive resident dog. She can be placed with a submissive dog who doesn't mind her bossiness and also won't steal her toys or try to push too much play on her. While she will engage in play with the other dog, everything she does with other dogs she wants on her comfort level. Mia is not recommend for homes with small dogs or cats.Mia is in great health and ready to be adopted!
