Story
This is Sally. She and her siblings found refuge and warmth in the engine compartment of a U-Haul truck during a move across town. When the customer returned the truck, it was discovered that she was the only survivor. Her initial trip to the vet for an exam turned into coming home with us. Sally is shy at first, but warms up to anyone. She is friendly to other cats but may be best as an only cat. She is as soft as cashmere. Loves chin scratches, calm chats and cuddles on her terms.

Story
Smudge was rescued during TNR after a woman was abusing him pretty badly. We knew he had a sweet soul and put him straight into foster. SMudge is very shy at first given what he has been through, but we are hoping there is a family out there who will give him the patience and love he deserves. His foster mom loves him so much and wrote some info on him below. He will take the pets and even pur if enough is given to him. He loves it He prefers to cuddle with the other cats He gets along well with other cats He likes chilling on the catio, and sometimes he even sings a cat song there He is okay with dogs He is not okay being picked up Even though his fur is fluffy and soft and it'll tempt anyone to want to pick him up for a hug. He will not tolerate this much attention though, Normally he's just a quite cat, that chills on window ledges and catios , or even the cat tree, He's not a picky eater so you can feed him anything cat food :)

Story
With her luxurious black and white fur and brilliant green eyes, Oakland is as beautiful as she is resilient! She was rescued in Oakland, CA at just 7 weeks old. She was born with deformities to all four legs: her front legs were able to be corrected as a kitten, leaving the back two that now point in unique directions, but that doesn’t slow her down for a second! With proper medical care and a ton of love and time to grow, she has become a funny, strong, and independent girl. She does take a moment to get used to new faces–although she doesn’t love to be held and carried around, she does love attention from people and other cats! For Oakland to have a full life at home with you, she needs you to continue her monthly Solensia injections and weekly Adequan injections for her arthritis in her back legs, and she needs cat trees in order to climb, but she is otherwise completely independent! Oakland would be happy as an only cat, or with a companion: She grew up with the other adoptable HOBC cats, and would love to bring one of her lifelong friends home with her! Cats with special needs like Oakland’s require at least some extra time, attention, and financial consideration than the average cat, and we want to ensure that you and Oakland will be an excellent match! Please fill out an application and email it to us at houseofbrokencookies@gmail.com. From there, we will contact you for a phone interview, and arrange a meet-and-greet. Thank you for considering this beautiful girl! Prior to adoption, all cats have the following services: *Spay or Neuter *3 in 1 Vaccination *De-wormed *Treated for fleas *Tested for FIV/FELV *Micro-Chipped

Story
Hi, I’m Angelique.  My 3 littermates and I were rescued from the street in Seal Beach when we were about 2 months old.  We were all very scared as we hadn’t been around people before. At first, we were considered feral, but we were sent to a foster home and calmed down quite a bit.  My foster home had other kittens, big cats, and dogs. I loved the big cats and was fine with the kittens but the dogs scared me. I don't welcome pets or being picked up. I am a shy girl and get scared easily so I need a quiet forever home with another cat or kitten and a family who has lots of patience and will give me plenty of time to adjust to a new environment. Story
Hi, I’m Annie. I was rescued from the Seal Beach Jetty along with my friend Mercedes way back in 2015.  We both went to a foster home for a couple of months and slowly learned to trust humans. Then we came back to  SBACC and after a while, we were both adopted by a volunteer.  Sadly, Mercedes crossed over the Rainbow Bridge a while ago and I lost my home because my adopter couldn't interact with me.  I am very shy and don't allow petting or handling. I'm comfortable here and wouldn’t mind living out my senior years where I'm loved and cared for by a wonderful team of volunteers and staff.  Maybe if the right person came along, I could adjust to a new home, but after all this time at SBACC, it feels like home.November 5, 2024, 10:53 am

Story
Hi, I’m Margaret Mary.  I was rescued from someone’s porch along with my five five-day-old kittens.  I came to SBACC and then went to a foster home but was so protective of my kittens that I wouldn’t let my foster Mom near them or me. So we all came back to SBACC and I nursed and raised my kittens in a special back room at the shelter.  Once the kittens were eating on their own they went to a foster home and I stayed at the shelter to get ready for my forever home.  I’m a very friendly girl and the people who originally found me said I would sit on their laps and eat from their hands.  I’m now ready to do that with my forever family.  One more thing I should tell you.  I’m FIV+.  It’s not that big a deal.  Despite what many people think, cats with FIV can live long, healthy lives and it’s not contagious and can’t be transmitted from cat to cat by sharing food, water, or litter boxes.  I sure hope I don’t have to wait too long for my forever home. Story
Hi, I’m Joy. I was just three weeks old when I was found in the grass along a sidewalk of a busy street.  I was in critical condition and went to the vet soon after arriving at SBACC.  I was infested with fleas, was anemic and dehydrated, and had an eye infection and a URI.  I went to a foster home where I was nursed back to health.  I was very scared at first, but I came to love my foster Mom.  I’m shy around people I don’t know, but I was a friendly girl with my foster mom, and I loved to take naps on her lap.   My foster Mom called me a sweetheart, and given time and patience, she says I will make a wonderful lap kitty. Shortly after I was ready for my forever home, I came down with ringworm, and it took months before it was gone.  So now I’m a teenager rather than a kitten.  I get along fine with my roommates, but I often play by myself rather than with them, so I would probably do fine as an only kitty.  However, I wouldn’t mind going home with another teen or young cat or going to a home that already has one. Story
Hi, I’m Debbie Hairy.  When I was rescued from the street and brought to SBACC, I was given the silly name of Debbie Hairy because I have long hair.  I’d be happy to have you change my name when you adopt me.  I’m a friendly girl, but right now, I’m hanging out in my cubby and acting kinda shy.  A photo-taking volunteer coerced me out of my cubby to get a pic showing more of me, but I didn’t stay out for long.  I just need a little more time to get used to being in a new place. Story
Meet Bernard! Bernie is a gentle and loving 9-year-old neutered Maine Coon looking for his forever home. We rescued him about a year ago after he was abandoned, and he’s now healthy, flea-free, and thriving! As a senior cat, Bernie enjoys the simple pleasures in life—napping in sunny spots, cuddling on laps, and taking the occasional stroll outside. He’s both indoor and outdoor trained, though he prefers the comfort of being indoors. Bernie does great as a solo companion, as he came from a home where he lived alone. However, in our home, he has shown he’s good with kids, tolerant of other cats, and even pretty relaxed around dogs (as long as they respect his space). This sweet boy would do best in a quiet, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years in peace. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion, Bernie is your guy! Ready to meet Bernie?
