Help. That was the cry we heard from a local homeowner who became overwhelmed with a staggering number of cats in the house. S.T.A.R.T., as well as several other rescue groups in the community banded together to help as many cats as possible get a chance at a happy, healthy life. The situation was far from ideal but together we could make it work. One by one the cats were taken out of the home and evaluated, vetted, and placed in foster homes, ready for adoption and a new beginning. Teeter was born in early November, 2023. She is a beautiful tiger girl with a feather duster tail. Teeter was by far the most nervous coming in to foster care but has since blossomed and learned to trust. Give her just a minute and the purrs begin once she gets petted. She is making great progress, allowing us to hold her. Teeter gets along with the other cats and would do well with a companion in her new home. Teeter is vaccinated, altered, FeLV/FIV tested negative and microchipped. Coconut is a big handsome boy, and he knows it. Coconut came to Cameron Animal Hospital after his owner passed away, and he has found the change extremely stressful. He is ready for a new home of his own where he can decompress, and be treated like the prince he is. Coconut is approximately 9 years old. He is healthy, FeLV/FIV negative, fecal tested and preventatively dewormed, and has received the full series of FVRCP (distemper) and rabies vaccines. Coconut can sometimes get overstimulated and become reactive; therefore he needs an experienced owner who knows how to read his behaviors cues and help him decompress. Coconut has previously lived with another cat, and it was reported that they got along well. However at the hospital he has found the presences of other cats and dogs to be major stressors. Therefore we recommend that Coconut be an only pet. Due to his occasional reactivity, Coconut should not go to a home with young children. Despite his stress at the hospital, Coconut is friendly and affectionate with people. He enjoys being pet and getting human attention, and he especially likes treats. Tux and Dakota are two sweet kitten littermates who are looking for their forever homes. They love to play and cuddle, and although they can be shy when they first meet you, once they are comfortable they show their silly, playful personalities. Tux and his sister Dakota came to Cameron Animal Hospital after being found as strays. They are healthy and FeLV/FIV negative. Their adoptions include the following, at age appropriate times- full FVRCP (distemper) and Rabies vaccines; fecal testing and deworming; spay/neuter; microchip. Tux and Dakota are very bonded and must be adopted together. They love to play and cuddle together, and always check in with one another. Tux is the shyer of the two, and follows his sister's lead. If she is comfortable, he knows he can trust whoever is with her, and he relaxes. Although Tux can be nervous in new situations and with new people, he gains comfort from being held and cuddled, and he is always gentle. Tux and Dakota are good with other cats, but don't like dogs. They have not been tested with young children. They can still be a little bit nervous, so would do better in a calmer house, without lots of unexpected noise and movement. Fiorella is a beautiful brown/grey, long-haired tabby that joined the Chance at Life family with her sister Serena, at the end of March 2024 from a municipal shelter at the approximate age of 4-5 months young. There were deemed unadoptable due to their temperament and lack of staff to work with them and were going to be put back outside in Cresskill, as part of a TNR program. We felt they deserved a chance to be socialized in a foster home and hopefully find their furever families. We did have to separate Fiorella and Serena as Fiorella was feeding off her sister's negative and aggressive demeanor, making it hard to work with her. Once separated, Fiorella started to make progress. She still is a "work in progress" but has come a long way. She enjoys toys, treats and being brushed as well as scratches under the chin. Her foster mom can kiss her on the face (all this she accepts while still hissing, lol) Fiorella would do best in an adult-only home with someone who realizes she may never be a lap cat. She is fine with other cats and kittens. Approximate DOB 11/03/23. Up to date with vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. An application does not guarantee an adoption. Our cats and kittens are not adopted on a first come, first served basis, but whom we feel would be the best fit for our cats and kittens.
