Story
Big Personality, Heart of Gold, Diva Even if you are gluten-free, we have just the Wheat for you! This girl wants to be near you - always curious about where you are and following you around to stay in the loop. She is reserved initially, but give her a little warm up time and you will see her affectionate side sprout! Wheat likes pets and chin scratches and will rub up against you, give you headbutts with her super cute round head, lovingly purr, and turn happy circles around you. But, she wants to be the one to decide when it's petting time, so watch for her cues! Wheat likes to park herself near you and hang out, but she isn't the snuggly type. Sitting quietly near her humans is just what she needs to feel content and happy. She can be super affectionate but doesn't need you to pet her all the time. When she has had her affection fix, she will let you know. She is happy having some alone time too. Though a Golden Girl, Wheat still occasionally likes to bat toy balls around! And she is super curious, always interested in what is on the other side of that closed closet or bedroom door. She can be chatty if she wants something, but she's generally quiet and self-sufficient. You'll fall in love with her gravelly meow! In her previous home, Wheat was fearful and stressed with the introduction of a toddler who was far too overzealous for this chill girl's taste. She also did not like living with another cat and makes a point of avoiding other kitties. A low-traffic, low stress home would be best for Wheat with adults and older kids only who understand and respect when she wants some loving and when she's done with pets. Ideally, Wheat would be the only pet in the household. This is where she will shine, purr and become your beloved and loyal resident couch potato! Ms. Wheat didn't get to this age without forming some opinions about life and deciding what she likes and doesn't like. She definitely has her preferences and will let you know them! She needs to stay on a special diet to prevent kidney stones. Her food is readily available in local stores as well as online. Questions? Just ask! Wheat has a thick black and white tuxedo and a pink nose with a black freckle! She's such a regal beauty. She simply needs people to give her time to settle in, some places to tuck herself into until she feels safe, and a home that respects her boundaries and welcomes her affection. She is a wonderful cat looking for a wonderful home! How about yours? Contact us to meet Wheat! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Wheat please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Sweet, Affectionate, Food-Motivated Need a new home office assistant? Dwight Schrute is your guy! He's up for any job, especially if it involves giving head boops and greeting everyone he sees with sweet meows. Dwight is a super friendly guy who loves being around people. He loves laying on you and following you around and will snuggle up against you any chance he gets. It's actually incredible how loving and trusting he is of people despite what he has experienced in his past. Dwight came to APA! via AAC after being brought there with wounds on his shoulder and leg. He was tragically a victim of human violence and has a bullet lodged in his spine. Despite the absolutely terrible treatment from humans he has experienced, Dwight has shown that he has learned to love people again and deserves to find the most loving home where he will be spoiled with attention! Because of Dwight's past injuries, he is incontinent with hindlimb paralysis and requires some extra medical care. He needs his human to press gently on his bladder twice a day to "express" it and help him go pee. It is super easy once you get the hang of it, and APA! will show you how! He doesn't need any help to poop; he will just leave little poop nuggets on the floor which are easy to clean up a few times a day. For more information, please contact APA! Dwight has been living with other cats in a group room at APA!, so he can peacefully coexist with other kitties, although he doesn't play or snuggle with them much. He also would rather not have any other kitties try to roughhouse with him. He much prefers the company of humans! Dwight is pretty easygoing and only meows when he's asking for food or greeting people (which he loves to do)! The perfect forever home for Dwight is one with people who have no problem helping him out with his incontinence needs and will give him all the love and attention he deserves! Dwight has been through a lot, but nothing would make him happier than to find his forever home where he can hang out with you throughout the day and curl up next to you for pets and snuggles. Oh, and lots of treats and snacks too! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Dwight Schrute, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
Affectionate, Talkative, Charming Meet Thunderbolt! Check out those fantastic wizard whiskers! His whiskers, gray and white coloring, and slightly disheveled but very soft coat make him look like a wizard in feline form. His fosters think he's a very handsome boy too. This sweet old man cat loves scritches and attention of any kind. He waits for his foster humans at the door, immediately starts talking up a storm when he sees them, and hops up to get pets. He's pretty active for a kitty his age, and he has a lot to say about almost everything. He's an animated and attentive conversationalist. He's quite a foodie, too, and will enthusiastically gobble up his meals. This is especially great because it's super easy to give him medication in his food! He is currently being treated for pillow foot, or plasma cell pododermatitis, a rare condition in which the immune system attacks the paw pads. This causes his paws to become