Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Greta came to us from Brownsdale, MN where she was found at a abandoned farm with 2 kittens, Victoria and Teeny.  She also took in 2 kittens whose mother could not nurse, Lena and Pongo.  Greta was a very good mom who was protective of all of her babies.  As an individual, she is a shy girl who warms up slowly to new faces.  She does not allow any of the volunteers to pick her up.  She is however, comfortable walking around MCHS, patrolling and keeping on top of all the action.    An easy-going, low key and patient home would be best for this girl, where she would not be expected to be a "lap cat". We expect Greta to be one of those girls who always likes to keep her distance when it comes time for petting or holding.   Greta is now spayed and current on shots.  She has tested neg for feline leukemia/FIV.  Greta will be adopted as an indoor only cat and her adoption fee is $80.  A pet porter is required at the time of adoption.  If you are interested in meeting Greta, please go to mchs.rescuegroups.org and fill out and submit an application.  We will get in touch with you and set up a meeting time.  You must be 21 to adopt from MCHS.  Our address is 101 22 ST SE, Austin, MN.  We are located off of I-90 via exit 180B to 218 SOUTH.  We are located just past our local airport.  THANKS!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 10:55 am

Story
Dovey was born in June of 2021 with her three brothers on an acreage near Albert Lea. Dovey has worked hard on her trust issues and is now ready to provide love and companionship to some very lucky humans! She is a curious and playful girl who loves her kitty friends and is learning that laps are a pretty great place to be! Due to her wilder start in life, she will probably thrive best in a home with adults and older children, and will need a bit of time and patience to allow her wonderful personality to bloom! She is also an avid fly hunter, bird watcher and loves tailbone scratches! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Felix and his siblings came to us after being found as strays when they were around two months old. We believe Felix was born in August of 2021, and would do well with older children and other animals with proper introduction. Felix is one of 6 in his litter and he is the shy guy of the group. He is very quiet and a bit reserved, but does like to be petted once he knows you. He also enjoys cuddling with his kitty friends and would prefer to have a feline friend in his new home! Story
Say hey to Doll! Doll came to us after being live trapped during a TNR project when she was around 6 weeks old. We believe she was born in October of 2021. When Doll first came to us she was VERY scared of humans and shelter life. Since then she has warmed up and likes to be petted, get a few tummy rubs and maybe the occasional tail bone scratch once she gets to know you. She will roll over and purr for you but is still nervous of loud noises and fast movements. She will need some extra time to adjust in her new home, and would do best in a home with older calmer children and animals. She is gaining more confidence every day with humans, and will make a wonderful kitty for someone that will give her the time she needs to settle in. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. Story
Meet Helen! Helen came to us after being found as a stray in rural Freeborn county. We believe Helen was born in October of 2022, and would do best in a calm home, with another feline friend, and children 12+. We are not sure how Helen would feel about a dog in her new home, but if properly introduced, she may do okay with a calmer dog. When Helen first came to us, she was very scared of humans. She has improved since coming to us, but she also has the typical calico kitty tendencies and prefers to interact on her terms only. Given time Helen will come sit near you and allow you to pet her for a bit, and then she will go find a comfy spot to snuggle up with a feline friend. She is a beautiful gal that also enjoys bird watching if she isn't cuddled up with friends! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Story
Say hey to Yuko! Yuko came to us after being found as a stray all alone when she was around 3 months old. We believe she was born in May of 2022 and would do best in a home with another feline friend, and with a family that understands she may get nervous from time to time. Yuko is a very sweet gal that loves to play with friends and get attention, but she can also be easily startled from time to time. She may get nervous enough to hide for a while, but will come back out when she sees friends playing. Once playtime is over she likes to cuddle up with a friend and take a nap or be petted / snuggled a bit. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped.
