**ADOPTION FEE PARTIALLY SPONSORED If there is one thing you should know about Fennel, it is that she is a survivor! However, there is so much more to learn about this gorgeous and feisty tortie young female. Fennel is a shining of example of "tortitude." She can often be seen at the scene of the crime -- wherever there's chaos, there's bound to be Fennel. Despite this, she is an exceptionally loving cat towards humans and even now as an adult, enjoys being held, carried, and will never say no to a shoulder ride.Midway through December of 2023, we did Fennel's intake. She and her sisters presented as perfectly normal 12 week old kittens. However, while they quickly completed their quarantine, vetting, and went on to get adopted right awake, she began showing concerning symptoms. For months, we sought out different vet opinions for her and cycled through several treatment options. She'd regain her appetite, her fever would diminish, and we'd dare to hope that we were finally out of the woods with her. But it never lasted long, and she repeatedly worsened, a vicious cycle that we began dreading. We were at the end of our rope, unsure of what exactly was wrong but also unwilling to continue to let her suffer. Difficult conversations that we dread ever having to broach were on the horizon as she fell more ill than ever. And then...she just stopped getting worse. Her appetite held for over a week. She ceased showing her 3rd eyelid. Her fever broke and stayed broken. She started purring again. We made an appointment with one more vet and held out hope that this was it.And it was! At this final vet appointment, we were given what amounts to a diagnosis of exclusion of bacterial pneumonia which is very rare for cats to have. The vet explained that with the symptoms Fennel experienced, any other possible diagnosis or illness would require her having passed away on her own by now. The fact that she was improving on her own combined with the history and the way she did not respond to any medications provided bacterial pneumonia as the only option. He assured us that the worst was over and that we could rest easy. We simply needed to wait and give her lungs, full of scar tissue from the pneumonia, a chance to heal.Fennel delighted us day by day by initiating interactions, playing, and finally having an appetite to nourish her tiny body. She grew fast and rowdy, and soon we began allowing her to spend her days in the adoptable cat room so she could learn how to be cat again. Because she spent so many months as a kitten ill, she was a little behind socially. She improves every day, however, and is much friendlier and more forgiving towards her fellow cats than she used be. Fennel is now full vetted and 100% back to healthy and normal. She may always retain some scar tissue in her lungs, but as the body continually heals itself, each x-ray looks better and better, and it does not affect her breathing or mobility at all. She has now been at FFAA for over eight months, mostly due to her extended stay while she was ill.

Story
**ADOPTION FEE PARTIALLY SPONSOREDToyota is a 6 month old tabby kitten. Shy and quiet at first, once reminded that she enjoys affection, she sweetens right up! Her permanently sour face belies her secretly sweet nature. Although she looks cranky in all her photos, she's just got a good ol' case of "RBF!" Come give Toyota some lovin' - she deserves it!The reason for her shyness? Toyota and the other cats she came in with spent their entire life in a bathroom, only ever interacting with their first owner and each other. They did not know how to use a litterbox, and they were filthy and infested with fleas and mites. Despite their fearfulness, the kittens remained sweet and gentle, and they have definitely all been coming out of their shell and developing their own individual personalities. The final step in their evolution is finding their own homes where they can truly get comfy and blossom!

Story
**ADOPTION FEE PARTIALLY SPONSOREDMeet Denali! Ever-elusive, this male has been through a lot to get here! Brought in as an owner surrender, we soon learned that Denali had been raised for his entire kitten-hood in a bathroom, only ever interacting with hi first owner and the other cats he shared his space with. He did not know how to use a litterbox when he got here, and he and his group were filthy, wormy, and infested with fleas and mites. Despite his fear, throughout his quarantine period, Denali and the other car kitties remained sweet and gentle. Lately, they have all been coming out of their shell and developing their own individual personalities. We think that for Denali, the final step in his evolution is finding his forever home so he can truly get comfortable away from the hustle, bustle, noise, and chaos of shelter living.

Story
**ADOPTION FEE PARTIALLY SPONSORED Chevy is a big, handsome boy. His half-tabby face mask is striking and sets him apart from the other cats in his group. Chevy tends to be mellow and curious. He has finally developed an interest in making new friends with other cats. He pretends like he doesn't enjoy getting babied by staff (but he secretly loves it). He's even taken to following the extroverted cats example in cat adopt and joins them to greet strangers. It's taken a few months for Chevy to start developing his fantastic personality. He and the other cats he came with spent their entire life in a bathroom, only ever interacting with their owner and each other. They lacked even basic life skills like using the litterbox (don't worry - they're experts now), and they were filthy and infested with fleas and mites. Despite their fearfulness, the kittens remained sweet and gentle. Chevy is easily the friendliest of the "car kitties" group -- he even lets his favorite kennel tech hold him on his back like a baby and rock him back and forth between smooches. All he needs now is a save and loving home that will grant him the time and space to adjust to blossom and become his best self. Are you that home for Chevy?

Story
Dawn is gorgeous tabby male who was picked up as a stray at a gun range where he seemed to have been dumped. Concerned for his safety, Good Samaritans brought him into us. They felt that he had a home at one time -- he was friendly, calm, and tried to jump into everyone's car at the range. He was also previously neutered. Dawn is a mellow and sleepy presence in the cat room. Often found tucked into a bed, a window perch, or dozing in his kennel, he likes his space from the other cats, but he always finds human interaction welcome. He's lately been developing a crush on long-stay cat "Fennel," and he spends a lot of time observing her closely and following her at a very safe distance. Just as the sun comes up new every morning, Dawn is hoping that his second chance and new life will rise soon as well.

Story
Cardi was once a feral and terrified kitten. Through a group effort and some patience, Cardi was fed and coaxed for weeks til trust was built enough for her to be captured and cared for. Now able to be held and petted, Cardi was able to come to FFAA. She's gotten so friendly since arriving, hardly the same cat! Her current cagemate is another tuxedo, Chester, and they play well together. All the work to tame Cardi has been done already; she's ready for the final leg of her journey and can't wait to find a family of her own.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Diffy was trapped as part of a TNR sweep and was found to be friendly. A local resident stated cat had been seen in the neighborhood for some time with a collar. He recently showed up without his collar and a wound to his face. The resident suspects the cat may have left when his people moved. Neighbors were asked and nobody claimed the cat or knew where he lived. Diffy is normally very sweet, but he is cage aggressive. He wants to come indoors and has also shown himself to be an accomplished hunter. His ideal home would be strictly indoors (with lots of activities) to protect the local wildlife and him so he doesn't cross the neighbors while hunting OR to be employed as a barn cat where his skills can be put to good use.
