Story
Introducing Minerva! Minerva, affectionately known as "Minnie," is a sweet and sensitive 5-year-old longhaired tortoiseshell looking for a very patient and understanding adopter experienced in helping shy cats blossom. Minnie lost her lifelong home when her elderly guardian moved to a residence that couldn't accommodate pets. This life change was traumatic for Minnie, and while she is making strides, she needs time and love to fully adjust to new surroundings and people. After a long period of patience and care in her foster home, Minnie finally felt safe enough to enjoy sitting on her foster mom's lap, and now, it's a cherished part of her daily routine. She loves her quiet evening bonding time, purring contentedly as she soaks up the affection. Once she trusts you, Minnie becomes a gentle and loving companion. She's also wonderfully well-mannered, with impeccable litter box habits, a healthy appetite, and excellent grooming skills. Minnie would thrive in a calm, indoor-only home without children. She would be happiest as a single pet but might coexist peacefully with a gentle cat or dog that respects her need for space. Small, cozy areas are her safe havens, though she also enjoys a cat tree or a sunny window to watch the world go by. Minnie adores her hideaway box and may always prefer its comfort when she needs a moment to herself. While she's not a fan of being picked up and will need mild sedation for vet visits, Minnie's quiet charm and gentle spirit make her incredibly rewarding to love. Shy cats like Minnie have so much to offer, and in the right home, she will repay your kindness with a lifetime of gratitude and heartwarming purrs. Minerva is currently in a foster home. A meet and greet can be scheduled once an online application has been submitted and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org today to complete an online application.

Story
Introducing Watson! This talkative boy was recently returned to AFRP with his adoptive brother Chip due to no fault of their own after being adopted from us as kittens! Watson is quite a lively and talkative kitty who loves to let you know when it's time to play or get pets, both are frequent requests! Watson's playful side often leads to daytime zoomies, and his happy trills are sure to bring a smile to your face. Watson has been totally happy playing with a simple piece of string, will try out almost any toy, and has recently decided that a Kong cat brush is the best thing ever invented - purr, trill, look sideways and meow loudly at foster mom if she stops brushing! Both cats accommodate their foster mom's morning coffee time, but Watson can't understand why she might later be on a computer instead of playing with him ... so he creates his own games to lure her away. Watson also chatters (specifically) at the sight of crows. Watson is bonded with his brother Chip and must be adopted with him! He and his brother both enjoy lounging on cat trees and towers, and they love watching 'cat TV'-birds, squirrels, and people walking their dogs through the window or sliding door. They even show off their hunting skills by chasing the occasional fly around the apartment! Watson's preferred home is with adult adopters or families with cat-savvy children over 15. It is unknown at this time how he would do with other animals in the home as he has only been housed with Chip. Watson is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our online dog application.

Story
Fiyero is the senior, long haired kitty looking for a soft, sweet landing spot to call his own. He came into the Shelter from a not so great situation but after arriving at the Shelter, he got all the TLC and care to help prepare him for adoption. This senior guy has a literal heart of gold with the looks to match. Every volunteer and staff member has commented on how he comes up to people and makes muffins on their laps till his heart is content. He has experience living with other kitties and would likely do well with a chill cat companion (after a slow introduction). Fiyero is looking for a special guardian that has the resources to care for a senior cat as he may require more frequent vet visits to ensure he stays in tip-top shape. Come meet this dreamy guy today! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Come on in to the Owl House and give a warm hello to the adorable Hooty and Owlberta! We found these two adorable sisters as kittens abandoned and struggling, so we took them in and just look at them now! They are the closest of sisters, yet in some ways couldn’t be more opposite and complimentary too! Owlberta is short hair and very much a cat’s cat. She loves hanging out with other cats (not just her sister) and she loves playing, hunting, or chasing after her friends. Occasionally, she’ll be willing to grace a human with her presence, but she would much prefer the company of other cats instead and, if anything, you’ll be lucky to catch a glimpse of her as she’s playing. Her long-haired sister Hooty is in some ways the polar opposite, at least when it comes to humans: she will immediately run up for love, push against you for pets, or if you’re leaning back in a chair, she will gladly put her paws on your chest and demand your full love and attention! Yet she loves to play with other cats too, especially but not exclusively with her sister. While you won’t always find them hanging out with each other, they will absolutely play or wander together, and if you separate them, they will both let you know how unhappy they are, so we consider Hooty and Owlberta a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. They might be yin and yang in personality, but these two quirky sisters deserve to find a loving furever home, so will it be yours? They are spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and ready to go today! Hooty and Owlberta are about 1 year old.

Story
Do you have room in your heart and home for a sweet, senior, independent kitty? Meet Cali, who came to Cat Crew after her owners moved out of state and her new home fell through. This sweet old gal is looking for a simple life. She just wants to live out the rest of her days lounging with her humans, getting pets/head scratches, and enjoying some catnip. It was discovered right before her previous owners moved that she has hyperthyroidism, which requires medication applied to her ears twice a day and a blood test twice a year. Cali is 12 years old and would prefer to be the only pet in her new home. Cali will be spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Cali is about 12 years old.

Story
Larry is a very special, special needs cat! Emaciated, sick and looking for help, he befriended a family who in turn asked for help for him. Blood tests came back positive for FIV but Larry captured the hearts of the vet staff and his care givers and it was decided he would be given the chance at a happy life. Larry is a big, friendly, talkative guy who loves nothing better than your attention, a good conversation and a belly rub. His favorite pass time is relaxing and sitting with his people. His congestion is so thick and we’ve found a comfortable dosage to keep him breathing. But the lack of progress led us for more vet appts. He underwent a dental to remove a couple teeth where we had hopes of finding polyps as the reason. He has a broken nasal passage is in need of surgery to repair nose damage which would need to be with a specialist (ideally but he is comfortable). He takes daily medication to avoid infections. Larry will be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Larry is about 1 year old.
