Story
CharlotteI`m almost embarrassed to admit I`m back at the HSHC because my latest owner was moving. I was one of the lucky kitties who lived at the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe (SKCC) for a while and was adopted there. But I only got to live with her for 71 days. I don`t know why I couldn`t go with her, but that`s how it is. I am a curious, outgoing gal with a lovely fluffy orange and white coat. I came from a crowded shelter and was happy to be in this beautiful place. When I was at SKCC, I was the first to greet the interviewer lady (IL), and I rubbed against her leg and encouraged her to pet me all over. As soon as she sat down, I hopped onto the couch for more quality attention. Today, when the IL came to see me, I was busy bathing, but I let her pet me and scratch my ears. She said I looked a little scruffier than I did a few months ago. I don`t think my owner liked brushing my long hair. I am 5 years and 4 months old, litterbox-educated, and already spayed. My favorite things include falling asleep in your arms, playing with toys that make noise, and having lots of your attention. My big turn-off is having my stomach touched! Although I have lived with other cats, I sometimes tolerate them; other times, I get a bee in my bonnet and chase them to tell them to get out of my face. My fantasy is to be a spoiled, only cat. I long for a loving home where I can be the center of attention. I have all my paws crossed to find my forever owner, who will never move without taking me along. 10-8-24

Story
EverlyMy owner surrendered me in late October, along with three other cats, because she was moving. I was frankly happy to come to HSHC, as I have not visited a veterinarian since I was spayed! The medical staff reported that I am a 9-year-old lady cat in good health. I am spayed and good at using the litterbox. But I did have flea dirt in my lovely brown tabby, medium-length coat, which was treated. I received a fantastic review from the medical department. They called me `pur-r-r-r-r-r-fect!` That`s a great recommendation, do you agree? I have lived with five female cats, and though we didn`t snuggle, we were polite roommates. I am now staying at the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe (SKCC), enjoying the wide open spaces and cozy little hiding spots. I am not a wild and crazy kitten; I prefer moderate activities. I am fond of sitting on laps for up to ten minutes, and then I am ready for some alone time. I am excited to go home with anyone looking for a lovely cat with a placid personality and excellent manners. My gentle nature will surely make you feel at ease. 11-19-24

Story
JazzyYou`ve probably heard of cats that don`t warm up quickly and tend to run away when frightened. Well, double or triple those characteristics, and you will have me pegged! My owners adopted me as a kitten from another shelter, and I have lived with my family all my life. I am 2.5-years-old now. Last February, we moved to a new house, which was terrifying for me. The two young children and the two dogs in the home were always a source of fear, and whenever they came near me, I would run and hide. I knew the family meant well when they bought two self-cleaning, robotic litterboxes in addition to the traditional one, but I was petrified by their noise and movement. You get the picture! When a cat is fearful, stressed, and anxious, she often avoids the litterbox as a last-ditch effort to express herself. Therefore, I was surrendered to the HSHC on October 14. Since being here, I have felt alarmed by all the new people, noises, and expectations. I`m using the litterbox just fine, but I tend to hide in my cubby rather than come out and socialize. I give the interviewer lady (IL) a wide berth when she visits, and my eyes are as big as saucers. If I could choose my ideal home, it would be calm and quiet, offering a predictable routine, the kids would all be 12 or older, and I would be given a small space with everything I need as a place I could escape to. If you are a lifelong cat lover, understand how frightened we can become, and have the patience and compassion to let me settle in on my timeline, I sure would like to meet you. I loved the cat that lived with me in my first home, so if you have a friendly kitty, that might be the companion I need to feel safe and comfortable. 12-11-24

Story
I have had a really rough life up until now. My previous owner didn't take care of her animals, and we were often left without food or water and no vet care. I had multiple kittens and few survived. Finally, I was surrendered to this rescue and life improved. I am shy at first because of all I have went through. I am still missing a little fur on my tail from being so matted they had to shave me, it will grow and be beautiful with time. Can you give me the amazing life I deserve?

