Story
Mojito is really looking for a hero to help her enjoy her golden years. This gorgeous tortoiseshell lady was plucked off the streets of Puerto Rico where she was happily living and was brought to Massachusetts and she is understandably pretty grumpy about it. Our cold, fast paced Northeast vibes just aren`t where it`s at for this Caribbean cocktail kitty. She had a hard time transitioning to life in her previous home which was pretty busy, so we`re thinking a quiet household where she can be the only pet to start would be best for her. It`s possible Mojito may want some access to outdoor time once she settles in to a new family. This kitty will be a bit of a project as she`s a bit unsure of all the change that`s been happening in her life, but whoever takes a chance on her is sure to be rewarded with lots of love. If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed. Preparing your home for your cat ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a cat that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new cat the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston About Holly from her foster home: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Holly is a sweet cat that loves to receive attention and scratches! She is smart, curious, and is also a great sleeper that snoozes throughout the day. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Holly loves getting scratches and pets, and will often come up to you to get pets, especially in the morning and when I come back home from work. She will also accept scratches and pets when she is napping and will make biscuits in her half sleep, which is super cute. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She loves head, chin and cheek scratches the most! She will melt right into them. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn’t seem to enjoy touches on her lower back, or her paws. Does the cat come on your lap? She will step on me to get to things she wants but does not cuddle in my lap. Does the cat like to be held? Not particularly, but she tolerates it for short moments. Does the cat sleep in your bed? She likes to rotate where she sleeps, which includes the bed! In my bed, she liked to curl up on top of my legs or next to me. Sometimes, she will crawl up to my chest and sit there for a moment for extra attention. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, definitely. She wants you to be near her in whatever activity she is doing, even when she is just napping. Sometimes, she will get whiny at night when I am going to sleep, as she realizes she will not be getting my attention anymore. Sometimes, she will jump into the bed with me and hang out nearby, get scratches, and make more biscuits. Does the cat like to play? Holly loves to play, but she gets tired of playing after she hunts the same object a few times. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She likes to catch prey on a fishing rod, and then will play tug of war with me, until she drags across the floor! How vocal is the cat? Pretty vocal. She greets me hello in the morning or when I come back from work, and will meow loudly at nighttime when she wants attention. She can be very loud if she is feeling particularly whiny. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Meows, chirps, hisses (rarely when she feels scared) Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. However, she peed in a cardboard box twice, so I recommend not having empty cardboard boxes lying around the house. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She is currently getting 2 small cans of fancy feast cans daily (breakfast and dinner), and a little bit of dry food before I go to sleep. Is the cat picky about food? Holly is not picky about food, but she doesn’t eat all her portion of food in one sitting. She will eat a few bites at a time and come back to the food over many hours. What is the cat's favorite treat? Holly LOVES Churus. However, she will also enjoy other treats, such as the Greenies dental treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, when she is unhappy, and I try petting or touching her. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes, when she is unhappy, more in the beginning when she was still adjusting to the environment. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Holly will be fearful of new people at first, especially if you are standing or leaning over her. She seems to dislike it when people tower over her. However, if you are willing to sit down, offer a hand to sniff, and give her space in her hiding corner, she will eventually come out to investigate. She will be more receptive of new people if they come with treats as well! Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Holly will nap and hang around her current nap spot for more than 80% of the day. I would say her favorite activity is napping! However, when I come by her nap spot to give her some scratches, she will drop down from her nap spot and follow me around to beg for more pets! She also likes to sit by the window and stare at cars zooming by. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She is a very soft and pretty kitty that looks like a black fluffy teddy bear. If you want a cute, chill companion who is a big fan of attention and scratches, this cat may be for you! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? I haven’t had any big challenges fostering Holly. Small ones would include her peeing in cardboard boxes, which is easily avoided by not having empty cardboard boxes around, and her meowing at night for attention when I am trying to sleep. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Sugar and Spice are a bonded pair of kitten brothers. Here's what their foster humans say about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Sugar and Spice are fun, loving, affectionate brothers, approximately 5-6 months old. They were initially under socialized, but have come out of their shells in foster care. Sugar is the more confident of the two, and loves to play hard and snuggle harder! Spice is a lovebug, who purrs loudly when cuddled, and also likes to play with his foster caregivers and his brother. They are adorable fluff-balls! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, they both enjoy being pet. Sugar will roll over and show his belly during petting, while Spice prefers to be held/be on a lap to be pet. Both are very affectionate and will rub into you while purring loudly as you pet them. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? All over! Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Spice is OK with belly rubs but Sugar is not so sure about them. Does the cat come on your lap? Yes, both enjoy being on a lap for pets. Sugar can get wriggly after a bit, but Spice will stay for a long time! They will come on your lap when you sit on the floor, or you can pick them up and put them in your lap from the floor. Does the cat like to be held? Yes, they both enjoy being held and cuddled. When on your lap, they both sometimes like to nuzzle their head into your elbow or hand. Does the cat sleep in your bed? They have not had the opportunity to do so. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, they both will approach for pets and to be held, rubbing up against you. They really love human contact and interaction and are very affectionate. Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? These boys LOVE to play! They like to play together, playing chase and wrestling each other. They love to play with a wand toy too – we have used this to socialize them and get them used to new spaces. How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Not very vocal. Sugar will meow a little bit for attention, and Spice is pretty silent. Both have mighty purrs, with Spice’s being the loudest. Spice will occasionally growl at Sugar if he gets too close to the wand toy during play. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? We have given them access to vertical scratchers, but they are only just discovering these. They have not scratched at furniture. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, they have excellent litter box habits. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They eat wet (Fancy Feast) and dry (Purina) kitten food twice a day. Is the cat picky about food? Not at all picky. They are good eaters. What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu or other lickable tube treats. We used these extensively when socializing them. They also like Greenies dental treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, during play. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Only in their first few days when we were trying to catch them to pick them up. We then switched to putting them in cages for a few weeks for socializing them, and they did not swat after that. They are now very gentle and well-mannered. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? We have only introduced them to one new person so far and they were surprisingly chill, allowing us to trim their nails while the new person fed them Churu. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? They are a very fun bonded pair. When we released the two of them from cages for the first time, they spent HOURS running around, frolicking and playing together. It was so heartwarming to see! They are also some of the softest cats we've ever pet! In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? They’re a great pair with a lot of love to give. They really enjoy human company and each other. Such a sweet pair of boys! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They were initially under-socialized. They will need an adopter who will continue to work with them and give them positive reinforcement (eg treats) when they make steps forward. They have been on a very steep socialization trajectory and handled this well. We found that having them in a routine of always interacting with them in the same way each time has helped, especially for Spice who is the more cautious of the two until he fully comes out of his shell.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  December 26, 2024, 12:12 pm
