Story
My name is Milo and I am a white & brown tabby domestic shorthair. I am a neutered male and I am 1 year and 6 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 02/11/2025 due to the fact I have issues with other animals. They were my family for 3-6 months. I am used to staying both inside during the day, and inside during the night. I am a good kitty who uses the litterbox! I am a medium energy cat and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. I dash out open doors or windows if given the opportunity. I would do best in a setting with two doors between exterior doors, such as a screened in porch or hallway, or to be shut in another room or in a kennel before any doors or windows are opened. I can be good with men, women, and children. I cannot live with other cats and I cannot live with dogs. All cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and cats over 6 months of age are tested for heartworms. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Cats are vaccinated against distemper and rabies, receive a flea preventative, are spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Story
My name is Halo and I am a orange tabby & white domestic shorthair. I am a spayed female and I am 5 years and 3 months old. I am at the shelter because I was found as a stray on 10/03/2024. I am a good kitty who uses the litterbox! I am a medium energy cat and I will need an owner with some prior pet owning experience. I do not have a history of trying to escape the home, but the shelter staff always recommends owners be mindful that I do not accidentally sneak out on their way out the door. I can be good with men, women, and children. The Ames Animal Shelter`s WORKING CATS PROGRAM offers an environmentally-safe alternative to poisonous pest controls. Our working cats, who aren`t suited for indoor living due to their feral or semi-feral behavior, would love to spend their lives helping to control your warehouse, ranch, mill or barn`s rodent and pest population. All they ask for in return is shelter, food, water and care.Best of all, when you give our working cats a job, you`re saving the lives of homeless pets who otherwise would not have been suitable for adoption. There is no adoption fee for working cats, who are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and have tested negative for Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. If you are interested in this particular cat, please call the Ames Animal Shelter at 515-239-5530.

Story
There is only one word to describe this handsome boy and that is PURRFECT! Royce loves everyone he meets. He is sweet, cuddly, and loveable. He absolutely loves to rub his face against yours to show his love and affection. The one thing that you should know is that he does have FIV. Unfortunately, he was tested and found to be positive. That shouldn't stop anyone from adopting. There is a lot of great information regarding living with a FIV+ cat. This wonderful guy deserves a wonderful home. All cats and kittens come spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fees are $50.00 for adult cats and $75.00 for kittens under 6 months old at the time of adoption. Story
Zip starts off as a little shy and skittish, but beneath his cautious exterior lies a heart full of affection. Earning Zip's trust might take a little patience, but the reward is a furry friend as sweet as you can imagine. Zip's initial wariness simply means he's looking for reassurance of your trustworthiness. Spend a little time showing him kindness and understanding, and you'll soon find that Zip transforms into the most loving companion, eager to curl up next to you and soak up all the attention you can give. Beyond his sweet and loving nature, Zip has a playful streak that is sure to bring joy to any home. One of his favorite activities is chasing and attacking the broom when shelter staff are sweeping. Zip can often be seen playing and snuggling with his sister, Zap. Watching them interact is a heartwarming sight, as they bring out the best in each other with their shared love and companionship. Zip is a delightful mix of shy and sweet, playful and affectionate. With a little patience and understanding, you can build a strong bond with him, and he'll reward you with endless love and joy. Zip and his sister Zap are not bonded and can be adopted separately. However, Zap does help provide Zip with a sense of comfort and helps bring him out of his shell. All cats and kittens come spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fees are $50.00 for adult cats and $75.00 for kittens under 6 months old at the time of adoption.
