Story
Name: Oreo Age: 1-2 years old Breed: Domestic short hair Gender: Neutered Male Good with Dogs: Never Been around dogs Good with Cats: got along well with her siblings but it’s unsure how she’ll do with other animals Good with Children: never been around kids Current weight: 19.3lbs FeLv/FIV test: Fiv Positive Adoption Fee: $50 Misc. Information: Oreo was surrendered to the shelter, along with Bandit and Bootsie, due to a change in his owner’s rental policy. The owner said that Oreo got along well with his brother and sister, but it’s unclear how he might do with other animals. Oreo was described as a very sweet and loving boy who enjoys playing and eating. What is FIV? FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus just as HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. It typically causes a weakening of the cat's immune system. While similar to HIV, FIV has a long asymptomatic period and our job is to prolong this period. FIV is not transmissible to people! However, we do not recommend adopting an FIV cat if there is an immunosuppressed individual in the home, as FIV cats are more likely to become infected with and shed opportunistic organisms which may be transmissible to people. How long will an FIV cat live? Life expectancy is variable, but many live a long, happy life. Approximately 18% die within 5 years of infection. An additional 18% are still alive in that time frame but are experiencing illness from their immune-suppressed state. The remaining cats appear normal in that time frame and many go on to live long lives, only periodically experiencing illness. How is Diagnosis Made? At this shelter diagnosis is made using a screening test that uses a blood sample. It should be noted that administration of the vaccine for FIV will cause a cat to test positive. We do not currently have the technology to distinguish a vaccinated cat from a truly positive cat. How did this cat become infected? The major route of virus transmission is by the deep bite wounds that occur during fighting. There are other means of spreading the virus but they are less common, such as maternal transfer, sexually and via improperly screened blood transfusions. Casual contact such as sharing food bowls or snuggling is very unlikely to be associated with transmission. What special considerations does this cat need? **Keep your Cat Indoors Only - to prevent spread to other cats and protect your cat from infectious diseases. **Vaccination - your Veterinarian will advise you on future vaccine needs of your cat. Some vets recommend fewer vaccinations, or none at all. This cat was vaccinated on intake at this shelter, prior to diagnosis of FIV, as that is our policy to maintain the heard health of the cats here. **Parasite Control - this cat has been treated for diagnosed parasites at the shelter, but should be routinely treated as needed by your Veterinarian. General Monitoring - It is recommended that FIV cats have a check-up twice yearly by your Veterinarian. These cats are more prone to illnesses such as upper respiratory infections and dental disease. Your Veterinarian may recommend yearly bloodwork to monitor general health. Can FIV be treated? No, there is no treatment. Most FIV-positive cats handle the disease well, but it is important to address any secondary illnesses that may develop. Can FIV-negative and FIV-positive cats live together? There will always be a risk of transmission, but as long as there is no fighting the risk is minimal. The shelter provides a 5-day health guarantee for adopted animals. This includes health conditions not present or known about by the shelter at the of adoption, which adopter becomes aware of within 5 days. Injuries or accidents that occur at the adopter's home are not covered. The shelter is not responsible for incurred costs from local veterinarians due to non-compliance. ALL adoptions are final! Animals can be returned to the shelter for any reason, however, there are NO refunds or exchanges.

Story
This amazing girl right here is Bootsie. She is around 5 years old and doing great. Bootsie was recently surrendered to the veterinary clinic I work at when diagnosed with diabetes. She is currently prescribed 2 units of kitty insulin twice a day and takes the injections like a pro! Besides her daily shots of insulin, she is very self-sustainable and low maintenance. She will come with insulin, syringes, and a glucometer (measures her blood sugar levels). She is currently fed a diet of Hills M/d which bests regulates her blood sugar, but she can eat any type of food. If you are looking for an adult female cat that deserves all the love in the world, this girl is for you!

Story
Zya, the Grey one, has been having issues with peeing on my boyfriends clothes. We haven't had any major changes in the past few years so I'm not sure why she's started doing this. Wanting to pair the two since they've grown up together - Zya is 3 (birthday in May) and Nina is 2 (birthday in March). They're not aggressive, don't necessarily like being held but will sleep and cuddle on/near you. Love being outside, we let them on our balcony, they know to stay within boundaries given to them, and they answer to their names.

Story
Hi, I'm Athena! I'm a gentle older gal with a sweet disposition, looking for a place to call home alongside my brother, Kato. The two of us have been together since the start, and I just can't imagine life without him. We have both been very gentle and affectionate with young children in the past, but we've never been around other cats or dogs. I am fairly laid-back, but am hoping for my new family to help encourage me to exercise through interactive playtime. ____________________________________ Kato and Athena are both very obese and will need a gradual weight loss plan in consultation with adopter's veterinarian. They also have skin conditions that will need further diagnostics and treatment with adopter's veterinarian. If there are underlying food or environmental allergies causing their skin conditions, this may require ongoing management including medications and/or a special diet.

Hi, I'm Kato! I'm a gentle older guy with a sweet disposition, looking for a place to call home alongside my sister, Athena. The two of us have been together since the start, and I just can't imagine life without her. We have both been very gentle and affectionate with young children in the past, but we've never been around other cats or dogs. I have a playful side and enjoy interactive toys such as laser pointers and wand toys, and also enjoy carrying around larger stuffed toys. I'm hoping my new family will encourage me to stay active to help me shed some weight. _____________________________ Kato and Athena are both very obese and will need a gradual weight loss plan in consultation with adopter's veterinarian. Story
Hi, I'm Elektra. I've been raised in a loving foster home with my brothers Blade and Gambit. They have both been gone for about a month now. I'm the one with no collar. Blade and I were both very scared, hissy, not handleable, and I took it one step further with swatting and growling. Gambit can't possibly be related to us because he is way too nice! I still have a lot of work to do but I have come a long way. I used to hide all the time, but I have started to come out more to play. I really like chasing wands and strings. I still don't like being touched but I will tolerate it when given squeezable treats. I am looking for a forever home that is willing to go the extra mile to teach me that humans are actually kind of nice to be around. A quiet home that is patient, kind, and understanding that I may take longer than other kittens to warm up. Come back for updates on my progress in my foster home. Update 10/25: I have warmed up more to pets and even can be heard purring at times. I have a really nice kitty tower that is my safe space. I am more accepting of scratches and love and have the cutest little squeak/meow. I can even be seen rolling around and showing my tummy. Occasionally, I will come out for scratches and even sat on my foster mom's lap last week. I am still pretty nervous around strangers. Slowly but surely making progress.
