Meet Irv- The Sweetest Companion Looking for a Loving Home! Irv is a loving and affectionate cat who is ready to find his forever home. I rescued him from under a deck in 2021, and since then, he has been the most loyal and cuddly companion. He adores snuggling up with his person but is also independent and content doing his own thing. Irv has a sweet and gentle personality; loves attention, but he also respects your space. Whether he’s curled up in your lap or lounging nearby, he is always happy just being close. He would thrive in a home where he can get plenty of love and care. If you’re looking for a cat who is both affectionate and independent, Irv could be the perfect fit for you! Let me know if you’re interested in giving this sweet boy the loving home he deserves.

Story
Winston ChurchillI cannot describe myself accurately without using a term the interviewer lady (IL) invented-- a Furman. I am a 7-year-old, solid white male DSH. I consider myself a small, furry human with four legs and whiskers. A Furman does not care for or appreciate the company of animals. I first arrived at the HSHC as a stray cat in 2022. At that time, none of us knew how strongly I adhered to my belief in being a Furman. I have been adopted twice and surrendered twice due to my preference for humans. Particularly adult humans and children over 10 years old. I can become overly stimulated during petting sessions. Many cats have this reaction, and we count on our owners to read our body language well. Don`t get me wrong. I do enjoy being held, cuddling with you, and rubbing you for attention. It is just that, for some reason, my nervous system can get a little wonky or overly sensitive, and I need everything to stop. Babies, toddlers, and youngsters are not skilled in interpreting my nonverbal signals. The IL just witnessed a fantastic session I had with a volunteer. I was absolutely eating up all the attention, petting, scratching, and loving attention she gave me. I did not feel overwhelmed, and I continued to encourage her petting. The IL has also had great sessions with me where I rubbed my head against hers about 100 times. So I can be an absolute love bug! Here is the essential message: I need to be your only pet, live with kids older than 10, and have an owner who reads my body language well. By the way, I contracted FIV, a retrovirus that weakens my immune system. This is no big deal because the FIV virus cannot infect humans or other animals, and FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives when given the proper care, diet, veterinarian visits, and indoor life. 2-25-25

Story
MochaI am so pleased that the interviewer lady (IL) corresponded with my foster mom. She can post an updated story about me. In July, my owner surrendered me to HSHC because I was terrified of everything! The other cat, the dog, the children, and even the adults frightened me into hiding. I am an 8-year-old female kitty who never learned to become a social cat. However, since being in my foster home, I`ve made significant progress. My foster mom says I hide in the bedroom throughout the day, but I`ll come out in the evening to eat and explore the house. I like to eat at night when everyone is asleep, but sometimes I make an exception. I enjoy dry food over wet. Since being in my foster home, I`ve learned to love belly rubs and cuddling on the sofa or in bed. However, it is only when I seek it out, not when you instigate contact. I am comfortable with humans if they don`t make too much noise. I like a calm vibe in the house. Toys are not my jam; I prefer roaming the house if it is quiet. I use my litterbox without fail! I want to be relaxed and confident with people and learn to be social and outgoing. This will take a patient person who understands my fears and will give me the time and space to settle in. A quiet home, where everyone is 10 or older, is a must. I would appreciate being the only 4-legged family member, at least for a while. The IL knows that I crave affection and attention. Now, I need to find an owner to help me become the cat I want to be. 12-2-24
