Fiorella is a beautiful brown/grey, long-haired tabby that joined the Chance at Life family with her sister Serena, at the end of March 2024 from a municipal shelter at the approximate age of 4-5 months young. There were deemed unadoptable due to their temperament and lack of staff to work with them and were going to be put back outside in Cresskill, as part of a TNR program. We felt they deserved a chance to be socialized in a foster home and hopefully find their furever families. We did have to separate Fiorella and Serena as Fiorella was feeding off her sister's negative and aggressive demeanor, making it hard to work with her. Once separated, Fiorella started to make progress. She still is a "work in progress" but has come a long way. She enjoys toys, treats and being brushed as well as scratches under the chin. Her foster mom can kiss her on the face (all this she accepts while still hissing, lol) Fiorella would do best in an adult-only home with someone who realizes she may never be a lap cat. She is fine with other cats and kittens. Approximate DOB 11/03/23. Up to date with vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and FIV/FeLV negative. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. An application does not guarantee an adoption. Our cats and kittens are not adopted on a first come, first served basis, but whom we feel would be the best fit for our cats and kittens. Mayflower is a long haired beauty who was found as an older kitten at a cat colony with no mom or siblings in sight. She is a very independent gal who will coexist with other cats and mellow dogs, but would also be fine as a solo with her own person there to feed her, pet her, brush her, and give her toys. It took a year and a half for Mayflower’s foster to be able to pet her without food or treats, so her adopter must understand it may take some time before she will allow petting. But once she’s comfortable with you, she will often come to you for love and sit and stare at you when she wants more. While she hates being picked up, she does like to hang out with you by laying next to or near you but never on you. Her foster often refers to her as MayMay the fuzzy muppet because she is quite the character. And just check out her fluffy tail! Mayflower was born around 06/16/2022. My foster writes:I'm ten years old, and I've had a rough time recently. My person died,and there were other changes in my situation that I didn't handle well.Things have been pretty scary and upsetting, and I'm quite shaken.What I would like is a quiet home where I can be my beautiful self andtake things at my own pace. I'm not great with children and I might findother pets scary. I'd do best with calm adults who will respect myboundaries and be very patient with me. I may hide when you first takeme home; even when I start to feel more comfortable, I'll probably spendmost of my time curled up somewhere I feel safe, like a closet.I'm very clean, I use my litter box and my scratching post, and I don'tbreak things. I like people, and once I feel safe around you I'll sit inyour lap and purr. But I'm not always comfortable being petted, and if Iget overstimulated I could scratch or bite.I'm a long-term project. A volunteer writes:When I opened Brownie's kennel door, she was a bit surprised and acted shy. Gentle words, and slow petting won her over and she was quickly leaning into pets and purring(see video). What a sweet and adorable little gal, only six months of age, all shiny ebony and ready to start her life again with a new owner or family. Brownie comes from a house full of cats(thirty five more exactly) and it is not surprising that she appears a bit timid in a shelter environment. She seems to have been loved though and well cared for like most of her housemates. I bet she would not mind being the princess of the house where she would not have to compete with zillions of other felines. Brownie is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.Brownie was in the cubby slightly unsure but sniffed treats and allowed petting. Then she started to enjoy the petting, leaning in gently for cheek rubs. Slowly, she was coaxed out of the cubby with squeeze ups until she was fully out and eating them. She enjoyed more petting and was fairly calm when picked up and held, then she resumed eating once she was set back down. Brownie interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
