Domestic Shorthair kittens & cats in Olean, New York

One SMART Kitty!Floyd was born about November 9, 2010 and weighs about 15 lbs.  This big kitty is a very smart boy and appeared here winter of 2017.  It seems he found the cat door in the front of the garage, wandered around in the garage long enough to find the cat door into the cellar where there is an endless supply of kitty food, fresh water and a rather consistent temperature of about 60 degrees.  So, winter of 2017 he terrorized the staff and the dogs that visit the cellar now and then to try to find 'treats' that the other rather feral cats, who live inside (cellar)/outside leave for them.  He was fine with the other cats, but the dogs weren't allowed to come up the steps after they got down!   No humans were allowed to touch him and if you reached for something in the shelves where he was lurking you'd get a good swat on your hand that goes 'THUD'!   Then summer came and he was gone.  The cellar was much more accessible to all of us, but we must admit we missed him a bit and hoped he was ok.  Then came winter of 2018 and the snow and cold hit early - Floyd was back!   He looked a little rough, but it didn't take long for him to regain his shiny fur and eyes.  And much to our surprise he was just a teensy bit friendlier and seemed to be taunting 'Cat Man Drew' by rubbing on his legs, yet swatting his hand if it came close.  OK...now is the time to neuter this boy!   'Cat Man Drew' grabbed him with some big gloves and into a crate he went!!!    Then off to see Dr. Rasey to get the deed done!  He recovered a few days in a crate and then was cautiously set free in the cellar looking rather indignant!  Perhaps he's mellowed a bit and we don't know if he'll be leaving again this summer, but if he does he may find his summer activities dampened just a bit if you know what I mean.    : )   We understand it is unlikely anyone will want to adopt Floyd, but we thought it was fun to tell his story and hope you enjoyed reading about him.  We've deemed Floyd a sanctuary pet and he is considered 'un-adoptable'. We are SOOOO lucky!Igor was born around May 23, 2018  Igor came to us as a feral teen kitten who was passed the point where he could easily become friendly.  For this reason Igor lives as an outdoor/indoor garage and heated basement kitty at the main location of Joyful Rescues. He is one of several sanctuary kitties here that live the best life possible for them.  We cannot touch him, but as you can see he is well fed.  lol!  Our sanctuary kitties are welcome to live here the remainder of their lives unless a suitable home or decent barn environment becomes interested in them.  There is no adoption fee for this kitty.   Igor is neutered, was vaccinated, and flea treated as needed. Izzy was guessed to be born on October 3, 2020; this guess was based on information from a neighbor who knew the deceased owner.  However, it now seems she may be older than that, and a birthdate in 2015 might be more appropriate.  The story goes that the woman passed away suddenly in September of 2021, leaving her young adult son alone in the city of Buffalo rented home with the two cats.  Then a girlfriend moved in and then they both moved out summer of 2022 leaving the cats behind.  What good kitties as they continued to use the litter box that was becoming quite full by the time the owner of the home visited and was so kind.....that he opened a window so the cats would escape - but they didn't so then they were tossed out on the street!  Then comes along a kind neighbor who contacts one of Joyful's very dedicated volunteers and thankfully we had room to take these kitties in quickly.  Thank you, Renee!  Renee is fostering Izzy and she's wonderful with the other cats and dogs in her home.  She became adjusted very quickly to the new environment and always seems thankful that she is safe and loved again.  She is SUPER affectionate and adores when there is a visitor and she feels surely that visitor is there to see her and if they stop petting her they will gently tap them on the arm to remind them that she is till there and is expecting more love and admiration.  Izzy may have a bit of a grumpy looking face, but it is not true to her personality - she is a happy, loving, companion waiting for her new forever home!    The adoption fee for this kitty is $50.00 because her foster mom, Renee, has sponsored the remaining fee - thank you Renee! Fleetwood was born around May 18, 2023 and is an average sized kitty. Fleetwood is wonderfully social, and outgoing and should make wonderful additions to your family.  Fleetwood is good about other cats and dogs alike and he is fine in a car.  He is wonderful about using his litterbox - he is just wonderful!  Piper aka Precious is a sweet fun loving cat that was born August 4, 2023 and weighs about 8 lbs.  She is a charmer that will meet you at the door talking away and telling you how happy she is that you are home.  Then she'll go back to playing with the other fun kitty or maybe the dog.  When tuckered out she will snuggle and snooze with you, the other kitty or even the dog!  She is a typical curious cat. She is a confident cat as well and not afraid of much.  She loves to carry her favorite toy and TALK. Piper loves to follow you everywhere so you will have to be careful when opening doors. She uses the scratch post and litter box with no problem.   A cat can live 12-18+ years if cared for properly. Be sure you are able to care for it for its lifetime. Paige, also known as 'Shy Shy Girl,' is a sweet cat with a gentle and calm personality. She is an average-sized cat, weighing approximately 8 pounds, and was born about August 4, 2023.   Paige would thrive in a home with another quiet cat companion. She is quite independent and enjoys entertaining herself by inventing games. For example, she loves to play with a crinkle ball by carrying it and dropping it in front of the curtain and bating it behind, then sliding under the curtain to retrieve it. While she may not be as playful as other cats, she enjoys watching them from the sidelines.   Paige is slowly learning to enjoy gentle head scratches and will sit near you, but she is not fond of being held. She is a sensitive cat who needs a patient adopter who will allow her to adjust at her own pace.
