I've been at Safe Place a while now but am still hoping for a home soon. I can be a bit shy at first, but I warm up quickly and am an absolute sweetheart. I was named after a famous lady named Baby Doe Tabor. I'm an independent gal but love playing with the laser pointer and hanging out in a sunny window. I'm not a huge lap cat but once I know the lay of the land, I am near by for attention. I enjoy climbing up on cat trees or wherever I can find a place to go high too. I prefer to be the only cat. Hi I'm Dixie, a 17-year-old spayed DSH tabby female. I arrived at Safe Place several months ago after my owner died alone in her house. Unfortunately, I was left by myself for days at a time in a crate while the family commuted back and forth from another state to take care of necessary arrangements. This caused me to be quite afraid of people. The folks at Safe Place rescued me and after several months of kindness, patience and attention, I leaned to trust and feel safe again. I would do best in a low activity home without other dogs or cats. My favorite things include being brushed with the rubber brush, chasing a laser pointer, and sitting nicely next to you while you give me treats. I'm ready to find another human to be pals with. If you are looking for a sweet, gentle, older cat, Fancy Pants (or just Fancy) is waiting to meet you.  She is affectionate with familiar people but can be timid when presented with strange people, sudden noises, or movements, and in changing or unfamiliar situations.  Once she has acclimated, she approaches a familiar person readily, chirps, rubs around feet and legs (especially shoes), and purrs. She enjoys and invites being petted but isn`t pushy.  She hasn`t shown any indication that she aspires to be a lap cat, and she appears to be uncomfortable with other cats.  Whether she is comfortable with any other pets is unknown.  She would probably do best in a quiet, mature household as an only pet where her boundaries are respected.If you`re interested in learning more about Fancy or setting up a meeting, please contact Fancy`s foster mom, Anne, at akeiley2000@yahoo.com or 719-271-6746. You can sign up to pre-adopt me by placing a $50 choice hold. This is a non-refundable fee that does not go towards my adoption fee, but it does give you the first opportunity to adopt me. I was rescued by a kind Samaritan during our last big snowstorm when I was abandoned outside. My wife and I rescued these sisters from "Look what the cat brought in" at Colorado Springs. We got them at around 7 months old, they are now 3 years. My wife passed away in February 2024. I have decided to do a lot of travelling in 2025 and feel it would be unfair to leave my girls with just a sitter. They are wonderful cats! They have claws but have never destroyed anything except their scratching post! I need them to go together since they are siblings and have always been side by side.

My pet is a rescue cat, her name is Monkae (Monk-Aye) Monkae has a very bubbly and eccentric personality. Very affectionate and needy as well. She constantly follows me around the house and at any interval that you take a seat, rest, or crouch down. She will immediately demand pets or for you to play. When you come home from work she will come up to you and welcome you home with love and demands for pets! Aside from all of that, Monkae does well with other cats. But hasn't had much interaction with dogs. So I'm unaware how she may handle them. She is skittish at first when meeting new people. But once she bonds with you she'll be your best friend/needy pet for a lifetime!