inflamed and sometimes bleed. In addition to his daily meds, his fosters clean his paws with medicated wipes. While he has been APA's care, his condition has improved so now only one paw is still affected. He currently cannot use typical cat litter and instead uses pee pads or even a towel, which works just fine! He came to APA in rough shape with matted fur, but fortunately he enjoys being brushed! Thunderbolt would love to find a home where he can be loved and relax during his golden years. He would enjoy having space to roam and explore, soft spots to nap on, and lots of human interaction. He is such as sweet and personable kitty who wants to tell you all about his day and be near you, and his purr motor revs when he's brushed or petted. His foster can verify that the top of his head is very smoochable too and that his purr intensifies when his head is kissed. If you'd like to have a distinguished wizard gentleman in cat form in your house, reach out today so you can meet him! All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. Story
Shy, Sweet, Learning Meet Poppyseed Muffin, the delicate and gentle soul who's still learning the sweetness of human companionship. With her soft, mostly-hidden presence, Poppyseed Muffin might not be the first to greet you, but her quiet charm is undeniable. Shy as can be, she spends most of her day nestled away in cozy hideaways, watching the world unfold with her wide, curious eyes. She's even been known to let out the softest little hiss, as if she's politely saying, "Hello, please be kind to me!---before graciously accepting head rubs. Though she keeps to herself, Poppyseed Muffin has shown a growing curiosity about her surroundings, and she especially enjoys the company of the foster's resident male cat, often choosing to relax nearby while still appreciating some space. She's not one for playtime or snuggles, but she loves a gentle head rub from a calm hand---a gesture she'll sweetly allow if you take the time to seek her out. In her ideal home, Poppyseed Muffin will thrive with someone patient, understanding, and willing to appreciate her gentle nature without expecting cuddles. She has a lovely, reserved affection for humans who give her space and time. A quiet household with calm, older children or even another friendly, laid-back cat companion would be perfect for her. Poppyseed Muffin may not be the outgoing type, but she brings a unique sense of companionship to those who appreciate her shy but endearing ways. With a gentle approach and a little patience, watching her bloom will be a truly heartwarming accomplishment. For those who believe that love is something worth waiting for, Poppyseed Muffin is ready to be your quiet, steady friend. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. Story
Relaxed, Snuggly, Sweet Meet Chernabog Dance! This loverboy may have a chaotic name, but he is (to quote his foster) "quite literally the most chill cat I've ever experienced." Chernabog Dance is a total snuggler and just wants to love on you. He's big and fluffy so he's basically a giant teddy bear! He does enjoy some playtime, especially tunnels and ribbon toys, but mostly is very calm-natured. This big floof is waiting so don't hesitate! Being a FeLV+ cat, he has had fine experiences with other FeLV+ cats but would likely prefer to be an only cat so he can get all the cuddles he wants. Make sure he doesn't miss out on any by reaching out today! Chernabog Dance has tested positive for Feline Leukemia. FeLV is not a type of cancer. It's a virus that causes a weaker immune system and often a shorter life-span. For the most part, 'FeLVies' are just like any other cat. APA! waives the adoption fees of these cats, and provides FeLV-related treatment and support post-adoption. He can only live with other FeLV+ cats, but dogs and other animals are just fine! Any questions? We'd love to talk with you about FeLV care. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Chernabog Dance, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

Story
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO - Nicky's story starts at 6:55 min. Nicky is an absolute survivor! A homeless man near Skidrow started feeding Nicky when he was already in bad shape. But the homeless man didn't have the means to take Nicky to the vet. He built him an adorable little house made out of a cardboard box and covered with plastic to protect Nicky from the cold and rain. We rushed Nicky to our vet immediately and he was extremely underweight, his skin had sores and scabs all over, he had injured paws and the worst: Nicky had a diaphragmatic hernia. The vet thinks that he had been hit by a car at some point and the hernia kept getting bigger, literally pushing his intestines into his lungs and against his heart. It was a race with time, because Nicky was in such bad condition at first, that he was not a candidate for surgery. But Nicky has a strong will to live and he is a super nice cat! He purrs immediately when you start petting him. He's a quiet guy and loves to eat. With proper TLC and medication, Nicky started to gain weight and his skin cleared up. Just in time for his life saving surgery. Nicky received the operation to repair the hernia at one of the best hospitals in Los Angeles. He's an absolute miracle cat! Nicky is recovering extremely well from the surgery and indulges in eating his favorite foods. Nicky is about 6 years old, so he's fairly young for a cat. He is FIV+ but Leukemia Negative. Nicky could be in a home with another cat or as the only kitty. He's a very patient, loving handsome guy! Nicky would love to have his own home where he would be loved and he could make up for the time of neglect in the streets. Will you make Nicky happy?! Ingrid (512) 980-0105 pcdrapps@yahoo.com
