Hubert is a very nice who came from a farm. He can be aloof at times and gets overstimulated easily. Would be best as a single cat or with a low energy cat.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Butternut came to us as a stray who found himself inside someone’s trap. He was very scared, shaky and hissed a lot. He has come so far and allows us to get close. He is starting to realize he is now safe and that there is always food and water so he no longer eats too much, too fast.   We have been able to pick him up and hold him for a little bit before he gets too scared. He is accepting head and chin scratchies and has showed us his motor! He is becoming more playful and no longer hides in the cat cave! With time, this little guy will make a great pet! And he has the cutest little face and showed us hit little meow now!  He’s come a long way in the short time we’ve had him!   Butternut is from stray surrender. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 15, 2026, 11:44 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Jude: The Shyest Little Legend  Jude is a beautiful little guy who is bravely working up the courage to exist in the same universe as… people. He has made huge progress over the past month, even if he’d prefer we not make a big deal about it. Confidence is coming—slowly, quietly, and only when no one is watching. Jude’s idea of a good time is cuddling in a safe, quiet place, preferably surrounded by his litter mates and cousins, who serve as his emotional support committee. While he occasionally ventures between rooms like a tiny explorer, he generally believes being under furniture is the superior lifestyle choice. Recently, he has leveled up to hanging out in the hallway with the big orange tabby—clearly a major milestone. He is not a people-cuddler yet, but he is a professional cat cuddler and loves snuggling with his little pack. Toys? Unknown. Possibly mythical. Jude has not confirmed their existence. Food, however, is very real—especially wet food. He will purr the moment he hears it being prepared and will absolutely give you the look that says, “Please feed me, mom. I am wasting away.” (He is not.) Jude is very shy and may take extra time to decide that small kids are trustworthy humans. He would likely do best with another confident cat to help show him the ropes and continue building his bravery. Quiet, gentle, and slowly blossoming, Jude is a soft soul who just needs patience, a calm home, and someone who appreciates a glow-up that happens on cat time.  Jude is from an owner surrender with 7 siblings. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Cheyenne is a shy but confident young kitty with a thoughtful, observant nature. He’s the braver of his siblings and often takes the lead, helping other cats feel safe just by being himself. While he isn’t ready for hands-on affection yet, his curiosity and growing confidence show just how much potential he has. Cheyenne absolutely thrives around other cats and strongly prefers feline companionship over human interaction at this stage. He enjoys playtime, exploring his environment, and settling in for cozy naps—especially when another cat is nearby. If approached too quickly, he may give a gentle, claw-free swat to communicate his boundaries, which we admire as excellent self-advocacy. He’s doing wonderfully with routine, eats well, and has excellent litter box manners. With patience, calm energy, and a cat-savvy home, Cheyenne may continue to blossom and possibly welcome gentle affection on his own timeline. Cheyenne is not bonded , but he would love to be adopted  with Spearfish  or into a home that already has a  confident, friendly kitty  to help him feel secure. Sometimes the most meaningful bonds are the ones you earn.  If you have a patient heart, a cat-friendly home, and a resident kitty looking for companionship, Cheyenne and/or Spearfish could be a beautiful addition to your family. Cheyenne is from a stray surrender with 3 siblings. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
