Story
Our barn cat program is for our cats that take part in the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program but can't be returned to their communities because of danger or lack of care. These are our less social cats that don't crave the company of people, at least at this point in their lives. These cats are peaceful, easy to care for, and make friends easily with other farm animals. Pictured is our lovely Chula who was adopted as a mouser for the family chicken coop. The family followed the relocation instructions and Chula became queen of the land! Like Chula, many families that have adopted a barn cat report that the cats have become friendly over time and bonded with the other animals as well has the people. Most often, the cats are delivered in pairs by our volunteer that settle the cats in and provide instructions for you to follow. All agree that it is very rewarding to give a home and freedom to a less fortunate cat who just by chance was born without a human hand. Please fill out our application from our website and call 860-479-5173. Thank you!

Story
Cookie is our stunning, one of a kind beauty who will need a one of a kind person. As you can see in her video she really likes her catnip. She also really loves her foster mom and is always near her and cuddling with her, even under a blanket. Cookie is very possessive of her foster mom so she will not greet you with an arched back and happy tail. It took three days for her to warm up to her foster mom. Now, Cookie doesn't let her out of her sight. We do believe that Cookie has 'only kitten syndrome'. This happens to some kittens when they are taken away too young from their mom and are not around other cats. Mama cats are excellent mom's. They are so loving and they discipline their kittens and show them proper behavior. It's best that kittens stay with their mom's until they are eight weeks old. That's if they are not outside rescues, of course. In that case it's best to get them in as soon as possible to keep them out of danger and to socialize. Cookie does need a home because we can't afford to loose any foster homes. Adopting her would open a spot for a new rescue. That means you are really rescuing more than Cookie. We have kitties on the cold streets that need to come in. Please fill out an application for our beautiful girl at our website www.hucatrescue.org. You will get a kick out of her and lots of entertainment. YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR MEET & GREET THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 21ST. WE WILL BE AT PETCO, 188 KITTS LANE, NEWINGTON, CT. USING THE NORTH SHORE ANIMAL LEAGUE VAN. THE HOURS ARE FROM 1:00-3:00 PM. PLEASE FILL OUT AN APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE PRIOR TO THE EVENT. THANK YOU!

Not good with cats,
Story
Our sweet Annabelle is longing for a home or a foster home where she can shine and not worry about kittens jumping on her or other cats getting in the way of her attention. Anna's story is long and she has endured so much. She came to us from a nice person who took her in when her 'family' left her behind after an eviction. They thought she could live in an old barn nearby and that people would feed her. After some time, old barn was demolished and the kind person took Annabelle in but only to realize that she had a severe cat allergy. A peculiar thing about Annabelle that we noticed was that she did not eat much at all and if she had lived in the barn for months why was she never seen with kittens. Was she spayed or not? Nothing made sense. We waited for her tummy to grow then took her in for an ultrasound. Anna was not pregnant so we made an appointment for her spay surgery. An easy procedure that usually takes 20 minutes took our vet, a respected surgeon, two hours and the incision was the length of her whole torso! Turns out that Anna had a congenital growth around her ovaries that was pushing on her other organs. She could not get pregnant. The years of hormonal roller-coaster also contributed to mammary tumors. Luckily all of the biopsies came back benign. Yes, she's our $1000.00 girl! But, it was worth it. We got answers and we did the right thing for her because it was not her fault. It could all have been avoided if she had only been spayed on time when she was what we can only guess an adorable, spunky teenager. Anna also tested positive for FIV antibodies, another thing that could have been avoided had she been spayed on time and not chased by intact males. There is no doubt that she had pain and much discomfort but good news. Anna is eating like never before. She is enjoying her food and healing well. She's looking great. She has a strong spirit that seems to conquer all challenges. She has just one more challenge and that is to find that special person. Anna craves lots of attention and enjoys lap time and reading. She is quiet and not very active so perfect for a small space. Please fill out an application for our beautiful girl on our website at www.hucatrescue.org. Thank you!

Story
Darius is a 3.5 year old neutered male kitty. He is a very sweet boy that loves to play with his toys, and people. We recently found out that he is a bully to other cats and would do best as an only cat. He is very vocal and he loves to know what is happening and will come find you. He likes his own time and can be nervous with loud noises or quick movements. Even though he likes attention he does not like to sit on your lap. He has a history of crystals in his urine and will require a prescription urinary diet. He also doesn't crouch too low when using his litterbox and needs a covered or high sided litterbox.  Darius is also looking for a foster home. He would do good in a home to himself or in a home that has a spare bedroom that he could stay in. All of our cats are spayed/neutered and current on rabies and distemper vaccines. They are tested for feline leukemia, FIV, heartworm and intestinal parasites including giardia. They have been dewormed and treated with flea prevention.  Our adoption fee is $150. Apply now or reach out to us with any questions! ##1082585##

Story
Tanya is a 2.5yr old short haired petite girl. All her siblings and even her mom has been adopted and she's still waiting for her forever home. She loves to be held and pet and if you aren't paying attention to her she jumps on your shoulders! She loves to play with her toys and her cat friends. She likes looking out the window at the birds too. She's good with other cats and good with older kids. She hasn't had much exposure to dogs though. She does have an underlying viral issue which manifests in her eyes. They will get weepy and crusty when she has a flare up and has to have eye drops.  All of our cats are spayed/neutered and current on rabies and distemper vaccines. They are tested for feline leukemia, FIV, heartworm and intestinal parasites including giardia. They have been dewormed and treated with flea prevention.  Our adoption fee is $200.
