Story
95 pounds of pure love (though the vet says he could lose a view) and a true gentle giant. Draco continues to prove he's the best dog a family could ask for as a sweet, affectionate couch potato. Draco is one of our longest residents in the rescue with 720+ days and counting of waiting, oh so patiently waiting, for his forever home. We don't want him to loose hope. Draco has watched many of his foster siblings come and go to their forever homes. He's always excited when he has a new friend to play with but sad when they leave.  Draco was initially found scrounging for food in a part of San Antonio known for its complete disregard for decent human kindness towards animals. Not only was he incredibly malnourished but he was so dirty from living on the streets- you couldn't tell what his true fur color was. Draco had been let down by humans. Thankfully he was so pure of heart and trusting that he allowed his rescuer to save him and give him another opportunity at life. Draco absolutely loves being outside and soaking up the sun on beautiful days, as long as it's not too hot and not too cold. Draco can act like toddler and throws temper tantrums when he’s not ready to go inside. He loves getting belly rubs and snuggles whenever they are offered. Draco is very patient with children- his foster home has a 7 year old who enjoys playing fetch and chase with Draco in the backyard (although he does have to consistently be reminded that the point of the game is to bring the ball back!). Draco is working on leash manners and does better on a harness when walking. Draco is good with dogs big and small, but prefers any large male dogs to be submissive. Draco is crate trained but would rather be hanging with you on the couch or outside. Draco's only flaws are that he needs to be fed separate from his furry friends, is really cute, and is not a fan of sharing his toys. After being starved on the streets he is still scared he doesn't know when he'll get his next meal or that it will be taken from him. But this big boy is ready to give you all his love! Good with dogs and kids. NO CATS PLEASE! Draco is currently being fostered in San Antonio and looking for an adopter or committed foster to adopt to hop on the transport to Denver scheduled for January. ##2237162##

Story
Meet Enzo, the most handsome, curious, playful, and cuddliest guy who is just waiting to fill the role of someone's Best Friend Forever.  He loves playing tug of war and fetch, and when he's not snuggling up on you, he will either be rolling around on his back or romping away in the snow. Enzo is approximately two years old, so while he still has some puppy energy, he is very eager to please, and picks up on training quickly-- he already has the basic commands and crate training down pat! He would do best in an active home with a high-fenced yard (he's a leaper!) with a family that has strong leadership skills and knows how to firmly set boundaries. He LOVES other dogs and could spend hours wrestling with a (more submissive) playmate.  ##2283366##

Story
Meet Chico, a sweet and playful dog who’s ready to find his forever home. Chico loves having fun, whether it’s chasing after a ball, going for walks, or just enjoying quality time with his favorite people! Though he’s full of love, Chico can be a little sensitive at times, so he’s looking for a calm home where he can feel safe and secure. Older kids who understand his need for patience and gentleness would be the best fit for this lovable pup. Chico is ready to be your new best friend. What I Need In a Home:* Older children recommended

Story
Cash is a gentle giant who is quiet and smart. He is a friendly adult dog who is low energy and gentle with people and other dogs. Cash is looking for a pet parent who can give him lots of love and companionship. He enjoys relaxing on the couch and taking walks. Cash is a wonderful dog and will make a great addition to your family. His favorite activities include leisurely strolls, naps in the sun, and snacking on his favorite treats. He's a well-behaved gentleman who's always eager to please. Cash is a very loyal companion and forms deep bonds with those who show him love and care. He is a great listener and provides a lot of affection. Cash would be the perfect fit for a household looking for a calm and gentle companion. If you're looking for a furry friend who will be your loyal companion, Cash is the perfect fit for you! Cash was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2289670##
