Story
Are you looking to have your dog skills and experience challenged? Do you have the patience of a saint? Then Mighty is ready to test you. Seriously, he’s an 8.6 magnitude earthquake in a city without building codes. He is a rainstorm on a herd of Gremlins, after midnight… with a plate of food. For example: 1. Speaking of rainstorms – he hates them. As well as fireworks. Just about any loud, new, or odd noise scares him. He is even afraid of his farts. 2. He has the leash manners like some of those shoppers on Black Friday. You know, where the store is giving away an item to the first 200 guests. He just gets so excited sometimes he feels the need to jump up and grab the leash and walk himself. 3. Mighty has an allergy or several. No chicken for sure and probably no other poultry. Grains make him itchy, and sometimes he gets pink. 4. He’s one of those “blocky headed” dogs… pit balls, pot bois, pibbles, poblanos, whatever. 5. He’s nervous with new people, and he warms up to women quicker than men. Do you know that site with all the dogs who love the UPS guy? Mighty will not likely be making an appearance on that site. Here are some things we also know about Mighty. He completely loves his people. Once you’re in, you’re in for life. He likes to make new people friends, too, and that takes some time and treats… and those are treats without caramel color, because you know, the allergies. He loves attention, training, and showing his set of learned skills. He likes drinking from the hose, being outside with his people, and helping with yard work. If you have sticks, he’ll chew them. If you’re pulling weeds, he’ll shake them and spit them out…mostly. With patience, proper introductions, and some training, Mighty possibly could live with another dog. He previously lived with a female dog and a cat! He has not had the best of experiences with other animals since then, so we tend to err on the side of caution. We’ve loved this guy from the moment we saw him tied to a tree with a note stating, “My name is Mighty, …just tell me it’s OK Needs a good home and lots of love” We’ve come a long way from where he wouldn’t go near the car, wouldn’t go up or down the stairs, and only went outside to do his business. He now, cannot wait for the next car ride and uses the stairs like Rocky. (Except for the basement stairs, they’re still scary.) We’re not going to lie though; his forever home is one in a million. His new home will require experience, management, smarts, time and dedication. As they say, nothing worthwhile comes easy and nothing that comes easy is worthwhile. Mighty is a sweet, playful, loving dog, and is very loyal in his devotion to his people. He has quite a few quirks, but hey, who doesn’t? He has a long life ahead of him, and deserves an active, loving home that will always tell him, it’s OK.

Story
Meet Theodore Winston, "Theo" for short who came to Canine Cupids from Chicago where he was found wandering the streets. Theo was emaciated, scared and spent two months in the shelter where he became a volunteer favorite because of his sweet nature and handsome looks. Theo loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys the company of other dogs. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on weekly injections to help ease the pain. Theo needs to take it easy when he is playing, and walks should be not very long. Theo is a lover of sunbathing on his foster mom's patio. With his strong wiggly tail, he would not be suitable in a home with small children. If you are interested in Theo please fill out an application today!

Story
Say hello to Davey, the smartest dog you will ever meet! Davey is a 4yr old mix of big ears, tail wags, and smiles. He had a rough start to his little life but it has not broken his spirit. His happy smile will lift your spirits on the dreariest of days. Found on the streets of Chicago, Davey hasn't had consistency in his life until now. So, as amazing as he is (and he truly is) Davey still needs work on some training to learn to not get overly excited when seeing new dogs and alarm barking at strange noises. His foster home is working with a behaviorist and Davey has made amazingly fast progress! We expect him to live up to his full potential. This 45 lb bundle of sillies is searching for an active household to enjoy running, hiking, and agility with and come home to quiet snuggles on the couch. Davey's favorite toy is every toy but especially the thesaurus. He is intelligent, inquisitive, curious, adventurous, brilliant, agile, spry, nimble, fascinated, eager, enthusiastic, voracious for knowledge (and treats!) Davey loves any and all treats and with his love of playing, hiking, and agility he needs all the snacks. When we say Davey is smart, you wonder, how smart is he?!? Well he isn't a rocket scientist but he learns just about anything! He knows Sit, Stay, Paw, Other Paw, Down, Wait, Touch, Up, Off and is crate trained and bell-trained for potty time. Davey needs a family to stimulate his exceptional little brain. Like a genius kid who will act up if they are bored in school; Davey will always find a way to entertain himself. But, with a nice long walk or run in the morning, a doggo pal to wrestle with, and a bone to chew on during the day, Davey is a well- behaved happy boy. Davey loves to romp and play with other dogs after a slow introduction to get comfortable. He runs and wrestles and tugs with boundless energy. He will do best in a home with a confident, playful, medium energy dog who wants to play but also cuddle. Davey has not lived with cats but is good with children of all ages Adopt this sweet silly smart boy today. Davey is in need of a foster home. If interested, please reach out to www.caninecupids.org/adopt. You’ll love all the cuddles - guaranteed

