Story
Puppies are a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility! Things you should be aware of before adopting a puppy from the Denver Animal Shelter:* Puppies will need regular socialization. The critical time period for socialization is between 8 and 16 weeks, but it is important to continue to socialize your new pup throughout their young life. This means having positive and enjoyable interactions with as many new people, new dogs, and new environments as possible. Appropriate socialization will help puppies grow into healthier and more social adults.* They will not know what is appropriate to chew on, where they should go to the bathroom, and how to behave in all situations. Puppies require a lot of time spent on training, management, and supervision. It is recommended that puppies be crate trained or kept in a puppy-proofed room of the house with appropriate chew toys and enrichment when not actively supervised. The Denver Animal Shelter always recommends positive reinforcement-based training methods. * Puppies in a shelter environment often have unknown parentage. While we make our best guesses on size and breed, we cannot guarantee their adult temperament, behavior, size, or characteristics.More about this puppy:

Story
Meet Miss Eloise – The Sweetest Momma Dog Eloise is a true survivor and an inspiration to everyone who meets her. Her journey has been incredibly challenging, but through it all, she has remained gentle, loving, and full of heart. We tried to rescue Eloise directly from the LA shelter as she was scheduled to be euthanized, but she was adopted before we could get to her. Sadly, but with good intentions, the adopter brought home both Eloise and another dominant female Cane Corso. Without any gradual introduction or separation, a serious fight occurred between the two girls shortly after. Eloise, already exhausted and weakened from her past, received the worst of it and was unable to fully protect herself. Thankfully, we saw a post from the adopter asking for help, and within hours, one of our dedicated volunteers had her safely in our care. Eloise’s challenges didn’t end there. She had been bred nearly to the point of exhaustion, and after just one day with her foster mom, it was clear she was very sick. At the ER, we discovered she had injuries from the fight, pneumonia, pyometra, bilateral ACL tears, and a belly full of puppies. Her resilience is truly astonishing. Even after returning home from her first ER visit, she experienced setbacks and required multiple nights of IV fluids and medications. Through it all, Eloise has been nothing short of a champion, calm, sweet, and loving. Today, she’s thriving in her foster home. She has some pep in her step and a much happier dog. About Eloise • Personality: Gentle, affectionate, resilient, and loving • Health: Recovering from serious injuries and illnesses; thriving in foster care • Dog Compatibility: Not fully evaluated with other dogs due to her recovery. A quiet home with no other pets is ideal for now, though she may be compatible with a friendly male dog in the future after reassessment • Ideal Home: A calm, loving environment where she can feel safe, relax, and enjoy the affection she deserves Eloise has endured so much loss, neglect, and hardship. Now, she’s ready for a home forever where she can finally feel safe, loved, and cherished. Could your home be the perfect place for Miss Eloise to thrive? * Champion snuggler seeks cuddlecompanion(s)* Faster than a greyhound (maybe)* Medium energyLoves hikes, walks, laying in the sun, snuggling, cats, dogs (especially little dogs), treats, sitting, shaking7 years old62 lbsMicro chippedJust had his teeth cleanedCurrent on vaccinesDrake is a mellow "sun pig" who likes to sunbathe, snuggle and show you his toys. He is an incredible dog! We went and had a kid, and their chaotic energy is stressing Drake out. They jump onto him, pull his tail and get into his face. All incidents have been strongly provoked by our kiddo. He has nipped them but has never broken skin. For clarity, Drake did well for 5 years with our kid, but now our kid is getting more advanced with how they are engaging with him. Its too long a road until our kid will have a fully formed frontal lobe.Drake deserves a home where he can feel safe and is best for a home with adults or children old enough to have impulse control. Adoption fee will be donated 2 a local pet rescue!
