Story

Dunia, a natural Persian, came from Egypt at the end of September, born on 01/15/24. She's not getting along with my other kitten. Prior to coming here, she was living with 15 cats, including her mother & siblings. Shortly after receiving her, I found out she was hit by some of the cats, or being bullied. Although she's not getting along with my other cat, she is incredibly sweet with humans. She's very timid, takes a little bit to trust, but she loves to cuddle, loves her head scratches & rubs. She loves to play, watch bird videos. She has never tried to scratch or bite a human. She is litter box trained, loves to eat, highly motivated by food, drinks from a fountain and bowl. She is a super sweet, beautiful kitty, & I am heartbroken that it's not working out. It's not fair to her or the other cat to be confined to separate rooms all day & night. Vet appointment on 10/30 - all good. I want someone to take care of her and treat her well, spoil her, keep her safe.

I am energetic and playful, and I am looking for a family who is excited to keep me busy with appropriate outlets for my energy! I am a snuggly lap cat once I have had an opportunity to settle in. I struggle with transitions so I am looking for an adopter willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in. This may take a couple of weeks or longer, but it will be worth it in the end! My success will be dependent on how well my adopter is able to read and understand my cat-body language. It is recommended that I be set up in my own space (an extra bedroom or bathroom) - a space that people or pets will not use unless going in to clean or feed. I should be left alone initially as I adjust. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to a vertical surface such as a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf. I can gradually be given more access to the home when I am confidently moving about my environment with relaxed body language when my adopter visits me in my room. I may be conflicted about close handling/petting. I should be thought of as a `pet myself on you` kind of cat until I am comfortable with my adopter, versus them coming up to me. Once petting has been initiated, use `consent tests` ... remove hands briefly to give me an opportunity to opt back into pets, or show I am all done. A fear-free vet is recommended since I struggle with close handling for vet care and might need some level of sedation for future visits. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Maple Shade: I came to the shelter as a stray, so we have no history for me. I was very friendly with the person who found me, but I hiss at cats. I have been very friendly here at the shelter, and I was tolerant for my intake exam, requiring minimal restraint. I am a very handsome guy, and I just had dental treatment, so for the next two weeks I will not be fed dry food, or crunchy snacks. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Dodger had a bout with kidney disease and is currently in remission with quarterly testing to check his kidney levels. Update: Dodger is currently awaiting testing for an unidentified upper respiratory issue.