Story
Rosemary (Rosie) has a heart bigger than her head – an impressive feat for a blocky-headed dog. She leans her whole body into cuddles and will bring her toys right to your hand, wiggling in excitement to play with you. She can also read your energy and knows when to self-entertain if you’re not in the mood to play. She is moderate energy – she loves to run and play, but also tires out quickly, so no need to worry about multiple-hour walks. As long as she can get her energy out, Rosie would likely be fine with kids who are old enough to respect her boundaries and not get knocked over by zoomies. She is fully potty trained, and tolerates her crate but is left free-roaming at her foster home with no issues. Despite being a sweet and loving dog, the world can be a scary place for Rosie – full of sudden movements and unfamiliar places. People are her anchor – from friendly strangers she happily greets at a bar to the full trust she builds with her humans, everything seems a little bit better when she has people to show her she’s safe. The biggest part of keeping Rosie safe is regulating her interactions with other dogs. She has had several negative altercations with dogs in the past, and her continuing fear of dogs manifests itself as reactivity. She is muzzle trained for her own safety, and needs someone who can handle how hard a 50lb dog can pull on walks and help her keep her distance from other dogs who may be out. Because of this fear, Rosie would be easiest as an only pet. However, she has happily lived with another dog in the past, and with lots of time, commitment, and patience, she could potentially be integrated with another dog in the future. The biggest factor would be humans who respect and enforce her boundaries and are committed to setting her up for success. Rosie has not been tested with cats or other smaller animals, but would likely have similar needs – slow integration, trust that her boundaries will be respected, and the ability for both her and the other animal to get space from each other if needed. Rosie has a lot of love to give, and is ready to build her foundation with her forever home. Could that be you?

Story
Aggie is looking for a super special forever home for her super special self! Her perfect home would include: -Slow, leisurely strolls (no long distance hikes here!) -Her being your only dog, and preferably no cats -Comfy bed -Older kids would be okay -Lots of love and patience And one more thing, finding someone who has no issue loving a BLIND dog!! She has adjusted very well to being blind and doesn't let it slow her down. Being blind does come with some differences compared to owning a fully sighted dog: -lots of noise can overwhelm her -she doesn't enjoy dog on dog interactions so these need to be avoided (meaning, she doesn't want to go to a bunch of dog-friendly places and socialize) -you have to talk alot to her and make silly noises so she knows where you are -she needs a consistent daily routine, preferably with a family who is home most of the time. Aggie has also had two surgeries this past year to help with breathing issues. She has recovered from them but has some additional requirements because of them: -limited activity on hot or humid days -needs elevated food and water bowls -no swimming -does better with some wet food mixed with her dry kibble for meals and softer treats If you believe that you could be her perfect match, please fill out an application and meet the bestest blind dog around! Fill out your application today!

Story
My name is Vinnie and I’m 70 pounds of pure love. I love snuggling my foster parents and mom says I’m a bed hog, whatever that is! My favorite activity is going for car rides; I'm an excellent co-pilot and give great directions to the treat store. Since I'm only 4 yrs old, I would love someone who would commit to continuing with my training. I'm an A+ student but since I get very excited around other dogs, I would prefer to be the only dog in the house and have all the lovin's for myself. I know sit, ask to go out for potties, and am working on my leash manners, but I am still fresh out of the shelter, so this is all new to me. My foster mom says it's probably best if I don't live with kiddos under the age of 12 or kitties because I don't know my own size. I dont get it, 70lbs is a perfect size lap dog! Most importantly, I need a forever family to hold my big, squishy face and get lots of kisses. I sure hope I can find you guys soon. XOXO Vinnie
