ABOUT ELMIRA Elmira will steal your heart away with one meow! She is a 7-year-old mature beauty with a kitten heart. Elmira came to HAP when she was found as a stray, but it was clear this girl had lived in a home and socialized with people. She absolutely adores being pet, usually following you around waiting to be loved. Elmira is also a chatty girl and enjoys talking with humans, she even has the sweetest meow! In addition to her loving personality, Elmira is quite the laid-back lady, often enjoying a nice afternoon nap or some snacks. Elmira is fairly tolerant of being handled, held, and snuggled. She will use her big girl voice paired with a love tap to let you know if you've crossed her boundaries too far, though this is rare. She has so much life left in her, begging to find her forever home. If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific cat but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! We may require all household members, including children, to come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and a small bag of food to get you started.

ABOUT RUSTY This handsome man is a 4-year-old tuxedo. Rusty came to us from another shelter partner, when they no longer had space to keep him. He is very outgoing and quickly became a volunteer favorite! Every morning, he greets our staff with a big meow and adorable kitty eyes. Our cattery team thinks he knows how to make them feel guilty, with one sad look, they have no choice but to sit with him for some snuggles. This affectionate boy is sure to rub against your leg or curl up in your lap. Despite being a lover, Rusty has his limits and is sure to give you a light tap or nibble to let you know he's had enough. He loves to tell you how he's feeling and what he wants. Rusty enjoys spending his days soaking up some sun and leaning into you for head scratches! **This cat has tested positive for FIV, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Many cats with FIV can live a long and happy lifespan if kept indoors and given routine veterinary care. FIV is not contagious to people or animals other than cats. *To help Rusty find his forever home, a generous donor has sponsored his adoption fee! Story
ABOUT RONITAS Meet our handsome black and white kitty, Ronitas! He came to HAP when he was found as a stray. We attempted to find his owners, but sadly no one came looking for him. Our vet estimates he is about 5 years old and has previously lived in a home, based on his demeanor. Ronitas has a tough exterior and may act like a big boy at times, but spend a few moments with him and he is a sweet man. Ronitas loves to play and chase after wand toys. He often behaves more like a dog than a cat, preferring to tackle and wrestle with any toy that crosses his path. Once he's released some playful energy, he shows off his affectionate side. He enjoys petting and neck scratches. While he can be picked up, he's not a fan of being carried around or held for long periods. Ronitas can be too rough for most other cats, so a home as your only kitty would be best! ABOUT BEAN Meet our sweet little lady, Bean! She is about 2 years old and came to HAP when she was found as a stray. While Bean can be shy with people, she loves to play and cuddle with her feline friends! Bean frequently spends time with one of our longest residents, Rusty, in his free-roam room. The pair can often be seen snuggling on a bed together or lounging on our outdoor catios, bonding over watching birds. Bean still has lots of kitten energy and loves to play with toys. She can be timid with new humans and may hide or scurry away, but with some patience, she is sure to melt your heart! If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. ABOUT MAMA Looking for an extra loving girl? Come meet Mama! This sweet girl is a 2-year-old fluffy tabby with an enlarged heart, literally! Mama came to HAP when her owner became aware of her condition and was not able to care for her. She is the sweetest girl, which makes sense because her heart is extra large. While this may shorten her lifespan, Mama is not in any pain and managed with an affordable medication, that has shown improvements! She is extremely affectionate with all people, leaning in for pets or curling up on your lap. She enjoys sunbathing by the windows, climbing high on towers to observe, hanging with her feline friends, and playing with feather wands! If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT THELMA & LOUISE Thelma and Louise are 10-month-old sisters who grew up in the shelter. Thelma has a beautiful black coat with gorgeous yellow eyes. While Louise is mostly white with unique black markings. They came to HAP last summer when a local rescuer found them abandoned. When they first arrived, they had upper respiratory infections and were extremely under-socialized. Despite their initial worries, they were accepting of treatment and fully recovered! They have done well with other cats at the shelter, though they can still be shy with new people sometimes. Due to this, they are often overlooked by adopters. Once Thelma and Louise are comfortable with you, they blossom into playful kitties. They love interactive toys, especially wormy ones. They also enjoy playing and snuggling with one another. You’ll know they’ve begun to warm up to you if they chase around a wand toy, playing with you too! Louise loves to sunbathe and enjoys a cozy bed. Thelma tends to be the more timid of the two, though they both are much more confident and comfortable together. If you are willing to give them some patience, we know they would make amazing companions! If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
Hello, I am Everest. I came to the shelter after being transferred from HAP, but I as originally a stray. I am sweet but shy. I love to watch the birds flying and to be a couch potato! Come meet me!   This cat has tested positive for feline leukemia. This is a virus that affects the immune system of the cat and can cause secondary and serious illnesses. This virus is contagious to other cats by contact with secretions of infected cats (saliva, blood, urine), mating with an infected cat, or if the mother passes it to her baby during birth. Many cats who become infected with the virus can clear it with a working immune system. Some cats have the progressive form and these are the ones who are terminally infected and have an average life expectancy of 3-5 years after diagnosis.   They are contagious and most succumb to FeLV-associated diseases (such as cancer, severe anemia, etc).  Unfortunately, this cat did test positive for the progressive type of this disease.  This cat should not be housed with other cats who are not also FeLV positive. This is not contagious to humans or non-feline animals.November 4, 2024, 12:42 pm

Story
Rescue Bengal, 2.5 y-o male, ready for his forever home. Pongo is a beautiful brown-rosette Bengal, his fur shimmers in the light. Pongo is neutered, fully vaccinated, and current on all shots as of January 2025: he is FELV/FIV negative. Pongo's former owner abandoned him and we stepped in to foster this amazing cat. Bengal experience will be required. Pongo displays an inquisitive nature with high intelligence, super vocal. He possesses a cunning and playful demeanor with tons of energy. Pongo requires 60 minutes of daily physical activity with a strict wet food diet. And daily mental stimulation is critical to combat boredom. But at the end of the day, Pongo loves to curl up on your lap to snuggle. Pongo loves to explore and is harness and leash trained. Pongo likes to be petted, however, he will gently use his mouth to express when he doesn't like something. *Indoor only - not good with other cats). *Excellent litter box behavior. *Bengal experience req'd. *No children under 15.