Story
Please do not send inquiries. These cats can be visited at PetSmart in Carmel/Westfield (14720 US 31N) during store business hours. Applications are available at the store. Rosetta and Clark have a long history with me. I originally got them as kittens from different feral colonies. We put them together when they were about 4-5 months old and they bonded from that point. They spent years with me and were finally adopted by an older couple with an empty house. Unfortunately, the couple divorced, the wife left, the husband lost his job and had to sell the house. Per our contract, the cats came back to us at the husband's request. Clark and Rosetta are now 11+ year old seniors. They could probably use a teeth cleaning sooner rather than later. Rosetta came from a colony in Speedway. Her mother and a brother stayed at the colony (feral), two siblings were adopted. She does love human attention once she trusts you, but will always hiss at you. She just never learned that hissing is only a warning; she thinks it's just a common way to say hi. Clark came from a colony in Indianapolis. His mother was a Siamese, but he is a beautiful black male. He also had a Siamese brother. His brother and mother were adopted to their own forever homes, but Clark is black and shy and was constantly overlooked. We paired him with Rosetta and they became the best of friends. Bonded pairs are even more difficult to adopt. WE WILL ONLY ADOPT THEM AS A BONDED PAIR. We recommend no dogs and no small children. They would do best in a very calm forever home where they never have to move ever again. They do not adjust well to change. Rosetta & Clark are approximately 11+ years old, spayed/neutered, updated vaccines, microchipped and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Adoption fee = $80 total for the pair

Story
Please do not send inquiries. These cats can be visited at PetSmart in Carmel/Westfield (14720 US 31N) during store business hours. Applications are available at the store. Pawtrick & Purrcy are from a feral colony in Clermont that grew up with us in a big mob of 6 kittens. The homeowner had taken care of the colony, then people kept dumping intact cats and the neighbor didn't fix his, so the colony expanded. The homeowner had the adults scheduled to be fixed, and we took the kittens, which she had socialized from birth. These boys spent a month with an adopter, but did not like her at all. They will need time and lots of patience to bond with an adopter. WE WILL ONLY ADOPT THEM AS A BONDED PAIR. Purrcy is the fluffiest boy who sheds like crazy. He is an attention hog. If I am petting his brother, he demands I pet him. He loves to adventure (and can jump!) and be in your business. He is an awesome bug catcher. Pawtrick (short-haired classic tabby) is a shy boy who is insecure. A cat tree with a window view is a must for him. He likes to sit in the tree and look out the window as I give him lots of attention. He has started to ask for attention when his brother is getting attention. These cats have not been around dogs or small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They do great with other cats. Pawtrick & Purrcy are neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Approximate date of birth is March 28, 2023. Adoption fee = $75 per feline ($150 total)

Story
Grayson is an affectionate, playful kitty. He is one of 5 siblings and because of that he hasn't gotten the individual attention, time and affection that he deserves. He will thrive in a home without other pets or children. Grayson needs a forever home that will provide peace and safety for him. He is a good companion, curious and loves to play. He is also not a "needy" kitty. He is content hanging out on his own. Grayson has spent most of his life outdoors. He is a cautious cat and will likely be afraid of a new owner at first. He needs someone who is patient and will allow him time to acclimate to his new environment. Grayson is extremely healthy. Excellent teeth, skin and fur. He has lived on a grain free diet consisting of wet food, raw food, freeze dried foods and limited dry kibble. I care so deeply for this kitty, I want him to have the best life and owner possible.

Story
Doug is a sweet boy that just wants to lay on your lap and snuggle. He likes wet cat food a lot as a treat. He is used to other cats and dogs. I developed an allergy to cats, so I am unable to keep him. It breaks my heart. He is close to five and a half years old now, and I’ve had him his whole life. The only special thing to note is that he is pretty shy. Once he gets used to you, he will just want to be on your lap. But he will hide when visitors are over. He’s never been aggressive with them though.
