Her previous owner was unable to afford the necessary treatment, but we’ve taken care of her needs. Lucy had one ear surgically fixed a few years ago, and we've recently addressed the inflammation in her other ear, so she’s all set for her forever home!Lucy is a sweet and loving lady who takes her time to warm up to new people. Once she does, you’ll see just how affectionate she can be! She’s also four-paw declawed, making her a perfect indoor companion. HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is participating in our Shelter Cat Getaway foster program, which gives cats a vacation from the shelter and lets them enjoy home life while they wait to be adopted. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org ---- Beautiful and sweet kitty- Stressed around other cats (happiest as only feline) - Young, noisy or busy children are not a good fit for her, so she's looking for a mature home that's calm and predictable- Loves laying on the window hammock and watching birds and being on the cat tree in her foster home - A very playful cat - she loves chasing balls and playing with wand toys - Is a lap cat, as long as it is her idea, but welcomes petting and will meow for attention; and is very good about letting you know when she has had enough (she gets "squirmy or just jumps down) - Looking for a cat-savvy adopter who can read her body language and give her space and time to unwind when she needs that - Will be a wonderful "companion cat" for someone who wants an independent cat to love and care for, and who doesn't require a snuggly lap-sitting cat- This cat is currently taking a prescription medication to help with her anxiety (more information at the ARL)- This cat has shown signs of overstimulation while in the shelter. Lots of handling, playing with hands, and excessive petting can cause them to overstimulate, which can result in scratching and/or biting. This cat is looking for experienced cat owners who will watch this cat's body language while interacting to note signs of overstimulation (tail waving, fur rippling, dilated pupils, ears turned back and quick body movements) and be willing to respect their boundaries. This cat will also benefit from interactive toys such as wands and ball spinners while playing. We are happy to speak with you more when you visit and can provide post-adoption resources.
