Story
Jango is a beautiful example of your classic bully. He is loving, smart, energetic, loyal and so handsome. Our sweet boy has lived the majority of his life in the shelter and done incredibly well. This truly speaks to the resilience of his breed. He will need a family that understands this and can help him learn to be the best boy! Jango is a strong guy but often doesn't know his own strength (classic bully breed characteristics) so we suggest he go to a home with older children. If you are looking for a friend to go on walks and then spend time cuddling, this is your guy! Jango's potential knows no bounds. If you are interested in meeting Jango we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an application. The adoption fee is $250.00, which includes neuter, microchip, flea treatment, deworming and vaccinations. All adoptions are done by appointment only, with an approved application on file. We truly appreciate your interest in helping a dog in need. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgDecember 19, 2024, 5:34 am

Story
Gertrude came to the shelter as a stray so we don't really have much background information on her. We have found that during here stay here at the shelter she is a very sweet girl. She loves to go on walks and likes to play with her toys. She is dog social and loves to play with the younger dogs. She does not realize her size. A meet and greet with the other dog will be part of the requirment for her to go home with another dog. Her obedience training is going well, and basic manners always need to be worked on. She will require that she goes to a home with a fenced yard. We feel that she is roughly about 1.5 old and weighs in at 53lbs. Gerty has spent sometime in a foster home and the reports have came back that she is a pretty busy girl. If she is left to her own devices she will keep her self busy and that always isn't always in a good way. We would highly suggest that she go to a home with another dog. She is going to need a job and someone who is going to keep her mind busy. If you are interested in meeting her we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an adoption application. Her adoption fee is $250.00 that includes her being spayed and current on all her vaccinations. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgDecember 19, 2024, 5:34 am

Story
As circumstances in his family’s life had changed, Brother finds himself looking for a new home. At 6.5 years old this sweet guy is a delight. He knows how to sit, stay, lay down, leave it, touch and what potty means. True to his breed he is friendly, loyal, and affectionate with an energetic yet gentle disposition. He is very intelligent, easy to train and seems to enjoy learning new things. He enjoys his dog bed and is also crate trained. However, Brother loves and prefers to hang out on the couch/lazy boy recliner on your lap or next to you then in his crate. If you have a blanket for him to struggle up under, he is especially happy. He also enjoys your bed. He wants to be with you and will follow you about the home. He loves to go for car rides and is a great hiking buddy. Due to his breed he loves to chase cats, but he doesn't hurt them, and he will walk away if a cat challenges him. He needs a lot of walks and exercise; a fully fenced yard is a necessity. He loves to run and play chase. He plays well with other dogs however he is medium size at about 45 lbs and will need to be watched if he is playing with bigger stronger dogs that could hurt him. He is food motivated, likes strong chew toys but will tear apart soft dog toys. Because he is a bird dog, he isn't great with chickens or any small animals, as he wants to hunt, who can blame him this is what German Shorthaired Pointers were bred to do. He doesn't jump up or lick and best of all he loves kids. This guy will make a great addition to the family that understands the energy level of German Short Hair Pointers and who are willing to accept him for who he is.If you are interested in meeting him, please don't hesitate to email adoption@columbiahumane.org to obtain an adoption application. Once you have an approved application on file, we will then schedule a time for you to come and meet him. His adoption fee is $250.00, that includes him being current on all his vaccines, microchipped, treated for fleas and treated for worms. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgNovember 23, 2024, 6:12 am

Story
What Beck lacks for in ability he makes up for with his heart. This guy is an absolute love. He wants to be with his people and wants nothing more than to please. He does not have a lot of experience at life. Having been found as a stray, you can kind of tell that his interactions with people and learning have been few and far between. He wants to learn very badly and is very capable, he just needs someone who is committed to teaching him to become the best dog that he can become. He does great with other dogs, we would highly suggest putting him in a home with an older female that can teach him the difference between right and wrong and show him the ropes of living with a family. We are still on the fence with him with cats, as we have not been able to get a good test in with him.  If you are interested in meeting Beck we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an adoption application. Once you have an approved application on file we will then schedule a time for you to come and meet him. November 6, 2024, 5:41 am

Story
So what can you say about Beck, well he is very loveable, he is very loyal, and he is very smart, he is eager to learn and to please. He has energy to last him for days and will be sure to bring a smile to your face. This guy is roughly a year old, and weighs in right around 65lbs. He was brought in as a stray so we don’t really have much information about him. We believe he was pretty much left on his own to problem solve and to make his own fun. He does get worried at times that you might be rough with him. He does ok with other dogs, we would like to see him in a home with a female dog that is a little older that can keep him at task and show him the ropes. He is very food motivated which makes his training that much easier, he is excited to engage with people and he wants to learn. Due to his size and him being unaware that he is the size he is, if he goes into a home with kids, it needs to be with kids that are a little older. He is working on learning so many different things and he is very fun to interact with. If you would like to meet him we ask that you please email adoption@columbiahumane.org in order to obtain an application. Once we have an approved application on file, we will then schedule at time for you to come and meet him. His adoption fee is $150.00 that includes him being current on his vaccinations, microchipped, treated for fleas and treated for worms. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email adoption@columbiahumane.orgNovember 16, 2024, 6:40 am

Story
THIS IS A COURTESY POST. THESE DOGS ARE NOT AT THE SHELTER Meet Luna (girl) and Frankie (boy) Luna is the yellow lab and Frakie is the red retriever. Luna is Frankie's aunt and they are both Lab/Retriever mixes. They came to th home in 2019 as puppies with Luna being 6 months older than Frankie. They are both altered, up to date on vaccinations. The family recently had their elderly parents move in and they are fall risks. Frankie and Luna don't understand the best way to stay out of the way. Frankie and Luna for the most part are outside dogs. They are very friendly and affectionate and they like belly rubs the most. The family would prefer they stay together, they do excellent with kids, and other dogs, but don't have much experience with cats, but they do love to chase small animals such as squirrels.  If you are interested in meeting these guys please drop us an email at adoption@columbiahumane.org and we can put you in touch with their owner.                November 15, 2024, 5:32 am
