Story
Say Cheese!!!! 🧀 Cheese is a handsome, playful and adventurous boy. He loves the cat trees, sleeping with other kitties, and tummy tickles. He’d rather run off and play than snuggle right now, but he’s a young, active boy. He will be available for adoption through Redemption Rescue, Inc. Soon when he is big enough to be neutered.

Story
GusYou have to admit that I was a cutie-pie as a kitten. I was about two months old when I was brought to HSHC as a stray. I got adopted a couple of weeks later and lived with this owner for 4.5 years. Despite my nervous nature, I learned to enjoy cuddles and being petted, and I even used the litterbox without fail. I am now 4-years and 9-months old, and my owner surrendered me back just after Christmas. My owner had adopted me during COVID-19 and was home more often. Everything was initially great. But in the last two years, I experienced BIG changes: my owner got a divorce, she went back to the office for work, she starred in a play and was gone a lot, and then she found a new boyfriend. I had been sharing two litterboxes right next to each other with the other cat, and then we got one robot litterbox to replace the others. Hey! A fella has a limit to the amount of change he can handle! On February 5, I moved into a foster home with a fantastic foster mom (FM). She understands I am a sensitive guy who craves a quiet home with someone who can offer regular, consistent, cat-approved care. After three nights, I left my hiding spot and sat on her lap! She earned my trust, and I began cuddling, making biscuits, and rubbing my face against her face! I am still hesitant and need lots of time to get used to new people and places. Loud noises outside my safe space room will startle me! However, I`m making progress. My FM has a very polite 4-year-old son I allow to pet me. I am only 10 lbs., so I fit into many small hiding spots. I`m also clever, so I can make a break for an open door. The trouble is that I panic when I get into big, unfamiliar spaces. I hope you get the picture. I am a sweetie wrapped in a bit of anxiety with a need for my person to be patient, calm, and at home much more than my previous person. 2-20-25

Story
ClassyLet me tell you a little about myself. I will be 9-years-old in March and am a lovely black and white girl. I am very petite and look much younger than the calendar says. My photos are accurate reflections of my physical charm. Rather shy at first, I am a sociable kitty. I love being with my humans, just hanging out and being close to them. I let the interviewer lady (IL) pet my head, and we had just met! She giggled when she saw me sitting by my water dish, dipping my paw into the water and drinking from it. Hey, I`m just being lady-like. I am not a big fan of being held, but I`ll always want to sit close to you. Although it`s not my favorite activity, I let my owner cut my nails! I`d say I am not a high-energy cat; relaxing someplace soft is more my idea of a good time. I am nuts about finding small, enclosed spaces in which to curl up and nap. One of my personality quirks is loving to sit on top of and in luggage! I am also partial to high-sided, stainless steel litter boxes. I can`t stand those litterboxes with hoods on them. You might be impressed when I tell you I am an alumnus of HSHC. This is my second time living in the cattery. I first arrived in September 2021 because my owner was moving. I got adopted in October and lived with this owner for four years. However, she surrendered me on January 21 due to my always having had a sensitive tummy. Hill`s GI Biome diet and using a puzzle feeder have helped me. I am excited to think my forever human is out there, reading my story and planning on adopting me. Can`t wait! 2-12-25

Story
ScarletWhen I was first surrendered to HSHC, I was an 8-month-old Calico kitten. My owner was moving but not taking me along. After only a week, I got adopted, and life was good! I lived with my new owner for two years before allergies in the family resulted in me returning to the HSHC. Because I was so distraught at being in the shelter, I went to live with a foster mom. I am now 3-years-old and so grateful for my time in a home. My first reaction to new things and people is to be fearful and hiss. My foster mom said it took me about a week to get comfortable enough to stop hiding and hissing. By mid-April, I would rub against her, jump into her lap, settle down, and purr. As long as I feel I know a person, I am an affectionate little girl. Based on how safe I feel, I have a cuddly side to my personality. However, to ensure I remain comfortable in a home, all family members need to be 18 or older. I used my litterbox very well in my foster home. When the interviewer lady visited me, my first reaction was to hiss. However, the more time spent with me results in a sweet, loveable kitty. If you have the time, I have the desire to move in with you! 5-30-24

Story
BorisWhen I first lived at the HSHC, I was a 3-month-old stray kitten. Ten days later, I was adopted. But, on January 3, 2025, I was brought back to the shelter as a stray. The HSHC tried to contact my owner, but there was no trace of him. So, I am trying to adjust to the idea of abandonment. I`ll be 3-years-old in May, a slim 10.7 lbs, relatively tall, with a striking grey and white coat. Being in the shelter has been both a shock and a blessing. At least I`m out of the lousy weather and being fed. But this 2-room apartment is a bit small, and all the people, noise, and cats are overwhelming. The first time the interviewer lady (IL) came to see me, I sniffed her finger but remained suspicious of her intentions. However, I let her pet me today because I could see she was harmless. Because I am skittish about all the changes in my life, I will need an understanding owner who will give me plenty of time to settle into my new home. I would appreciate people who do not come on too strong or make many demands of me. It takes me a while to feel comfortable, so easy does it on the petting, holding, or direct contact. These days, since being abandoned, I can overreact and become defensive when I feel afraid. I hope to find a loving human who wants to help me regain my trust and confidence. With time, I am confident that I will be a happy cat again. 2-4-25

Look no further than Nox, the male orange tabby who is winning hearts with his sweet and laid back nature. Nox has Feline Atopic Skin Syndrome, an allergy that requires special care and attention. But don't let that deter you from adopting him, as he is currently receiving medication and going to a pet allergy specialist to get tested. With the hope of ending his allergy issues, Nox is a sweet kitty who deserves a loving home. He enjoys bird watching and belly rubs, and his allergy is not food-related, so he can enjoy treats like any other cat. Adopt Nox today and give him the forever home he deserves!  If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. Story
We adopted Teddy from a pet store about 2.5 years ago, he was almost 6 months old at the time. We had 2 other cats when he came home to us and almost immediately the other 2 cats did not take to him well as they were comfortable. Teddy has been a complete sweetheart but my other cat is an Alpha male and his personality clashes with Teddy’s we have tried constantly to have a welcoming home for all the cats together but unfortunately it’s causing behavioral issues and anxiety for Teddy living in the home with 2 other cats. Teddy would be best in a home as the only pet. We have a child that he is good with as well. He is a very sweet, cuddly little kitty but he needs a home where he can have more one on one attention.
